joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

The sound of rolling waves with the sea breeze billowing through layered hair that the moonlight had painted a jade color reminded Emi of her times on her sailboat with the favorable, yet unpredictable wind in its sails. It was relaxing to her, freeing. It made her think about Theo, wondering where that adventurous pirate would be right about now. Did he finally get to the place he was searching for? Much like the wind, the unpredictable Emi was full of mixed emotions; the kind that was beyond excited to have met up with Pomme and her adopted "cousin," Alfie together after so much time apart, while a small part of her dreaded for them asking any questions she didn't want to answer. This was partly why Emi would always end up meandering back to Wesley's side after interacting with Alfie, Pomme, and his beautiful friend, Jenevieve, whom they’ve officially been introduced to on the boat ride to the island. Plus, truth be told, Wesley was comfortable to stick around with, which was probably not a common thing to consider of an undercover mafia boss. Maybe a part of her wanted him to feel included; or maybe it was because he was so handsome in the outfit he was wearing, she couldn't help herself.

“Once a year, in the summer, we celebrate the moondance festival out here on the many shorelines in Vyldermire.. but this place has the best food and the best drinks!”  Emi winked at Wesley, inferring that she would know, given that she tried to sneak in here before. A reminiscent smirk tilted on one side of her lips as she recalled how she would try to pass herself as someone who worked in the food industry that laid out the buffet of seafood just to steal the good stuff before taking off. She never really got to stay long to celebrate this festival in Avalon Islands, so this would be her first time celebrating it at the island fully.

“Hey....Has anyone told you about the story behind the Moondance?” The petite thief asked with a curious tilt of her head, a smile of wonder forming on her lips as to whether anyone explained all this stuff to any of the otherworlders she’d met so far, especially this particular otherworlder who tended to be busy a lot. With a shrug, she decided to explain anyways whilst pulling out all the beach supplies, ranging from long and large to small yet numerous, that they had previously packed from the pocket dimension in the fanny pack that Wesley carried around his waist. She always liked telling a good story.

“Long ago, people used to think the moon causing the receding tides was a punishment from the gods..” Emi began the story she was taught in school, not knowing Jen had anything to do with the moon. “So, they performed a ceremony to give thanks to the moon.. you know, hoping that would appease the gods to have the tide return to them and all that..” She smiled at Wesley, wondering if he found the explanation silly in comparison to whatever he believed back in his world. “Now it’s more of a festival, where we go out to the shorelines in only our swimwear, paint ourselves with moons and other symbols, eat gourmet seafood, and then dance the night away!”

“Then, there’s a moment.." The petite girl in the blue and white bikini paused from organizing all the beach things, her large jeweled green orbs stared out into the darkening sky. “Suddenly, the night practically glitters with lanterns that people lit up and released into the sky..and with the colorful lanterns already hung up along the shoreline, it just lights up these sands with so many colors, almost like we’re on a rainbow..it’s really pretty!” She turned to Wesley again with a sweet smile. “It’s a lot more fun than what the Gaiyans are doing anyway,” She leaned closer and whispered her joke at the Gaiyan’s expense with a soft giggle, wondering if he’d ask what it was that the Gaiyans do. “By the way, thanks for inviting all of us, Wes.." Kissing his cheek tenderly, her bright, appreciative smile reached her eyes before skipping towards the smell of the food.  "Mmm..The food smells so great from here, doesn't it?!" Emi commented with a grin and glimpsed over at Alfie's muscular abs then down at her own body. The few abs that popped out from the soft fat of her abdomen that were exposed by her bikini, attained from training with Daiko, would probably be gone by the end of the night. Oh well!

"Heeheeheehee!" A  mischievous thought caused the comedic mage to giggle as she turned with a bright grin to tell a teasing joke to Kiigan, and her smile suddenly faltered when she remembered that he wasn't with them. A sigh escaped her lips as that smoked salmon joke died in her head. "Where -? Is Kiigan still working?" Emi questioned Wesley with a raise of an eyebrow, deciding not to ask where Kiigan would be in case he was doing a special job that couldn't be discussed in front of the rest of the group. "When is he coming back?" She asked in a low murmur and a bored sigh, before brightening up again as she skipped over to the rest of the group. “So, what should we do first? I bet Alfie wants to go straight for the water, huh?” She nudged the strong Alfalfa with her elbow, recalling how much she loved the water. All the while, the impish girl's eyes trailed along the beach items laid out, wondering what she could use for a fun prank in efforts to compensate for the lack of Kiigan being present.

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
It’d always been a weird experience hanging with people that knew each other well, more so a family. In a way, it made him feel like the odd one out for not having anyone related come along… not that it was possible for him. But that was okay. That was normal by now. Perhaps he would’ve been more discouraged by it all if he hadn’t somehow found himself naturally gravitating to Emi’s side. Maybe it’d been a subconscious need to cling to someone familiar. Maybe it’d been the peculiar way she also stuck to him as well. He didn’t question it, not having noticed the strange draw, and talked and joked and introduced himself to the rest like nothing were ever wrong. The boat ride, thankfully, had been short.

Now, the music enthralled him, the vibrations further driving away any ill feelings for the night. They might’ve not been the usual jazzier-than-life tunes he was used to, but he’d be lying if he didn’t think they were upbeat and fun. It had him shifting anxiously in his sandals, trying his best to not give in to the rhythm too soon. He adored dancing. Even if he was out of his element he could practically twist and jive all night long without a need to stop. And so out of his element was he that anything that vaguely screamed Wesley Savaglio had been done away with: no suit, no fancy shoes, no gloves, nothing. He looked like any other attendee in his unzipped red hoodie and white swim trunks, leaving only the leather choker as a remainder of his usual self and even that was accompanied by a simple necklace.

“No, can’t say anyone has…” Wes trailed off at Emi’s question, paying more attention to the dancing throngs and the ever-shifting palette of colors in the sands, the novelty of it all practically keeping him glued while Emi worked away at his fanny pack. He’d never had the time to attend things like these. He never gave himself the time, either. It’d always been business one way or another with him, so it was nice when the greenette decided to clue him in on what all the hubbub was about. All he’d ever heard were a few drunken misadventures from his members, after all. He’d never been one to pry too much into their personal lives.

A faint smile started to creep up on him when she leaned in. If his shoulders twitching up meant anything, he’d probably suppressed a laugh. Jokes at the expense of others were always a welcome source of humor for him. The expression died, however, when he felt a peck on his cheek, eyes widening slightly. “Uh,” the redhead blinked over to her, a little surprised by the affection. “...Right. Don’t mention it.” Maybe he’d been a little stunned by the unexpectedness of it that the words came out muttered, and he stood there watching as she skipped off happily.

Why was she being cute?

Despite a growing suspicion that she might be up to something, Wes bounded after the minty-haired woman like he’d been doing for most of the trip. It’d made him a little embarrassed—genuine acts of gratitude being something he wasn’t outright used to—so he tried to hide it by lightly scratching at his cheek as he walked. An unintelligible grumble left him: something about her trying to throw him off. He really never knew when it came to the trickster.

Wes’s mind went back to Kiigan at her inquiry, “Big guy will drop by soon. Don’t worry too much about it,” he lightly pinched the side of her belly, offering her a reassuring smile. Maybe he should’ve felt a little bad at having found the Gaiyan joke from earlier funny… Naw, it was funny. He didn’t know what the blueberry was doing for his own celebration, but he respected the guy enough to let him do his own thing. It’s not like he’d keep him back from doing, well, whatever it was angels did. Probably pray or something. Judging by Emi’s laugh, though, Kiigan should pray all he could. Now, if he could only hurry up...

“Right! Or…” Wes cut in a little too quickly when the subject of water was brought up, clasping his hands together in a happy little clap to address the whole group and stave off the dreaded ocean. “We could go grab a bite, or dance, or have a niiice an’ relaxin’ stroll.” He eyed Aubrey, giving the other redhead a sneaky wink at the final suggestion. He’d told the flamboyant man to bring a date, and was surprised when he’d come by with the same lady from the Singles’ Night and a cousin. Jen could be just a friend for all he cared, but his word had been specific and there was no taking that back. “No need to hold back, really,” he beamed at them, only for his attention to slowly be dragged back to the dancing crowds.

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } HXiO28c

Jenevieve listened idly as Emi, who she had been officially introduced to earlier along with Wes and Alfie, explained to Wes about the celebrations they were en route to attend. She’d met the two briefly before at the singles night in Engloria but didn’t get a chance to get to know them. They’d been rather preoccupied that night, and Jen couldn’t help but be reminded of that when she looked at the two. To distract herself from those thoughts, and to keep her focus, the Gaiyan gazed out at the gorgeous beach around them. She’d never been to the Avalon Islands before, but she was enjoying the tropical location already. The golden yellow swimsuit she wore was unusual for her wardrobe, but she was finding it to be comfortable.

Emi’s explanation of the human celebrations intrigued her. Though there were some similarities, it was so different from what the Gaiyans believed. The humans saw the tide receding as a curse, a punishment. They believed celebrating on the beaches would appease the gods and bring the tide back. Gaiyans saw it as a time of healing and renewal, a chance to reconnect with the earth and promote growth. Jen had only ever participated in the Gaiyan rituals at this time of year. This was her first time away from the temple she called home, and it was the perfect opportunity to partake in different celebrations than she was used to.

Jen absentmindedly played with the purple ribbon tied around her wrist. It was leftover from her attendance of the Lunar Cleansing earlier in the day. The moonlet had gathered with other Gaiyans and laid in the plains with ribbons connecting them by wrist. The plants had flourished around them and grown over them as they reconnected with the world and ascended to the spirit plane.

It hadn’t taken her long to meet up with her sisters in the astral world. They had manifested from their home at the temple in Ilyanor, but the connection to the land allowed the women to gather as one. She’d rejoiced their reunion, hurriedly telling them of her adventures so far since leaving home. Patricia’s grim expression had stopped her tangent. It was then she realized that her youngest sister, Helena, was nowhere to be seen. The three eldest told her that Helena had taken off in the middle of the night after being denied the chance to leave the temple like Jen had. The shock of this news had shaken the moonlet right out of her trance.

Jen’s focus returned to her companions as Wes listed off several suggestions of what they could do. Any of them sounded like fun, though she wouldn’t mind the relaxing stroll option. What she would keep to herself was that she was actively and continuously using magic at the moment. That, combined with the stress of the news about Helena left her exhausted, and unbeknownst to her, it showed.

“Which would you prefer?” she asked Aubrey, looking up to the redhead with as cheerful of a smile as ever. The moonlet pulled her braid over her shoulder, the thick black strands woven in with the flowers that had grown over her body during the Lunar Cleansing. She’d braided it on the way to Lyndon Port to calm herself and prepare for the adventure on the beach that she’d been invited to.

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Abby

TAKE ME TO WONDERLAND----

He traveled from Rivengate to Avalon harboring a secret guilt. Aubrey, concerned with expenses and pretending to be a financially stable presence, was especially good at concealing the crease that should have been on his brow from the very beginning. He thought back to how he was going to pay the generous baker for his kind invitation.

He would rack up yet another debt but never one he would leave unaddressed for too long a time. He would always pay it off, but under extreme circumstances by working harder than usual. He was made to feel so tense by this that the timbre of his greeting would have sounded rather pleasant had it not been so shrill undertones of it.

“Guess who?” the natural entertainer announced, an imaginary spotlight befalling his angelic silhouette.

Looking more like a Raggedy-Anne doll than an actual angel with outstretched arms, he gave an unnecessary twirl and paused to put a hand over his heart. The flamboyant peacock was beginning to expand his figurative tail feathers, quite ready to expose his overwhelming colors and natural sheen.

Despite this show of admirable confidence he was sorely anxious. He was also confusingly cheerful which was how he could play into the pleasant facade easier.

Aubrey, with his eyes of piercing diamond blue, sought for a formidable distraction. They expressed excitement, too much of it and his smile seemed to have endured much  under the crippling cognizance of having to burn the midnight oil once this enchanting night was over.

To say a brightside did not exist here would have been an awful lie. He could see it in the way the green-haired teddy bear of a woman educated his enemy turned friend, done so through very peculiar circumstances, the meaning behind such a special day.

Was he not familiar with their customs?

To the crimson-haired man, it was common knowledge, and so he reflected lightly with renewed understanding. He could have been a misinformed Eldritch or a mysterious Otherworlder.

The first assumption, Wesley being an Eldritch, would have inspired apprehension to fester and boil inside the boy, but Aubrey could not bring himself to doubt his good intentions. In fact, he refused to abandon him when he was at the mercy of a bunch of lowly street muggers. Wesley could have used his foolish bravery to his advantage just to flee unscathed and leave Aubrey to die the rabbit-hearted fool in his place.

He checked his teeth in passing.

Not a famished vampire.

He sniffed the air about him for a moment. Discreetly.

He did not smell like a pit filled to the brim with the blood of human children crying out for their parents. This might not have been an accurate portrayal of any kind of ritual performed by one; yet Aubrey was inclined to unfairly demonize them with some of the most dishonorable fabrications.

Emi seemed to whisper what he thought were sweet nothings to Wesley. Aubrey tip-toed stealthily, gleefully to listen in on this intimate exchange. Such a nosy boy! He fluttered his eyelashes, ready to catch the juicy deets and give them the pair the teasing of a lifetime. It was a far cry from what he imagined she would say and the ‘tee-hee’ in his smile disappeared.

“Emi,” he gasped, somewhat scandalized, “it just isn’t good manners to compare two very different walks of life like that. Don’t we have them to thank for ending only the most horrifying bloodbath in history? Tsk, tsk, tsk. Naughty girl!”

He pinched her cheek and gave it a playful tug.

There was hypocrisy in that noble-sounding accusation pouring from his lips, for he would have said the same in kind for the myriad of species under the Eldritch umbrella. What he was displaying was typical human behavior.  What wasn’t so typical was the topic shift, though it stirred no suspicion to arise in the mischievous tailor as every activity brought him excitement. So many to choose from!

The wink that was tossed his way didn’t go unnoticed. Aubrey readily responded with a wink of his own as he moved closer to Wes. He leaned into him, no sign of intimidation, only platonic affection, as he whispered as quietly as he could for his sake. He wrapped an arm around him. “Are you an otherworlder, Wes?” he asked, gently pressing a finger to the tip of his nose. A curious boop for a very curious friend.

He was suddenly quite protective.

Before he could give his two cents on the matter, Pomme slipped away from him like some puffy-dressed, glitter-bombed princess. Aubrey was a human mood ring that ranged from seemingly cheerful to unbearably excitable.

Where he was headed led him to a queen fresh out of a fairytale with hair like midnight, flowers that seemed to glow like stars over a canvas of the darkest cobalt sky.

Prudery and shyness were never in his vocabulary. Plenty of warm embraces, kisses on the cheek, and sweet flatteries to pump up the ego. What he would have ordinarily done to greet others didn’t seem to apply as customarily as he would have liked when it came to Jenevieve. By now, he would have gingerly brought her hair closer to his face for a better look at the flora and fauna. But an invisible force would not permit him to be so invasive, and that perhaps had something to do with just how angelic she looked tonight.

It was as though they hadn’t ever locked arms and bumped furious booty together.

No, it wasn’t shyness.

It was a concern that humbled the playful, rambunctious fellow. There was an offness in all that radiance, like the graying wings of an angel, that he found rather hard to ignore. He might have looked obnoxious to the eye wearing a blue Hawaiian shirt and red swim trunks to boot, but his expression was soft despite the very loud colors he wore. “I look forward to seeing what you decide,” he said sweetly, not wanting to run the risk of choosing an activity that would do her more harm than good. She looked quite fatigued. “It hadn’t dawned on me ‘til now just how much you've been fidgeting with that purple ribbon of yours. Is everything all right?”

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

It had been 5 years since Emi had really spent time with Pomme in a fun activity like this, and she had almost forgotten how well he knew her enough to pry into the whispered joke about the Gaiyan festival. It was kind of nice in that familiar sort of way. Eh, jokes at other's expense were still funny, at least to her. Besides, Pomme wasn't one to talk for someone who disliked vampires. "Hmph! You're one to - ah-hah! Hey!" She winced with a grimacing grin upon feeling the pinch at her cheeks that Pomme had given her playfully.  Her adopted brother's embrace afterwards always felt like the warmth of home; where so many hugs felt close to giving her that sense of belonging, this one hit in just the right spot for her to bask in it just a few seconds longer, to hug just a little tighter. He was the home sweet home she secretly missed; a home the stubborn girl knew that she could never go back to. Not anymore; not when she was gonna be successful and have her own place just like Pomme! The fierce determination of trying to be successful as Pomme all on her own was almost like there was a fire in her butt.

“Big guy will drop by soon. Don’t worry too much about it,”

There was a knowing glint in the emerald eyes of Emi Kazama when Wesley had reassured her about Kiigan's whereabouts in the vaguest way possible, as was the usual with Wesley sometimes. Just by his comment alone, she could guess that Wesley knew where Kiigan was, and he knew what Kiigan was doing, too; he just wouldn't tell her, not even when he was coming back. With a tiny crinkle of her nose in mock disdain for not knowing further details than that, she tossed him a smirk as he pinched the side of her belly, causing her to giggle an "Okay!" Emi knew better not to ask any further questions. Not that Wesley had taught her that, it was just a mentality she seemed to have already picked up on her own. That's fine. He had his secrets and she had hers. Nothing wrong with that, as far as she was concerned. She can work with what information she was given.

In other words: Get pranked.

Unfortunately, the mischievous thief had a vengeful nature that tended to manifest in the form of pranks. She was already keeping her eyes peeled for anything she could use by looking around at the items they took out, when she caught the end of Wesley's other suggestions. She glanced at Pomme and Jenevieve upon hearing their answers to the suggestions, cocking an eyebrow at Pomme. Huh..Why was he acting so weird? He was usually so unabashedly expressive with his warm mannerisms to everyone he considered a friend, even previous girls he liked. Why was he treating Jenevieve so different?

While everyone was being so courteous and thoughtful of what the other person wanted, Emi didn't seem to get with the program. "Nah, I'm not walking," remarked the decisive and opinionated streetrat as she crossed her arms underneath her supple white and blue bikini top, shrugging indifferently as to whether they all wanted to do things as a group. "I just got here! You guys go ahead, I'm grabbing a bite to eat!" Emi smiled reassuringly and waved them off to go on ahead and walk without her. If anyone knew her well enough, they wouldn't argue with it either, especially not when it came to food. The stubborn girl wasn't walking and that was that; maybe she'll stroll later, but right now she going to eat. Stealing food wasn't always hot or warm, so she might as well take advantage of hot meals while she could. Perhaps a small percentage didn't mind waiting for Kiigan to show up either, at least so that he wouldn't show up alone with everyone gone to their stroll.

Since Kiigan wasn't here though, it was time to unleash her prank on Wesley, and she knew just how to do it. While Pomme was chatting with Wesley, Emi surreptitiously held a finger to her lips in case Pomme or Jen were to notice her, then crept along the sand towards the moondance paints that had been pulled out earlier. With just a touch of white paint that she smeared on her elbow, she quickly paced towards Wesley and Pomme with an expression of shock and feigned anger. "Oh SHIT! Wesley! Why didn't you tell me my elbow had bird poop from your ship?! Eugh..LOOK at this!" In an instant, she took some of the white paint and boldly tried to smear it on Wesley's face within a swift, fluid movement, hoping to at least get some on him even if he moved. "PFFT! TALK ABOUT GETTING SHIT FACED! AHAHAHA!" With that adrenaline rush, Emi ran away in hopes that Wesley would catch her, though she quickly regretted such an action when she realized she was not wearing the right kind of support for running. Stupid! Stupid! She couldn't run with the lack of support of a bikini top! While one hand wrapped around her chest, Emi was reduced to running in zig zag formation, before pulling from her bikini bra a 2-D portable hole that she dropped onto the sand to hop in and teleport to another area. With any hope, Emi could continue doing this until Wesley would just give up. Maybe.

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
Wes smiled brightly when the sparklier-than-life Aubrey approached, a genuine happy glint making its way into already vibrant blue eyes. Likewise, there’d been no sign of mocking or annoyance, having fully set aside the unanticipated exchange at the Singles’. The spritely man had won the young don’s favor when he stepped out of the shadows of an alley like some kinda birthday surprise where the celebration was the gift of kicking ass. As outnumbered as he had been, anyone would’ve thought twice of jumping into the fray. Yet he had been brave and practically saved his life as far Wes was concerned—an action that wouldn’t be soon forgotten, if ever.

The similarity of Aubrey and his sister amused him a good bit. So much whispering over some pretty silly stuff. The question and boop prompted a gasp from Wes, his hand coming to rest at his chest in fake shock. “Noooo…!” he breathed out; the tone remained as sarcastic as could be. However, whatever derision was held at the expense of the man’s intellect was accompanied with a lighthearted smile as Wes spoke, quite clearly, without really caring for anyone listening in. “And here I was thinkin’ keeping things on the hush-hush was my strong point. Quiiite perceptive of ya, Aubs,” he wagged a finger at him as though saying ‘ooo you really got me’ with squinty eyes. “Maybe you’re a lot sneakier than I thought!”

He turned to his pretty companion then, those same playful airs still permeating his small figure. He placed a hand on his hip, leaning forward towards Jen with his other hand keeping his lips hidden from the lurid quing besides her. “Honestly, I’d watch out for this lug if I were you. One day you’re thinking he’s one way, the next you’re seeing a whole ‘nother side. Reeeaaal surprising, this guy—not in a bad way, of course. Man’s gotten me outta quite the pinch…!” At some point he’d gone akimbo again, not caring to put on the little show of barring Pom from the conversation. He hadn’t kept his voice down at all, acting very much the proud, nodding friend.

Maybe mentioning their tussle from a while back could inspire some more conversation among the two who Wes was already declaring lovebirds; possibly spike some interest later down the line. But as he observed Jenevieve it was clear to him that she seemed somewhat tired. Wes didn’t say anything, only offering a slight tilt of his head and a raised brow (though he was still all smiles) at her disposition. Concern wouldn’t come easily to one who often placed more value on what people do for him, especially not when it came to strangers.

Still, it didn’t mean he couldn’t fake it.

Not a word for Jen managed to escape his mouth when from behind him came a loud whine. “What!?” he barely had any time to react when he felt a finger jabbing along his cheek and the subsequent, kinda cold smear. “OH, WHAT THE FU—” His hands quickly made work of his face, grabbing the hem of the red hoodie, and wiping away like mad. It was fine that his clothes got stained, he could always burn it later. But as he finished his frantic wiping did his nose catch a small whiff.

This wasn’t bird shit.

This was paint.

Suddenly, he was quite flustered.

“Emi…” he whispered, watching the minty-haired run like a fire had been set on her ass. Which, it might as well have been, considering his red face and deadlocked expression. “Listen,” he addressed Aubrey one last time. “Your sister—still a charmer, don’t get me wrong. But, sometimes, don’t you just wanna…” Wes placed his hands before him and laced his fingers together as though around a neck, before shaking them in a choking motion. By the grit of teeth and slightly psychotic expression that bordered on goofy, it was clear he was joking. Well… partially.

“Now…” Taking a deep stabilizing breath, he cooly ran a hand through his coppery bangs not caring for the faint smudge on his face. “If you two lovely people would excuse me…” he turned on his heel, completely poised to run, before dashing off after his offender.

In seconds Wes was already gaining on her, though slowed by the shifting ground beneath his feet, he was beelining, zigzagging, sand-kicking his way towards the laughing woman. And it wasn’t until he was just a few mere feet from her that he’d decided that going for a tackle wouldn’t be too bad of an idea.

Except it was.

It’d happened in the blink of an eye. One moment he was sailing through the air ready to take her down and the next he was face-first on the sandy floor. The look of confusion that ran by him while he laid on the ground could be evident by anyone as the redhead processed what had just happened. He blinked down, rolled on his side… and saw a hole underneath him.

“Are you KIDDIN’ me!?” he exclaimed, quickly and thoughtlessly scrambling onto his knees and staring dagger down the cartoonish magic. This again!? For all accounts and purposes this was cheating. And Wes did not like cheating unless he was the one doing it. “Argh!” He stuck his head in out of frustration, looking very much like an ostrich with its head in the ground and his bum in the air. “There is not a SAINT in the SKY that can HELP you tonight, YA HEAR!?” he yelled out into the deep expanse of darkness that accompanied the magical port-o-hole and took a few seconds to blink around in search of Emi.

She really knew how to ignite him sometimes.

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

Fuck! Fuckity Fuck! This was one of those times where Emi really wished she had thought things through instead of being so impulsive. Why couldn't she have done this some other time, when perhaps she was wearing something with a little more support? Alright, a lot more support. Still, she could handle this. She could always roll with the punches and this shouldn't be any different. These inner concerns of course were masked by a Cheshire grin that spread along the greenette's lips upon hearing Wesley yell, almost biting her lower lips as if to contain her laughter that sent her shoulders trembling at the inner laughter. She sure loved hearing the way he talked.

Emi, of course, popped up in a hole in the sand that appeared behind the copper-haired ostrich when she boldly and impulsively gave that appealing butt of his an eager pinch. In a swift motion, she pulled out her paintbrush through her cleavage from the pocket dimension of her bikini top and splattered his body with a sideways brush of white paint. It was only after disappearing through the hole and then reappearing further away to see his expression on his face when she noticed some of the sand by his chin from when he fell earlier. "Pffft! If you like sand that much, you should try sandwiches! Pahahaha!" Emi joked at his expense with a loud, jovial laugh before tossing the white paintbrush at his body again and popping back into the hole once more.

Unfortunately, that meant the minty haired thief was out of paint. After popping up in random places a few more times, Emi decided to appear closer by the paint in efforts to get more paint. This sadly required her to be fully out of the hole as they unfortunately were on top of the picnic table. Once she pulled herself out of the hole, Emi hurriedly tried to grab a green paint bucket from on top of the picnic table while her green eyes peered around for any sign of Wesley, hoping she had time to pull out another portable hole from her pocket dimension to toss in the sand for her to jump back to safety.

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
His voice fell flat and echoless in the darkness. Though he curiously scanned the perimeter, there wasn’t much Wes could make out except a deep dark rabbit hole of nothing. It kinda gave him the heebie jeebies the longer he stared. Sorta felt like it could swallow him up just as easy as it swallowed the little rays of moonlight creeping in. “Yeesh…” he muttered. That’s a terrifying thought.

Since it was impossible to find the tiny prankster without some sort of dark vision, he started to pull back and out of the ground. Having lost her placed the slightest damper on the playfully angry rush she had incited. But like lightning striking twice, it all came back in mere seconds.

He hitched a breath. “Ahi…! EY!” The unprecedented pinch jolted him to further attention; his body sprung, and he bonked himself unceremoniously against the hole’s border before falling back onto his rear. “Emi, ma che cazzo!?” he yelled, eyes crinkling and lips forming a light scowl more out of embarrassment than annoyance. Gingerly, he rubbed his pained head. “You… you’re dead when I get my hands on you. Nessuno tocca la merce!” The warning might’ve fallen on deaf ears though, when from his side yet another splatter painted his hoodie and the exposed part of his chest.

…And what did he just say?

Dead. She was dead. She was so dead.

Rushing to a stand, the short redhead dashed after his giggling target once more. Narrowly missing the paintbrush, its bristles brushed against his calf. He continued to run and grab at Emi in what was turning into a weirdy game of paint whack-a-mole, flinging his body this way and that before cursing, hammering a fist at the ground, and going after the annoyingly green mole again. The little speed demon that was Wes was facing a huge losing streak it seemed like. That is…until she made the mistake of replenishing her stocks.

“Ah, nononono…! Don’t even think ‘bout it!” She’d been to slow to jump back into one her stupid holes. From behind her he came to a racing stop, his knees buckled for momentum and his arms wrapped around her soft waist. “Don’t,” he started, pulling her body close and lifting her. “Even.” Though he moved her away from it, he tried reaching for the table himself. “Think— woah, hey—!”

He only meant to lift and twirl her away from the paint can, but gravity had other ideas. Clearly not helped by trying to grab at the tube, momentum worked against him and his stupid choice and he came tumbling down on his side with Emi in tow. Shit, that was going a lot better in his mind. Still, with everything that had just transpired, as annoying as it was, he couldn’t help but think it fun. A chuckle—lighthearted and boyish all at once—escaped him, and he laughed shyly into the back of his hand. This whole thing was pretty funny, wasn’t it? Really silly. It’d been a while since he’d done something like this that, somehow, it felt a little relieving… even if he still did kinda want to choke out the woman next to him. Pfft.

Shifting, he propped himself on his elbow, face resting on his palm to lean over Emi. His lips parted slightly as he leaned in, though it might’ve seemed like a tease, really, he was just going to ask if she was okay. Yet whatever softness his eyes held in that moment vanished when a hard lump between the two made him blink down in surprise.

“Ha!” he exclaimed out of nowhere and pulled out an orange-colored tube from between them. So he had managed to grab paint after all! Not too shabby there, Wessie. Not too shabby. He practically sparkled with mischief. “Ahaha…” laughing darkly, his voice dropped playfully low into her ear. “now you’re gettin’ it.”

“You see…” he continued. In moments the redhead was on her, straddling the minty-haired thief underneath him to keep her from running off any more than she already had. “you’ve committed a sin against this Savaglio by daring to paint him,” a hand placed at his chest in fake indignation and waving the tube around nonchalantly in his hand, he sounded like someone denouncing a criminal of the biggest crime of all. “And now,” pausing for dramatic effect, he smeared paint on his hands, a devilish smirk crossing him as he narrowed his gaze down at her. “tu devi pagare.”

She wasn’t getting out of this alive.

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } HXiO28c

“Oh, I’m quite alright,” Jen rushed to reassure her worried friend. She slipped her hands behind her back, putting the ribbon out of sight. As convincing of a smile as she could muster was directed at Aubrey. It would be a waste for him to focus his concerns on her. The moonlet didn’t want to trouble her companions on this festal day.

As the banter among the group continued, Wes had leaned in close and gave her a ‘warning’ about Aubrey. Playing along, Jen whispered back. “I’ve got eyes in the back of my head. He won’t get away with anything!” she teased, hiding a grin behind her hand. She knew firsthand how much of a kind and helpful gentleman Aubrey was, though he could be a bit whimsical in his deliverance of such grace.

She didn’t have time to dismiss Wes’ concerned look before he and Emi got into a playful scuffle that involved paint and a comical chase around in the sand. Jen couldn’t help but let out a giggle as she watched the two race around the beach. It was easy to see the similarities between Aubrey and Emi, and she got the feeling she would get along with the minty-haired prankster well.

Several people around them on the beach began gasping. Jen's blue eyes followed their pointed fingers to the sky. In the inky black night , the moon had been spreading silvery light across the land for a while, illuminating the celebrations around the continent. But now, cresting the horizon in silvery elegance, was another moon. It was slightly less bright than Selene's majestic countenance, its purpose to complement the goddess’ heavenly body but not overshadow her. Jen's hand flew to her mouth and her heartbeat fluttered. Her elder sisters had warned her that when one of the five Moon Guardian sisters celebrated the Lunar Cleansing outside the temple, it caused a second moon to appear in the sky. She had expected that the magic she was casting on herself to suppress her true form would also cancel out the double moon phenomenon. The Lunar Cleansing had forced her into the form she took inside the moon temple. It made sense in her mind when crafting the suppression spell earlier, but it seemed the second moon would appear no matter her efforts. Such were the mystical and unpredictable ways of the magical world.

In her shock, Jen’s magic wavered for a moment. The air shimmered around her and for less than a blink, she appeared to have glowing white hair and ceremonial robes instead of her bikini. The moonlet wrangled back her control of the magic, taking a few deep breaths to regain focus and to calm herself. Nobody here knew that the double moon was her doing. At least, that’s what she kept repeating in her head.

“Er… why don’t we go get something to eat?” she asked Aubrey, touching his arm gently. Assuming that he was looking at the rising second moon like most others were, Jen felt a sudden, sharp wave of shyness. It was like everyone was staring at a vulnerable piece of her, leaving the moon guardian to feel frantically bashful. Perhaps something to eat or drink would soothe her agitated manner.

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

That cute noise that the mob boss yelped out upon giving his butt a pinch sent a series of giggles from Emi’s mischievous smiling lips that she tried to muffle with a hand. It was a dangerously bold move, given what she knew what Wesley was capable of. The funny joke in all this was, no one else on the beach currently knew that Wesley was dangerous, or much less knew just how ruthless he can be. Unbeknownst to the others here, Wesley could metamorphose from the playful baker into a cutthroat competitor in the mafia; in a swift second, he would become a fierce man that would never draw a breath of hesitation to spill blood at the sight of something he wanted. It was only several months ago when he had given her a death threat, after all; that was how she ended up joining the mafia to pay him back for the drugs she had unknowingly stolen. Nonetheless, the former circus clown still relished in the adrenaline rush of teasing and slipping away from such a powerful man. It just made the game of risk more fun.

“Emi, ma che cazzo!?”

Well, that sounded familiar! How many times had Wesley said that enough for her to grasp the familiarity of those words? She lost count. Draw on his face while he napped? Ma che cazzo! Steal something of his to make him chase her? Ma che cazzo! Pull a prank on him like she did just now? Ma che cazzo! And did she know what it meant by now? Nope! He could be insulting her for all she knew. Considering the circumstances in which he had said it, it probably was an insult. Still, she couldn't help but bite her lower lip at the way that appealing language tingled her eardrums like a familiar song.

Unfortunately, the jade haired thief couldn't carry on with her game of chase any longer. In a fluid motion, Wesley managed to catch her before she could slip away, which certainly caught the slippery thief by surprise. For the one that loved to get away with her humiliating stunts, she wasn't used to finding herself at an impasse. Still, that didn't mean that she didn't have another trick in mind as Wesley turned in step upon grasping her. Would she fall gracefully like a lifeless rag doll would whilst enveloped in Wesley's arms? Hell the fuck no. The vengeful thief opened that paint she grabbed from that table and unleashed her hellish green paint onto them both. Sure, she got paint splashed onto her, but so did Wesley, and that was good enough for her. If she was going down, the chaotic greenette was bringing him down covered in a wave of green paint that washed over the both of them just as they fell onto the sand.

"Ahahaha!" The minty-haired mage burst into laughter complete with a squeak at the end of her laugh as she rolled on her back from the fall, her broad smile across her lips attempting to catch her breath as she reeled from laughter.  Her smiling eyes opened only slightly to peek over at Wesley, who peered over at her from his propped-up position next to her on the sand. A soft breath drew from her lips upon hearing that boyish laugh that escaped him, which he attempted to muffle as if such an adorable, natural laugh was a crime in itself. Although she forced others to smile or laugh, there was nothing like a natural laugh or a natural smile. "Hn.." Emi's admiring smile beamed over at him upon seeing that charming smile curving along his lips before it faded as her emerald eyes caught his lips parting as he leaned closer, causing her to magnetically lean in a little more as well. Emi, too, blinked in surprise upon feeling something hard between them once she leaned closer. Um. Was that-? Emi smiled over at him in bemusement. As it turned out, it was an orange paint tube. Right. Paint. Of course.

With a sheepish smile drawn across her face, Emi tried to edge away as Wesley transformed back to the ruthless mafioso that was dangerously triumphant with the paint tube finally in his grasp. Thin, green eyebrows rose over her emerald eyes as he whispered his desire for revenge into her ear; he even managed to stop her from escaping by straddling on top of her, bearing a devilish smile on his lips. While Wesley began his villainous monologue with such a charming flamboyance that couldn't help but make her smile when she wanted to pout in defeat, a hand reflexively flung to her temple by her eye when he spoke his final words in his Italian again. Casually, she brushed away some of her green strands of hair away from her face as she peered up at him with a defiant glint in her dark green eyes.

"Ah! No!! Myuh! Wait~ Hahahaha! Wait no! That's not fair! Bleh! I think paint went in my mou-! Yuck! Pfftt!! Ha! Gotcha! Pahaha! Ah! You fucker!" The laughing thief struggled to turn her head this way and that in her attempts to avoid Wesley's orange painted hands smearing onto her cheeks and parts of her face. She stopped only once with a crinkle of her nose and a shake of her head while shutting her eyes at the chemical taste of orange paint in her mouth that rubbed on her lips, then attempted to getting him back.

"That's it." Emi's usual high-pitched voice suddenly dipped in a sultry voice as she entered competitive mode, narrowing her eyebrows over her dark green eyes with a grin that revealed her grinding teeth. In an instant, the comedic mage locked one hand to pull him down and bucked her hips towards the right, using the momentum to roll ontop of him. "How about you pagare,”  She leaning forward from her straddled position, copying his own word against him fluently with a devilish smirk before she boldly reached for the fanny pack strapped around the top of his swim shorts. Upon pulling out a red tube and a blue tube from the pocket dimension of the fanny pack, she eyed him with a sly smirk as she held a paint tube in each of her hands like a gun. "Bang. Bang," With that, Emi next squeezed the paint tubes at his chest, then used a hand to smear the red from his abdomen to his muscular chest, sliding along each ridge of his tight muscles beneath.

"Ya know, I think red looks good on..you.." Emi faltered at the end of her bold statement that bordered on playfully menacing as her smirk receded to a curious parting of her lips when her emerald eyes fell on a particular splotch of red on his cheek. Her thin eyebrows knit together with concern as she eyed the particular spot and neared closer to his face, raising her hand with her thumb protruding to gingerly rub the red away, causing it to blend into the whites, greens, and orange streaks on his face until it was no longer red.  The mage's green eyebrows suddenly dipped slightly in confusion, the pensive pout that formed on her lips remained as though she were lost in thought,  almost as if she had expected the red mark to still be there on his cheek for some reason. But why would it be? It's not like it was there before.

Suddenly, a bright light illuminated the ends of Wesley's copper strands as if they were licked by flames, while the oceanic pools that were his eyes glimmered like fireworks in the sky. "Hey Wesley.." Although her tone begged to ask him something, Emi remained wordlessly captivated by how handsome he looked, until she realized that she didn't hear the boom of the fireworks. Upon turning her head to peer at the source of illumination, she realized it was the moon - a second moon, actually. Emi knit her eyebrows together as she stared up at the sky, not being able to recall if the moondance had two moons before. She turned her attention to Wesley again and smiled as she carefully got off of him. "..You're a lot of fun, ya know that?" She added finally, deciding to keep her previous question to herself.

"Hmph. Probably some Gaiyan thing.." Emi shrugged off the weird double moon situation as she eyed it again.  "You could ask one, but they're probably too busy burying themselves and getting plant boners from the moon." To further demonstrate her racist jeer, Emi laid back down on the sand, burying most of her body in the sand and grabbing a piece of seaweed to prop it right by her groin to make it sprout out. "Look, I'm a Gaiyan! Pahahahaha!" Emi laughed aloud at her joke at Gaiyan's expense; never to realize that there would be Gaiyans out here to listen to such a crude joke, far closer than she realized.

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Fri Jan 21, 2022 2:33 pm

It was quiet off the beaten path. The yearly trip to Ilyanor was always dreaded, but the scenery was something he often yearned for. The only thing he missed about his home was the rolling hills of soft grasses and wildflowers, the stretches of uninterrupted forests dense with vines and the scent of dew on blossoms. Everything here hummed and pulsed with life in its purity, tingling his skin and carrying whispering melodies into his ears on salty breezes. He'd forgotten how vibrant the colors were compared to the mainland. He always did until he touched down and darted into the lush curtains of the willow trees at the edge of the sands, careful not to be seen. This was where the blue-haired angel would commune with nature and refresh. Placing his blanket over the warmth of a leyline, he seated himself and tied the ribbons circling his wrists to the thin willow tendrils nearby, lacking the family connection but pretending he wasn't alone and disjointed from most of what the holiday entailed, much the same way as he was disjointed from his race in general. Disjointed from everything, really.

If it wasn't for the positive effects on his magic and soul, Kiigan would never grace these rainbow pebbled waters of Fleuve'ir's river. It wasn't the ritual itself that bothered him, but rather, everything else that went along with it. If he could just meditate and cleanse in solitude, everything would be fine. But no, they all had to share a spiritual realm and treat it like an overly crowded family reunion. Somehow, despite the endless expanse of shallow water and perfect sky, you could never just be alone there. Even without the ribbons to let them enter together, it was as if this realm knew to try and put family and friends together. He'd yet to be able to avoid them the whole time, no matter how hard he tried.

Kiigan closed his eyes and cleared his mind and the next time he opened them was on another plane of existence.

Sure enough, there they were, a vision as predictable as any other memory he held of home. A massive group of shimmering, proud angels, with those he wanted to see least right in front. A shorter man with black and white hair was clapping a tall, oil-slick headed man on the shoulder with a proud grin. The two shared brilliant peridot eyes that were crinkling the exact same way as they wheezed those goofy laughs and started horsing around, looking more like brothers than a father and son. A taller woman with blue hair stood frowning nearby, arms crossed to appear detached, though the twinkle in her amethyst eyes betrayed her own satisfaction. Harm lived up to their expectations, clearly. They hadn't noticed him, but Kiigan knew better than to think his stooping behind a nearby forest of dryads would save him, because he didn't see her. His grandmother.

None of the Youngblood clan looked like they aged over the human equivalent of thirty five, but his grandmother barely looked older than her grandkids. "You're behind me, aren't you?" he asked without turning, and sure enough, a lilting chuckle sounded. "Of course. A grandmother always knows when her littles are being sneaky. You're even worse at it than your cousin Dallia's brood."

With a sigh, he turned to see her, pale skin, pale blue and eyes. Of the whole lot, he found her to be the most palatable. She was gentle and never had a harsh word to say. She always listened, which was important to him. The pain of reuniting with her was a different kind, more guilt than anything. As he turned his crimson orbs on her, as usual, her expression turned wistful. "Just like your grandfather's," she said for the millionth time, reaching up to pat his cheeks. His grandfather had died at the end of the war and was likely the reason the whole family disapproved of his decision to live outside Ilyanor. He felt guilty for always reminding her of the man he never met, and also for living amongst races responsible for his death.

"Come dear, everyone would love to see you," she said, reaching down to grip his hand with shocking strength. She was gentle and patient, but she could toss men twice his size a country mile. This happened every year.

"You know that's not true, móraí," he said, though already defeated. There was no escape.

Making various dismissive noises and quieting him with words of comfort, he was dragged from behind the meditating trees and to the buzzing hive of relatives. Each step added weight to the stone in his gut. As the pair neared, the three he'd been watching went silent and turned to look at him. Luckily, the children running around kept the rest of the family occupied.

"Nice of you to join us, brother!" Harm chirped, grinning in spite of the tight expressions his father and mother were sporting. "This has been a very interesting game of hide and seek. I've gotten close a couple of times, you know, but you keep slipping away. Next time, for sure!"

While Harm made light of it, his father kept glancing at his wife, who grew more annoyed by the second. It quickly reached a head and the mother and son commenced their yearly scowl-off. "Kiigan, quit being a plank and come home," she demanded, voice a bit deep for a woman's, but lacking the general warmth of that half of the species.

"Can you lot not just sit in the water and quietly cleanse? Do we have to do this again?" Kiigan grumbled, arms crossing defensively. He was already counting down the time until it felt like he could break meditation, which was the activity being largely ignored.

The tall bluette bristled. "Enya..." his father rumbled under his breath, but his only acknowledgement was a sharp "Piss off, Malone!" as the woman basically squared up to her wayward son. "Yes, and we'll keep doing it until you come to your senses. Harmon heard a rumor that you burnt down a bar?!"

Kiigan's head jerked to the side, glaring at the smiling angel covered in tattoos. "Snitch."

"I told you I was close," Harm shrugged.

"If you keep on this way, you know what will happen." Ah, mother. Straight to the point. The source of his fear, yet he'd heard it so many time from her that it meant nothing. All it did was make him feel like running all over again, giving into his rebellious ways to be free.

"Well it ain't yet, so I know what I'm doin'. Mind you're business for once, yeah?"

"This is a happy time of reunion,” the matriarch tried to sooth, but neither hot head was having it.

"Great River save me, you're just like him," his mother spat.

“Enya!” Kiigan’s grandmother exclaimed, her own pretty features scrunching in disapproval at her daughter.

She was taking about his grandfather, of course. Seamus Youngblood, husband of Brie, a great warrior angel. The man responsible for most of Enya and Kiigan’s grumpy faces and fiery tempers. It was nearly impossible to speak about the man, and thus all he knew was that he was a lot like someone that had died long before he was born. Someone that caused his grandmother tears to think about and enraged his mother at the mere comparison only made him bitter. It always had and it always would. Apparently he was notoriously stubborn.

“You weren’t always this way."

"Please don't--"

"Why can’t you go back-"

"Mum!"

"-to the sweet Kiigan? The one who helped mine healing quartz and fell in love with--”

"Don't bring her up."

"But you were happy!"

“I was numb! I had a problem, remember? I couldn’t get through one day here without blowing out my brains with some sort of stuff up my nose.”

“Better that than roaming around, playing chicken with sin.”

“You would rather...” he started in disbelief, then pressed his mouth into an angry and betrayed scowl. His own mother would rather him take what the mainland called drugs to stay within the lines than be himself and happy. Granted, it was natural Gaiyan stuff, but it was the principle of the matter. Fake happiness only put off and compounded all the negative stuff for once he was sober.

“Oh, don’t look at me that way. It’s better than the alternative.”

“I’m starting to think death would be preferred.”

Enya looked more tired than as taken aback as a mother should. “Wouldn’t it, though...” she mumbled, but hadn’t realized it’d been aloud until he was gone.

The ferocity of which Kiigan's consciousness returned to his body had the ribbons ripped from the trees before his eyes were even open. Willow limbs, ivy, and flower petals were left snapped and discarded on the abandoned blanket as he tore free from the planet's embrace and immediately took to the sky. Screw them. Screw all of them! It was more of the same, but it never got any easier. They all seemed so unbothered that Scott was dead. They never even talked about the loss, and it was apparently a better fate than the possibility of turning into an Eldritch. They never listened to his reasons for leaving. They didn't care. Never had. His stomach twisted in knots and he was so distracted that he didn't even realize he was flying in the opposite direction of Avalon Islands, where he was expected at a party.

He wasn't exactly in a party mood, now was he? Maybe it was that, or maybe it was the reminder of life at home that had him flying straight to acquire the very thing he'd sworn off not long after leaving Ilyanor. Floom. It was a delightfully natural bloom that grew on trees to the north near Dragonspear Peak, coming in a rainbow of colors and full of glittery pollen that induced a euphoric state of mind. He hazarded a guess that it could be used as an antidepressant on the mainland, and maybe it was, but the side-effect was quite unpleasant. When addicts came down from the joyous, numbed high, all the problems they were escaping still awaited them... and it all felt worse than if they'd just endured it in the moment. The payment for soaring highs was cavernous lows, the likes of which felt bottomless and inescapable. After a while, even the induced happiness felt hollow, but for those content with running from their problems, it was all a small price to pay.

Though he could have picked his own, he realized what he was doing before that. In its natural state, the pollen only works while the bloom is still on the tree. Would there be a year of Lunar Cleansing bullcrap he could get through without getting some kind of wasted? Wavering on whether he wanted to walk this path again, he swerved and headed for an old acquaintance skilled in harvesting and preserving Floom for more long-term use. The blooms could be shriveled before they released their pollen, formed into dried balls, and stored in mesh bags. Adding a bit of magic to the dried bloom would reinvigorate it and release a dose of dust before it reverted, allowing for repeated uses before a new bloom would be needed. It felt like defeat purchasing such a thing after so long without it, but... his mental state was scrambled. All the conflict and rejection and guilt, his own mother entertaining the idea that being dead like Scott might be better than his current existence? Kiigan wasn't good for anyone like this, so it was better to be safe than sorry. It was better than being himself, right?

With that business concluded, his powerful white wings carried him across the ocean toward the islands far on the horizon, though he hardly noticed the journey. His mind was anywhere but on what he was doing, and the more he thought, the more agitated he became.

***

By the time he landed on the edge of the crowded sands, he was barely more than a seething beast. His wings sealed away and he jammed his hands into his black trunk pockets, stalking along the edge of the rowdy moondance festival like a monster pacing a cage. He didn't have to worry about anyone seeing he was an angel, because everyone was looking at the sky... why? He whipped his head around, took in the double moon for a moment, then scowled harder. And just what omen was this supposed to entail? Good or bad? Right now, it felt like neither would have much effect, yet he felt some sort of added dread. Maybe it was some sort of sign that his mother was right and sin would catch up to him, and death was a preferable fate for all involved. Or that nothing would ever change and this was all there was to his stupid life.

Turning his back on the phenomenon, it only took him a few minutes to locate his friends, thanks to one really loud 'witch', but... there were several things that only worsened his mood. Nudging through a couple of people blocking his way, he saw them at a short distance. All of them, though hopefully, they didn't see him. The shard of hope that sparkled for a second upon seeing Jen, who reminded him of her, exploded upon seeing that counterfeit Wes from the Singles thing hovering at her side like a gnat on some bad potatoes. Real Wes was also nearby, looking down at Emi, who was....

Well, let's just say the Gaiyan joke, while he was usually very good at rolling with them, fell quite flat... like a bomb on solid ground. Too soon, not that she'd know that. She didn't know about what he'd just endured, nor did she even know he was, in fact, one of the Gaiyans she mocked. Did the others laugh? Kiigan didn't care, though. His eyes blazed luminous red beneath the windswept blue hair mussed with pieces of flowers, leaves, and twigs. The hands below the shackles of torn ribbons balled and his jaw kept clenching as if barely holding back a rant or scream, yet he was silent, as usual. This was just one more person to poke at what he had no choice but to be, another invalidation he would never be able to overcome, more confusion about who he was and why he was here. Basically, he was really sensitive right now... to everything. Approaching now would be the worst decision. He'd take it out on everyone who even looked at him, and that wasn't what he wanted. No, he wanted to start a fight, an all-out brawl with strangers he didn't have to think or care about. Taking a slow breath in through his nose, he turned his back and stalked back to the edge of the waves to pace and decide if maybe leaving was the best option, and if he did leave, where would he go?

((OOC note: The only person I need to have noticed him is Wes, since Wes knows about the angel thing. Kii just needs a quick moment with Wes and then we'll be down to party lmao))

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
He’d been holding back his own laughter when she turned progressively more orange at his mercy. Emi was beginning to look more like a laughing carrot—hair color and face paint considered—laying on the ground underneath him. It took everything in him to not stop and double over snickering. So Wes did all he could do; he bit down on his ever growing smirk and continued the relentless assault on her face. It wasn’t until she started attempting to sputter out the smears which had accidentally been pushed too close to her mouth that he would have called for a small break.

He leaned away, only for the tables to be turned on him. It broke the tenuous hold he had over his laugh and, though he tried to keep it in, a few lighthearted chuckles found their way out when Emi straddled him instead.

“Mhm, right…” He looked incredibly amused by her, but not because of what her threat entailed but by the way she’d once again thrown his own language back at him. Maybe it should’ve been a little more surprising how perfect her pronunciation had been or how she’d used the word correctly within the context of the sentence, but in the heat of the moment all the usual line of overthinking had been kicked aside; replaced by just her and her fiery competitiveness and how sensual she could make his own language sound. It could’ve been a little dangerous at that moment, when he felt an allure, a compulsive draw, and his body began to move on impulse towards her mere seconds after hitting the ground.

He’d only managed to prop himself up on his elbows when he found himself flinching away as more paint came his way. A light laugh shadowed over the unexpected jolt and stopped him; her own hand kept him at bay as well, his muscles tensing momentarily before relaxing under her touch. It wasn’t lost on him how he was being felt up, whether she was teasing or not it still managed to stir him a bit more than before. “Hmm… what?” there was a slight tilt to his head when her words wavered, his own teasing expression shifting curiously along with hers. “What are you…?”

His confident smile grew a little weak, and his gaze questioning. After all that was happening this was really weird pause. Emi seemed confused, which in turn only made him more confused himself. She reached for him and he surprisingly leaned into it, blinking a few times in thought. Why…? A pinprick-like pain set off an uncomfortable cold wave in his chest which caused him to suck in a shaky breath when she wiped his cheek. In those small seconds he studied her face and her familiar emerald eyes, but all that had managed was to cast his attention downward and away from her in a sudden bout of avoidance and even… shame.

It wasn’t until she spoke up once more that his blue eyes dared peek up at her, only for them to grow wider as from the horizon rose a very unexpected source of light. The surprise washed away any ill feelings and cooled him off from their previous playful entanglement. “Yeah… you too…” the reply was a little more off kilter considering what he was currently experienced, not dismissive in the least but distracted and genuine. It managed to throw him back into his usual casual state and he awkwardly patted her shoulder as though she were an old buddy due to lack of focus.

He was stuck staring at the double moons like a startled, dumbfounded puppy; just as though it’d been his very first time in the world once again. He looked between her, random gawkers, and back at the sky in case anyone was as startled or confused as him. “Is this not…? Are you not…?” He tried to make sense of this, gesturing between her and the two moons questioningly. His Otherwolder brain had been completely blown off its socks. Emi had shrugged it off so easily. Just… how!? How do you just shrug off something like this? Especially so nonchalantly! Was he the only reasonable one here?

The only thing that stopped him from spiraling down into a rabbit hole of ‘this world is crazy, how is this even possible’ was the minty woman’s loud voice. “Emi!” He practically sprung onto his knees next to her, sand kicking up behind, him as Emi laughed away at her racist joke. “Heh…” he tried not to laugh as well, but the boner joke was actually really funny. “Emi, if yous a Gaiyan then I’m goddamn Fleuve’ir,” he said with an amused smirk, pinched fingers coming to rest at his chest as pointed at himself. “You’re more of a… cabbage. A cabbage sprouting a lil’ cabbage boner.” At that he flicked some of her green hair onto her face, some of that mischievous energy coming back at how stupid she looked buried on the ground. Wes waddled closer on his knees, and he squinted at her as though he’d just noticed the most entertaining thing in the world.

He poked her forehead.

“Cabbage head.”

“Testa.” Poke. “Di.” Poke. “Cavolo.” Poke. “That’s what you are,” he laughed, and continued poking her a little bit harder. “Cavolo. Cavolo. Cavolo.” Maybe he was coming off as a bit of a bully, what, with his pokes being a little harder than he’d intended at times and a kind of sadistically amused grin spreading on his face, but he didn’t care. This was actually a lot funnier than he’d thought it’d be.

Not wanting to drill a hole into Emi’s head, he stopped for a moment to take in their surroundings again. Most everyone was still gawking at the incredibly distressing double moons that he seriously, at the moment, tried not to pay too much attention to. He peered over the crowds, only for him to catch sight of a certain angelman turning his back and walking off. “Huh…” Did Kiigan see all this? He couldn’t help but wonder if it’d bothered him. For as weird a Gaiyan as the blue-haired angel was, Wes was still unsure of where the guy’s sensitivities lied. Though he was pretty sure something like this wouldn’t be enough to really set off his temper. Something must’ve happened.

Wes blinked down at Emi’s comically painted face, he moved quickly, his lips pressing against her cheek in a quick peck. It was meant to catch her off guard, like she had done earlier. Possibly a bit childish from his part in doing so, but it’d also been done as a form of gratitude in a way. He’d actually had fun.

“I’ll be right back,” he whispered while the two were still cheek to cheek, before pushing himself off the ground and walking backwards away from the thief. Wes addressed her one final time, a finger pressed firmly to his mouth as though telling her to keep a secret. He winked, delivering a charming smile as he did so. “You keep your pretty little head vegetating, ‘kay? Maybe you’ll sprout some more cabbage boners by the time I’m back!”

A final chuckle; and with that, he blended into the masses with alarming ease.

He looked like a mess, he knew, as he slid between the small sea of people. From head to toe he’d been bathed in paints as though a rainbow had magically descended on the small redhead and angrily imprinted on him its colors. His swim trunks were hardly white anymore, his chest, face, and legs were just covered in splotches. The playfight might have ended peacefully but the war on aesthetics had been lost when compared to the rest of the partygoers, nevermind the sand clinging to his face and other parts of his body.

None of it really bothered him, however, as he finally found Kiigan stomping about the shoreline. Perhaps he shouldn’t have been as glad as he was to see him. A small part of him grew somewhat annoyed by the feeling, his mind momentarily reeling as he neared. It was because he’d kept them waiting, right? Nothing more, nothing less. He wasn’t one to miss most people, he told himself. If he did, he’d start building houses out of ‘I miss you’ bricks and that was one thing he actively tried to avoid.

Yet as he popped his head from behind the towering male, the big cheesy grin that plastered his face could hardly be contained. A dead giveaway that he had, indeed, missed him. “Hey!” he greeted, a hand coming to rest on his back, before moving to stand before him. “Ya sure took your sweet time there. Kinda was starting to wonder where… you… were…?” His unusually upbeat attitude quieted down as he really gave the angel a look over, his expression softening up while a while a brow raised more out of worry than curiosity.

“What’s got your feathers all ruffled?” he asked quickly after and went quiet, before a small realization hit him and he could feel himself internally cringe. “I mean—" Pinching the bridge of his nose he let out a tired sigh. “Christ, she’s gettin’ to me…” The joke had been entirely unintentional, and he somewhat cursed Emi. Whatever funny bone she had was contagious apparently. “What I mean is… what happened? You look like you got a whole devil in ya.”

“You also look…” he got up close, unable to keep back his usual cleanly habits and standing on his toes to look over the bluette’s shoulder. Not only did the mess of twigs and flowers and everything else he couldn’t exactly make out stayed at the top of his head, it extended down to his ponytail. “Did you pick a fight in someone’s garden or something?” His questions weren’t meant to poke fun at him. If anything, they were genuine. He was honestly at as much at a loss with Kiigan as he had been with the moons. But he could at least surmise that whatever happened in his time must’ve left him like this. Wes reached for his hair, taking the time to pluck a small pink petal and show it him. “See?”

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Mon Jan 24, 2022 4:12 am

While he'd hoped he could slip away unnoticed, it figured that Wes would spot him. As the man approached, Kii was being rather unobservant so he had no idea anyone was close enough to touch him until the hand was already there. While he didn't flinch, he did stop pacing and whip his head around, a peeved shout barely contained by his clenched jaw. If he clenched any harder, it felt like his teeth might break. Instead of screaming, his eyes just glared, continuing to do so even as he realized it was his boss and one of the very friends waiting on him.

Honestly, if he hadn't known that Wes and Emi were waiting for him, he'd have never shown up. Not in this state. As the strawberry, whom Kiigan either didn't notice or didn't care was covered in paint, went on speaking, the angel remained intensely silent. The rage in his eyes did soften just a bit, making him look more wounded than anything. Maybe he did have a whole devil in him. That's basically what his mother saw every time she looked at him, it might as well be what everyone else saw too. As probably predicted, his frown only deepened.

The question about the garden finally broke the seal on his lips. "What are you on abo-" he started to snap, but a pink petal was pulled from his hair and shown to him. After a pause, his brows scrunched irritably and he reached up to swat at all the leftover nature that had grown on him in his hellacious time cleansing. He didn't get it all but hardly took the time to double-check. The movement was impatient and sharp as it was, and he still didn't think to remove the torn ribbons at his wrists.

"Lunar Cleansing. Crap grows on you," he said, his voice brusque. "It's a Gaiyan thing, I thought you understood that from Emi's demonstration," the angel added sharply, clearly a bit peeved with Wes as well about Emi's joke. He was being a bit mean. It wasn't right to take it out on Wes, but it just bubbled up before he could stop it.

With a sigh, not unlike a kettle letting off some steam to keep from exploding, he thought he might as well get to the point. "It's... family crap. Don't worry about it." The words were stoic, but the way he looked away from Wes was anything but. He wanted to feel better and have fun with his friends, but he was still unsure if he should. He felt the draw toward Wes as it was, like spending time with him would soothe him. Perhaps it was a mistake on his part, but he felt like Wes wanted him around sometimes, like he and Emi accepted him as he was instead of what they wanted him to be. Was it worth it?

Kiigan seemed like a fish out of water, suffocating and suffering from simply trying to live outside their natural environment. Well, more than usual. "I don't think I should stay. I'll ruin the good time," he told the smaller man, though he was uncertain. He still looked like he could punch something, but at least it wasn't aimed at Wes. "I just came to tell you that, boss, but I didn't want to interrupt." One of his fists slipped into his pocket and wallowed the floom blossom between his fingers. It would fix it, at least for today, but... his eyes slowly shifted to rest on the gingersnap, looking for some kind of answer.

all these little lies

“Oh, hey— wait…” He muttered as the petal made its slow descent from between his fingers. The proximity between the two coupled with Kiigan’s sharp movements startled him somewhat. He’d been about to continue picking out more bits and pieces from his hair but instead found himself drawing back, somewhat expecting a much harsher response to his approach, and falling back into a normal stand from his previous tip-toed stance.

The sharpness with which he spoke didn’t really bother him as much as how tense he seemed and how tight those crimson eyes were drawn as he looked into them. So he had heard the joke, after all. Well, really, anyone would have. Emi was kinda hard to tune out most of the time so it wouldn’t surprise him if the minty woman had managed to piss off more than her fair share of attendees. Still, he kept quiet regardless of the way he’d been addressed, carefully taking in Kiigan’s words as he continued to speak.

His reaction was perhaps a little bit delayed. What had been a quizzical look at first had turned surprisingly pensive, his attention slowly been dragged to the sandy beach floor during the conversation.

Family problems, huh…? That, he understood very well; and he couldn’t help but ruminate for a moment as he listened. His brows knit in what could’ve been perceived as anger, but as he looked up at the towering bluette a small sympathetic smile began to form. “I think you’re just being silly,” he said a while after Kiigan expressed his doubts about interrupting, blue eyes softening like he’d just heard something vaguely amusing. “C’mere.”

He drew his arms up invitingly, motioning for him to either come to a squat or lean down as though there were more to say that required him to be face-to-face. “I ain’t sayin’ you’re wrong for being pissed off. Trust me, family’s one thing I know more than anyone else ain’t easy. But assuming that you’ll ruin things before giving yourself the chance is just kinda silly.”

“So, come on,” he flexed his fingers, further urging Kiigan to come close. Maybe he looked a bit silly just standing there like that, but he really didn’t care at the moment as he let his gaze further settle on Kiigan’s. “Maybe I do wanna hear about your family crap whether you wanna talk about it or not. Maybe I do want you to stay regardless. I know Emi would; she was asking about you, y’know.” He seemed inviting, his voice lowering to a more reassuring tone. He was used to things like these. Members came to him with their issues more time than he could count. Yet there was a special sort of regard in this case, that while it didn’t go quite perceived by the small mafioso as of yet, did give an extra sorta honesty to his words.

“So what’s it gonna be?” Tilting his head out of curiosity, his smile didn’t waver, yet he did inject some amount of lightheartedness into what was said next. “Don’t make me have to kick your ass.”

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Tue Jan 25, 2022 12:11 am

"Hmmph," Kiigan snorted, still tense, but on his way to looking less like he would try to knock someone's head off their shoulders if they so much as breathed his way. "You could try," he countered, always confident (sometimes overly) in his strength. The tone might not have matched, but it was just banter. The smirk just couldn't break through his frown quite yet, but he wasn't really challenging the smaller man. If he was, he wouldn't have let some of the tension ease from his jaw and shoulders.

The angel hesitated for a moment or two, letting the ginger's words sink in and really bounce around, now that he was in a slightly more listening mood. He was 'being silly', but Wes acknowledged and understood where his anger was coming from instead of getting angry like he'd expected. It didn't make the hurt go away, but it was some aloe on the burns. Maybe the man really did want his company no matter how sour, maybe he did want to hear about his problems. That was a new feeling. And Emi, despite being mostly responsible for the extra fuel on his forest fire, had asked about him. She was a pain, but she wasn't all bad. These were his friends, right?

It was such a small comfort, yet it meant more to Kii than Wes would likely ever know. For his defensive lashing out to he met with understanding and a smile, hands mysteriously inviting, how could he not respond? It was disarming, being offered comfort. He wasn't used to it. The big guy moved closer to the mafioso and slipped down to even out the height difference a little. As his knees sank into the soft sand and he angled his face to look up at Wes, he finally seemed more relaxed and his gaze searched eyes that matched the ocean gently crashing at their side. His shoulders sagged sulkily and he sighed again, but most of the aggression had melted into dejected sadness. What did Wes want to do that required him to be close? "I guess I can stay if you want me to," Kii said quietly.

…And there was the response. Wes couldn’t help but hold back his own smirk, silent amusement causing him to press his lips together. “Yeah,” he nodded calmly. “I can.” While he would’ve been a little more challenging in turn to Kiigan’s retort, maybe take that banter a little bit farther if he wanted, the tightness removing itself from the angel’s shoulders left him feeling pleased, if not somewhat relieved he’d managed as much. He was starting to relax, which was as good as a step forward as any.

It did catch him kind of off-guard, however, when his unvoiced request was actually complied with. The surprise had been subtly visible on his face for a small moment, but it didn’t stop him from stepping closer and holding onto Kiigan’s shoulders as he descended. “If I want you to, huh…?” he repeated softly, returning that dejected gaze with a comforting one instead; his smile falling a little weaker at just how sad he seemed. Aside from the initial surprise, the redhead couldn’t help but be a little a bit touched by his willingness to stay just because of him and, for a moment, he wasn’t quite sure what to say.

So he only stared, a hand brushing through Kiigan’s hair in a soothing motion. “Don’t make it sound like you don’t wanna be here,” he teased, breathing out a chuckle before plucking a small stick from the top of the bluette’s head. “Now lemme fix you up. You kinda made your hair an even bigger mess earlier.” A few small flowers and vines and other little bits had tangled themselves even further into the pretty strands of blue. Some dangled idly in the wind, other bits stuck out like dozens of little horns. If anything, it made him look a little funny. And Wes himself had to admit it was kind of cute to look at, though he gave no indication towards it in an attempt to not bother his sulking companion.

Gently plucking out a few leaves, he’d ask, “So feel like sharing? Dunno if it’d help you some but I’m all ears if you need it.”

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Tue Jan 25, 2022 12:36 pm

Though the angel was usually either clammed up tight or brutally honest and direct, distraught Kiigan was somewhere in the middle for a change. He quietly knelt there, probably looking quite strange to everyone else who may be watching, simply watching his friend's face and expressions from this flipped perspective. He wondered idly what the man was really thinking about him, if anything at all. They stared at each other like that for a few moments, but Kii didn't find it uncomfortable or anything. In fact, he only became more comfortable when those curiously ungloved fingers ran through his hair, comfortable enough to close his eyes. No one outside his family knew how much he liked having his hair messed with.

Wes plucked the pieces of overgrowth he'd missed from his hair, which was much appreciated now that the rage had quieted to a simmer. If he was going to stay, he couldn't be looking like a Gaiyan, especially not in front of Emi. Without looking, his fingers snaked down and under the ribbons at his wrists, tearing them off to fall into the sand with one swift motion.

At the question of sharing, it was his first instinct to just shake his head and keep it all to himself like he normally did. Though he had a habit of saying whatever came to mind without much of a filter, when it came to personal stuff, he was suddenly very cagey. But... he hadn't really been this close to someone in a long time, not since he left Ilyanor with an old friend. It would be okay, right? He liked Wes, and the little man was taking time out from the party to deal with him. An explanation of some sort was in order.

With a heavy sigh, he did something probably a little strange, but when was Kiigan not doing strange things? He didn't really want to open his eyes to tell whatever it was he was going to divulge since eye contact would make it harder for him, nor did he trust his face not to express itself without his permission. Leaning his head forward, he bonked his forehead into the gingersnap's chest, ignoring the rainbow paint that was smeared there even as it transferred. The angel was a very physical type of guy, always with the nudges and pokes and shoulder pats, but bonks were reserved for special occasions. Slight vulnerability, the rare Kiigan commodity.

"One of my brothers died when we were wee," he spoke, voice still quiet but very even. It'd been long enough that he could talk about it without showing much pain, though he wondered if he'd ever be able to 'get over it'. It still made birthdays hard. He still had bad days, but it seemed he was the only one. It was twisted. Or was he twisted? "My mum hates my life choices so much that she'd prefer me dead too than being tempted by you sinners. That's what she said today at the cleansin'." It was his very summarized version of the hurtful encounter he didn't stick around to clarify. He'd hold this grudge along with all the others until inevitably next year's Lunar Cleansing added another to the pile. "She wants me home, back to Ilyanor where I can't shame anyone, but I'd rather eat one of those firearms than do that, ya know? Goin' back would kill me, but I guess either way, she'd get what she wanted, yea? Two dead sons, both of which she'd just... get over like it was nothin'."

He’d been trying to carefully remove one particularly stuck piece, fumbling slightly, and frowning when it only seemed to lodge itself further still. Normally he would’ve fixated, deftly working on all the remaining buds and leaves, but it seemed the redhead couldn’t exactly bring himself to properly focus. His thoughts had mostly gone to Kiigan. It was odd. In the few months they’d been together he’d gotten so used to seeing the scowling grouch at his side, always so tough and ready to deal with anyone that could pose an issue, that seeing him be this vulnerable felt kind of wrong. A little stake to the chest, he’d suppose. And having the angel press against him only drove that feeling home.

It'd stopped him momentarily, the small flower he’d picked falling back into place. He blinked down at the bluette not in surprise but in worry. A part of Wes was glad that he wouldn’t be seen frowning as well. He figured it wouldn’t really help.

His chest rose and fell as he let out a large exhale. He understood the pains of loss and the harshness of family expectations. It all sounded so very familiar to him that it was easy to understand where he was coming from. Parents that would rather you be dead that give you an option. Wanting to not be around anymore...he’d been there before, in every which way of the meaning. It’d made him really think back to Montselice. Something he didn’t enjoy doing.

There was a subtle difference between the two, though, from what he’d just learned. It oddly enough made him a bit envious.

One of his hands brushed through his hair again, careful not to bump off the small bud he’d dropped earlier, and only stopping to hold him a little bit closer. The other combed through his remaining hair and down his long ponytail which he lifted gently lifted it between his fingers to idly flick away a few remaining twigs; not paying too much mind when another flower fell onto his palm. Kiigan had his sympathies. Which is probably why Wes stayed quiet for as long as he did. He just continued to think and think away.

“…Then let’s not give her another dead son,” the response came just as quiet, soothing still, but seemingly decided. “I can’t say… I can’t say I understand what’s going on with her, but I can’t blame you for not wanting to be around. It was a good choice as any.” One he should’ve done himself, his mind instantly chimed in. He ignored it.

Honestly, it’d be easy to point fingers given what he was given; but he knew there was always more to it than that. If not, then maybe she was as cold-hearted as she was made to be. Who knew, really. At least now he had answers to the few questions which had floated by the night he’d learned he was a Gaiyan. But the answers only seemed to bring up a small slew of worries in the moments where the redhead didn’t speak.

Wes continued, angling his face down at Kiigan and eyes seemingly studying him while lost in thought. Thinking and overthinking came naturally to the experienced mafioso, but at least he could always will himself to keep talking through it regardless. “Really, if continuing to shame them keeps you around longer. Well…” he shrugged, as though the answer had been obvious from the start. “Just let us sinners take care of you. No having to eat anything. Just you being yourself.” He wasn’t sure what Kiigan’s stance was on the whole sinner situation, but he hoped it would alleviate him of the dreariness some more. The guy really did need someone at the end of the day, that much was clearly obvious.

“Oh, and I’m sorry about your brother,” he whispered, the soft tone in which he spoke full of understanding. “Losing someone close isn’t easy, I know.”

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Tue Feb 01, 2022 3:55 am

As frustratingly sparse with words as he ever was, Kii finally leaned his head back a little so he could look up at the ginger. "Thanks," he said, a simple word in a voice quiet but the word full of multiple meanings. Thanks for not wishing he'd die. Thanks for your comfort. Thanks for fixing his hair. Thanks for expressing remorse that a gentle soul who hadn't deserved to die -- someone Wes didn't even know -- was dead, even if he wasn't "worth as much" because he was smaller and weaker. Thanks for validating his sadness over the loss of said gentle soul. If sadness could physically manifest, it'd be a whole goblin perched on his shoulder, gnawing and bashing on his head, but it was a bit less violent as he gazed at what he liked to think was a friend. Wes was a person he'd come to like in the last few months. As a person who had a hard time making and keeping relationships of any substance, when he did come across someone not immediately put off by xyz Kiigan reason, the angel started to get attached whether he wanted to or not.

In fact, Kii wanted to hug him, but he hesitated. What were the rules here? Were there any? And if there were, would he even care to follow them? The touch barrier had been breached long ago, though he'd gathered that neither Wes nor Emi really remembered it. But that didn't mean it didn't happen. The angel craved physical touch. He wanted to bury his face again and just stay like that until the goblin took a break until the world didn't feel so cold and empty. Lowering his face again, he put his forehead back in the spot it'd momentarily left, but now his arms came up and wrapped around the smaller man's waist.

He earnestly hugged Wes close, not caring if it looked strange for someone as tall and rugged as he was kneeling and hugging some guy at the edge of the ocean. They could draw whatever conclusion they liked since Kiigan wasn't one to care what strangers thought and never corrected anyone anyway. Wes would ground him at this moment, anchor him to the beach and convince him that staying was something he and maybe even Emi wanted. That someone wanted him in spite of his flaws. That he wanted to be here, too. He was grateful. It wasn't enough to shoo away all the negative energy, but it made him want to try. Not just for himself, but for his friends. Floom may not be the best decision for anyone, but instead of flooming for avoidance, he wanted to put it off so everyone could have a good day. Sure, it would go against what Wes just said about being himself, but details. It felt good to hear someone say it, even if Kiigan didn't really believe it.

"Thanks," he repeated, followed by a sigh. The angel leaned his head back a little again, scowling up, but in a good way that only Kii could pull off. "I guess I was right. Sinners ain't so bad."

all these little lies
and most of them are mine

Small worries nagged at him the longer he held on. Things like how neither he nor Emi had yet to face the realities of his work, the curse, and his odd reaction to it at forming the contract; things that wouldn’t exactly help with whatever strife Kiigan was facing in his life. Ah, but Wes was selfish, wasn’t he? A trait that urged him to keep things to himself regardless of consequence tended to superimpose certain thoughts. Take what you want, keep what you want— even if that stake in his chest did twist and turn when those large arms wrapped around him; as though holding him close could stave off the spooks and frights that still haunted the bluette.

“Aha… ma dai…” he breathed softly, those little thoughts and worries being melted into a puddle of compassion and fluster. God, did getting sappy turn him into some bumbling idiot.

It’d made him a little bit embarrassed, physicality being something he enjoyed but not used to receiving in earnest. So it took him a second, maybe a few blinks, before he slightly shifted forward and returned the hug. Wes wanted him to feel better, but couldn’t help but slowly descend and bury himself onto the top of the other male’s head as though the paint didn’t already do a good job of hiding his kinda red face. He found his own sense of comfort in the few moments they’d shared like that. Perhaps he wouldn’t have minded it a little longer.

It was only broken when pretty scarlet eyes peeked up at him and he had to move back a tad to let him speak; the very Kiigan-esque scowl willing out a quiet chuckle whether he wanted it to come out or not. “Yeah… I guess you were,” he agreed at the sinner comment, a toothy smile taking hold through the embarrassment.

From the hug Wes’s arms loosened to a light rest over his shoulders, one thumb coming up to rub the colorful smudge of paint on the angel’s forehead and causing an amused head tilt when he realized how fast it’d dried. “You know what you need…?” Reaching up, he added the other flower (which had fallen a little bit farther back on his head) to the one already on his palm. A yellow little thing that had somehow avoided damage, which in one smooth motion he nestled atop the angel’s ear. He made contact with his forehead again, this time in the form of his lips delivering a soft kiss. “Bello,” he called him—a small gesture meaning he was glad to see him in better spirits. “You need some drinks.”

“On the house, of course,” he pitched in a second later, sounding a little more lighthearted than before. “No use wallowing at the end of a bottle if both your soul and pockets hurt, right?” The smaller of the two didn’t seem to be going anywhere, properly wanting to accompany Kiigan in any case. Nor did he step away from him, possibly kinda caught up with the moment for his feet to actually move. He cradled the remaining flower between his hands, however, and flicked his chin up as though telling Kiigan to stand. “So c’mon, before people start thinkin’ we just got engaged,” he was joking, of course. Whatever stares they’d gotten not bothering him too much at present.

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Wed Feb 02, 2022 7:55 pm

Despite himself and his horrific mood, Wes's forehead kiss had Kiigan's head dimly glowing. Even as he continued to scowl up at the strawberry, he seemed much calmer than before and perked up at the sound of drinks 'on the house'. Indeed, while the Gaiyan still wasn't very materialistic, he had learned that empty pockets were a pain all their own, one he didn't need on top of all the other general awfulness.

"What's engaged?" the angel puzzled, once more showing his 'I've been trapped in a small part of Ilyanor all my life' ignorance as he got back to his feet. On the way, since it was a rather long way up for someone as tall as he, Wes received an appreciative and affectionate bumping of the foreheads before Kii was fully standing and slinging an arm over Wes's shoulders. Fleuve'ir give him strength, this was one thing he didn't want to mess up. Though cautious, he admitted to himself that he had people now, a couple that could really turn out to be something he could tell he needed.

While the lumbering man walked through the sands with his gingersnap, he pulled the little bag out of his pocket and managed to fumble the dried bloom into his palm. With a small release of magic, the flower burst back to life, floating and unfurling in his hand with mystical brilliance. Leaning away from Wes as much as he could without letting go or risking pollination of the mafioso, Kii sniffed the shimmery rainbow dust, immediately shivering as it did its work by punching every single shred of negativity into the unseen and unfelt crevices of his brain. His normally saturated crimson eyes muted and paled just a little, inching toward a rosey pink without quite tipping over the edge. Imperceptible to most, all except who knew his eyes well.

The more overt change, however, was that Kiigan was a new man. The weight on his shoulders abruptly lifted and it was as if the cleansing had never happened. As if his parents loved him how he was and supported him. Like he and Harm had a great relationship and Scott had never died and he didn't have to worry about Ashelyn being left alone to deal with it all. Like he wasn't in debt to some extortionist tavern owner and terrified of proving his mother right and becoming eldritch for his efforts.

Suddenly he felt very good about everything!

The scowl wasn't entirely gone, since that's just how his face rested, but it seemed like any moment he could smile. Not smirk, but smile. The world was soft and nothing could hurt him. "Now where's Emi? I need you sinners to show me how you party at these 'moondances'..."

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Emi Kazama Wed Feb 02, 2022 10:11 pm

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

The multi-colored Emi buried in the sand giggled at Wesley’s joke about being Fleure’vir, then winced with a grin spreading along her lips when the Italian otherworlder poked her head and called her cavolo, which had to be the first word in Italian that she learned what it meant. Cabbage. "Pfft!" Now that she thought of it, her green hair did probably look like a cabbage sprouting on the ground! "Pahahah!" Emi couldn't help but laugh at his joke about a cabbage head with a cabbage boner. Even she had to admit that was pretty funny. Wesley sure had an amazing sense of humor; she kinda liked that!

The kiss on the cheek did give the clown princess of crime pause, causing her to blink with the beginnings of a blush before she narrowed her eyebrows at him with a playful smirk. She knew he was getting her back for that kiss earlier; she'll just have to one up him again. As if she was going to wait around for him to come back though. Yeah right. Emi pulled herself out of the sand, careful not to faceplant stupidly on the sand in her attempts to get up."Hmph!" The jade-haired joker harrumphed aloofly at everyone's reactions to her racist joke, brushing it off casually like she did to the grains of sand that coated the sides of her arm. Ah, who cares? Everyone's a critic. At least Wesley laughed; somehow that seemed to matter more. The joke was for him in mind as the audience, after all.

With a confident smile, Emi then ambled over to the beach shower to wash away the rest of the sand that coated the rest of her curvy body. Of course, there was a moment in time where Emi privately turned away to surreptitiously take some sand from underneath her top as well as between her cleavage, which was more annoying than trying to find something in a sofa. Just when you think you're clean, you find more sand. Ah, the things she does for a joke!

As the comedic mage brought a towel around her to dry herself, she noticed that Wesley still wasn't back and decided to order a fruity Avalon Island Iced Tea. Bringing the straw to her lips to drink the sneaky alcoholic contents of the fruity cocktail, her emerald eyes kept her gaze on the two moons up in the sky. She'd heard that such a thing was a rare phenomenon, but she had never seen it herself; it was rarer than a shooting star.

Or maybe she just didn't remember seeing two moons before.

Emi tended to drink a little too much during Lunar Cleansing. Yeah, she knew what this event really was about. She remembered how picturesque it was when she discovered it for the first time;  Gaiyans would seemingly wake up from a slumber while the earth would embrace their bodies and decorate them with the most beautiful assortment of colorful flowers that appeared to be straight from a watercolor painting. It was something you just had to see for yourself to really capture that moment. She knew a certain angel was probably doing that Lunar Cleansing shit right now, too; probably staring at the same fucking moons..

"Another Avalon Island Iced Tea, please!" The streetrat ordered another with a pout on her lips now, as if the memory left a terrible taste in her mouth. As usual when she was frustrated, Emi moved to plate herself some food along with her drink in efforts to feel better again. Fuck that angel! Her life was better off without seeing that stupid angel ever again!

Drawing a sigh, Emi let her cheek rest on her hand that was propped by an elbow at the table she sat in, using her fork to poke the cooked fish on her plate. If only Kii would get back soon, wherever he was..

Unfortunately, the minty-haired thief wasn't used to sitting down and eating like everyone else. Used to running away while eating food she'd steal, Emi would play "catch my feet" with the water along the receding shoreline while munching on a piece of fish. As soon as she'd finish eating her piece, she'd go back for another bite of food or take a sip of her second cocktail drink and skip over to watch the dancing just as the lanterns illuminated the sands with thousands of colors.

Post by wes Thu Feb 03, 2022 6:53 am

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
“Oh, ya don’t…?” Wes lifted a brow at his question, amusement brushing off the remaining bits of embarrassment from the redhead. Another small chuckle was produced when they bumped foreheads, him returning the bit of affection by leaning into it slightly. He also couldn’t say he was uncomfortable with an arm over his shoulder like that, but somehow the action felt a teensy bit familiar to him. Not that he could remember why that was.

“It’s… when you decide you want to get married, right. Kinda of a small waitin’ time before you tie the knot. I dunno what you Mirians be callin’ it, but I guess it’s like a… bonding… cere… mony…?” That brow he raised might as well threatened to leave his hairline by the time Kiigan started doing some weird hoodoo voodoo plant magic. Despite the face of ‘what the fuckery’ as he craned his neck to get a better look, he remained quiet, fascinated. While it was an incredibly catching sight, he had to liken it to a drug taken from his own experience dealing and handling.

“Riiiight,” was all that left Wes after Kiigan spoke again, the smile perking into a semi-worried, semi-awkward one. “Was that really…” necessary?, he would’ve added but caught himself. He’d never been on the side of indulging in own stashes and, while he certainly was no angel when it came to getting others hooked, he couldn’t say he enjoyed seeing Kiigan do that. Much less when he thought he could see some change in his eyes, but in the dark of the night it was harder to perceive than if they were as close as they were moments before.

Had his help not been enough? Wes guessed not. He’d never seen him do this before, not that he was aware of what the blueberry did in his off time. Part him couldn’t help but be slightly disappointed, if not worried.

Slowly he turned to face forward, the smile turning a little more natural as he did so; though it definitely wasn’t genuine. He wasn’t exactly shrugging off his own feelings on the entire matter, but he figured that after all that’d just happened it’d be better if he addressed it later. Plus, interest that went a little farther beyond than just letting it happen had been piqued. “Right,” he repeated, seemingly unbothered. “Let’s see where that cabbage-for-head went!”

It hadn’t taken too long for the pair to finding the wandering thief, mostly because Wes’s attention tended to gravitate over to the dancing throngs. As much as he’d put off the need to dance, the beats continued to be infectious and that anxiousness that called him to bop around thrummed in his chest along with the bass. “Actually,” Wes turned to Kiigan before they got any closer. “Just wait ‘ere a sec, ‘kay?” Shaking his shoulders slightly, the redhead wormed himself out of the angel’s grasp with a bright smile. Maybe they could surprise her. Considering how energetic Emi was the prospect seemed kinda fun. “Trust me,” he winked up at him. “I have an idea.”

He walked backwards away from him for a few seconds, pointing at his blue eyes with two fingers which then pointed back at Kiigan—a playful yet silent ‘watchin’ you’ being shot at him—before turning to bound off after Emi.

Her back had been turned to them both and he sneaked up behind her with a soft “Boo! Guess who?” being cooed into her ear. Sure, he probably risked a punch but startling her could be fun, too! Quickly he stepped in front stop her from turning. “Y’know, I think I got bit antsy back there—the whole moon thing and all that,” he gestured up into the sky. Really, he wasn’t lying about the double moons creeping him the hell out to begin with but that was besides the point. “Anyways, you’d never guess what happened.” Wes spoke as though he was just told a good piece of gossip, his voice emphasizing every word. “I was walkin’ down the beach thinkin’: man, if this ain’t some world-ending omen I dunno what is, right?” His hands came up then and without asking gently fixed the remaining flower he’d gotten off Kiigan’s head onto her ear as well. An orange one this time; an exact partner to the other. Really, he wasn’t letting her talk, much less react to anything he was saying.

Although he was dramatizing quite a bit, his eyes did flick to whatever she had in her hand and a split-second decision to pilfer a rather fruity-looking cocktail was made.

“Aha! Bella!” exclaiming suddenly, the overly animated man grabbed his chest dramatically as thought he’d been shot in the heart only to clasp her shoulders and leaned in close, the climax of his story interrupted but still rising nonetheless. “So I end up kicking some sand around, all wishy-washy and stuff, when out of the corner of my eye I see…” he leaned in a little more and snaked his way around her, hands pulling her closer so that her back bumped against his chest and he could whisper in her ear. “The weirdest thing…” He turned Emi around, facing where Kiigan was standing just a small distance away, all the while sneakily grasping her drink. “Look.”

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

“Boo! Guess who?”

"HAIE?!" A high-pitched squeal of surprise that might've been a combined slur of the Hah-Hey-Ee words together escaped the drunk that was far too immersed in the loud music some people were dancing to, one that seemed mixed with some sort of otherworlder dance that she hadn't seen before. Although her reaction time was no longer fast enough for the street-wise survivor to quickly defend herself due to the large amount of alcohol she consumed in such a short period of time, a balled-up fist of her free hand was still raised in the air as the drunk Emi swerved in step to defend herself somehow. Yet when her dark green orbs locked onto Wes, only just processing that he quickly moved in front of her, her balled fist simply turned to an open palm as it clasped his shoulder with a bright smile that reached her eyes.  "Ahah! Hi Wes!" Emi couldn't help but laugh at her own reaction. It was pretty funny. Sure, she'd done that plenty of times to others, including Pomme, but she wasn't used to getting the taste of her own medicine by having someone to do the same in return; not for a long time at least.

“Y’know, I think I got bit antsy back there—the whole moon thing and all that,”

"Hah..Yeaaah..it's pretty rare!" Emi commented lowly in understanding seconds before she brought the straw to her lips to sip on her fruity alcoholic drink nonchalantly.  The mention of the rare phenomenon only made her think about that dumb lunar cleansing thing again, which led her to drink more of her second round of the Avalon Island Iced Tea in an effort to forget about the whole thing. Her emerald greens next flickered over at the double moons to eye it only once more, then decided to keep her eyes focused back down on the pretty cerulean hues of the ginger-haired mafioso, which glimmered as spoke so flamboyantly to her. It was captivating the way he began his story; his intriguing hand gestures and the charming intonations of his accent as he spoke were almost as if he were leading her in a dance that swayed any way he willed her to be with just his words alone.

“Anyways, you’d never guess what happened.”

"What happened?!" The giggling, intoxicated Emi couldn't help but lean forward a little with interest, fully absorbed in the story. The ginger otherworlder's accent continued to sound adorable enough to spread an admiring smile at the ends of her lips, her intoxicated brain already fluttering away from being able to grasp any meaning of his words, and merely listening to the delightful melody of his accent playing in her ear; he might as well have been humming at this point.  The smile on her lips suddenly decreased into a kind of childish awe that let a soft gasp escape the parting of her lips upon seeing an orange flower being brought up to her ear. She brought her free hand up to let her fingertips touch the soft petals of the flower in her hair, which felt softer than ever in the drunk girl's mind. Upon hearing his words in that Italian language of his, she watched as he dramatically pressed a hand to his chest much like pomme would when something was romantic or dramatic. Maybe the word Bella actually meant a compliment this time, although it would be pretty funny if it weren't and he made her only think it was.   Still, her parting lips tilted upwards with a grateful smile that reached her eyes. The comedic thief didn't take its meaning personally, of course, but it was still nice that he had taken the time to pick it out either way, especially when it happened to be one of her favorite colors.  It was only then that she really captured the meaning of his words earlier, now that they were finally able to sink into her alcohol-filled brain: Wait. Did he just say end of the world?

A hiccup that squeaked out from her parted lips was the drunken criminal's only response to such an intense statement. She quirked a slender brow over one of her large emerald eyes, blinking in dazed bewilderment as Wesley placed his hands on her shoulders and leaned forward. The drunk, yet curious girl leaned forward, too, although her dark greens were accidentally drawn to his lips as he spoke to her in her attempts to keep up with the story. As soon as Wesley mentioned seeing something though, she gazed up into his baby blues with intrigue and felt him subtly turn her as he continued to perform the dance of his words. Without realizing, the drunk girl craned her neck with the subtlest tilt towards the side that Wesley's whispered in her ear, resting her head on him as if she wanted to keep the sensation of his accent tickling her ears. "Hnn.." Although she tried to make it sound like it was a pensive noise that attempted to solve the mystery of what he saw, the soft exhale left her lips as the intoxicated girl relished in the comfortable sensation of his chest with his arms wrapped around her. "Mmhm..?" Came the soft reply of the drunk thief through an exhale that left her lips, "What was it?" She asked a little more clearly, giggling at how he was letting his words dangle a bit for suspense, like all performers in the circus loved to do. Being the audience for once was always so different in an exciting way. "C'mon, tellll!" The intoxicated trickster pleaded softly with a playful smile as he turned her once more, though her head remained tilted to focus on the ginger mafioso that held her from behind.

“Look.”

"Kiigan?" Emi murmured in disbelief once Wesley helped her turn her attention over to the tall bluette further away. It was almost as if she didn't think he was going to show up by the way her expression suddenly lit up with a grand smile that made her eyes crease almost closed. "Kiiiiii!! It was perhaps a good thing that the mafioso had pinched her drink away from her hands for the drunk thief barely took a second thought when she bolted towards the bluette, easily securing it from letting the drink fall and spilling onto the sandy ground. Emi didn't think about anything in fact, not even the lack of support in her bikini top that caused her ample chest to bounce all too freely while the cushion that hugged her voluptuous curves, from the small love handles down to her thighs, produced a light jiggle against the muscles of her body to her every quick step towards the bluette.

"You're heeeerrrreeeee!!!" The multicolored rogue chirped excitedly just before impulsively jumping onto him with every intention of wanting to do a piggy back ride, except she did not think ahead enough to jump on him from behind; the lack of planning and coordination of her drunken state causing her to instead jump in front of him and greatly miscalculating how high resulted in her body embracing his head instead. Unbothered that her chest was on his face, the drunk stupidly gave into her desires of comfort and rested her head on top of his head. "Heh. Blue grass..." She mused at the way his hair felt like to her before finally taking in the scent of his hair.  "You smell like handsome..!" The drunk Emi stupidly whispered in a serene tone of voice as her finger sifted into his spiked blue hair with an enchanted smile drawing along her lips, far too lost in discerning the scent to explain further; almost as if it were obvious what 'handsome' smelled like. It was hard for the rogue to pinpoint exactly where she'd experienced this mysterious combination of smells, which was perhaps why it made it alluring. For Emi, it smelled of campfires that would keep the homeless girl warm during cold nights, but she imagined that perhaps it was a lot like the smell of a warm fireplace in a home, right next to a door that opened up to a beautiful garden in a greenhouse room encased by glass windows all around. It was funny because that smelled like a home she'd never had nor been to before, but she decided that maybe one day she'll have her own home just like this.

 A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance } Empty Re: A Marvelous Night for a { Moondance }

Post by Kiigan Tue Feb 15, 2022 1:31 am

Kiigan spent the minutes after Wes's departure just idly swaying to the strange music, pale red hues sliding around to watch the lights flashing and people dancing with a perfectly content expression. The angel wasn't exactly smiling, but his scowl had faded into a pleasant, neutral line. Normally he would have been much more apprehensive and skeptical since this was his first time to one of the islands known to have a higher concentration of otherworlders and otherworlder things, but... well, all that was out the window as soon as the pollen hit his sinuses. Nothing could bother him now. That was for tomorrow Kiigan.

For today Kiigan, there was booze and food and dancing and-- "You're heeeerrrreeeee!!!"

Before he could really prepare, he looked back ahead just in time to see the glory. All of it. The bouncing and the jiggling. Now that broke the neutral line into a small smile. And then she was hugging his face.

He barely moved a step back as she leaped high on his body. He was built like a tree, so it would take him being way more off guard or a force stronger than this to topple him. Instead, his arms instinctively reached up, one tucking under her whole-satisfying-handful rear and the other upon her back to make sure she didn't tip backwards.

He held her there for a second or two, processing the melons smushed into his face, her curves pressed against his torso, and the words she was saying, though it got a bit lost in the euphoria of her simply playing with his hair. First Wes, then Emi, both in one day did one of the things he dearly adored. Having his hair messed with was just one of those sacred things that meant a lot to him, to the point that he never asked anyone to do it. He wanted people to do it on their own so he knew it was real and that they wouldn't mind in the future.

So Kii, feeling fantastic, did what any hot-blooded man would do when faced (literally) with boobs. Don't mind if I do! With a "Mm-mmph mmm," which was him saying "hello, emi", he inhaled, pressed his face a bit extra into the soft cleavage, and motorboated the cabbage-head's chest as if it'd been offered to him as a gift.

As he did so, in front of Fleuve'ir and everyone, he walked forward in the direction Emi had come from. Occasionally he bumped a shoulder or his face-hugger's back into some random partier, but with a hum of acknowledgment but no intention of stopping what he was doing, he moved on. But all good things must come to an end, and with fond memories, Kiigan pulled his face out of her boobs as much as he could considering her position and looked around until he saw Wes pretty close by. along with some food and drinks. Perfect!

"Yo, boss," he greeted, the words understated but the smile on his face pretty blatant and pleased. The ill-timed joke and all his family issues and literally anything that had bothered him ever was forgotten, leaving a light and happy young man sporting expressions the two had never seen on him. It was probably pretty weird, but Kii had no clue.

Plopping down onto the picnic table bench near what he assumed was Emi's food (and there were several plates of it ranging from appetizer to dessert), he wrangled his little lime monkey off of his face and into his lap, content to sit there like that while he pulled her half-finished plate closer to examine what was on it. Fish. Even all floomed up, his new aversion to his former dietary staple remained, curse the pocket salmon and the following aquatic pranks. However, there was some nice spinach in the sauce, and some roasted potatoes with herbs and butter, which he plucked up with his free hand and popped into his mouth before looking for and snatching his own Avalon Island Iced Tea from a waiter doling them out. He made quick work of the drink, as if he hadn't had anything to drink all day.

"Enjoying the party so far?" Kiigan asked amicably, looking between Emi and Wes. He'd never been to a human moondance before. Seemed like a regular fancy party but with more skin and paint.
