joker's always wild
but I just can't smile without you
The cold, sea salt breeze that wafted in the air and billowed through the sail was always something that Emi enjoyed the most whenever she was close to the water. It was like the wind was playing with her hair, which made it feel so relaxing. Having a shipmate to help her take the wheel from time to time was relieving, and just having someone to make conversation for a change while out at sea only added fun to her relaxation. For some reason, Theo struck her as someone who was a lot like her. He didn't have to reveal much about himself for her to feel that way; she just felt like he was someone that belonged to her circus family, if only Emi trusted people to be that close at least. It wasn't him though, not even her circus family knew her secrets - and she was fine with that. They both seemed to understand and respect each other mutually in that regard.
"Arrrgh, Emiiii! Land ahoy, matey!"
"Heehehee!" Although she didn't really get the humorous reference, never being around pirates that talked like that before in Vyldermire, it didn't stop Emi from giggling at the funny way Theo spoke. Otherworlders were always fun like that; you could never know when they'd drop a random reference from their world, just like Wesley and his otherworlder Italian. Otherworlder pirates sure had an interesting way of speaking. She'd have to remember to ask Wesley one day if he knew about otherworlder pirates in his world after returning back to Engloria to report for duty.
While she attended to the rigging of the sail to adjust to the change of wind direction and wind speed, the thief in orange and green finally took a second for the dark emerald jewels in her large orbs to take in the bleak atmosphere of the Obsidian Isles. Not counting the Eldritch darkness that blanketed the land in eternal night, the comedic mage didn't need any sharp senses to feel the palpable shroud of ominous energy that emanated from those perilous spires, which was akin to the feeling of a thick fog they just cut through. Of all the places to be, this human mage felt that she was exactly where she needed to be! The adrenaline rush of such a dangerous place was already starting to heighten, especially at the prospect of obtaining treasure.
Emi wasn't one to dwell on negative energy of the area either, her smile brightening up even more as she focused her thoughts on idle talk to distract Theo's thoughts from concentrating too much on how precarious this treasure hunt seemed. "Say, matey.." She used his words humorously with an inquisitive smile, "Think there's a way we can get a ship like this in the sky like that skyship you told me about?" Emi had mused to Theo idly as she worked at the rigging of the sails by the change of wind direction. She couldn't help it, flying just seemed like something so freeing. She could jump off the tallest buildings and sail across the seas, but her restless heart would feel like it'd never be enough compared to the sensation of something like flying. Then again, she supposed, it'd be a pretty funny way to get shot from the sky, and it'd be as simple as shooting a carrier pigeon to intercept mail. too. Hah. Morbid humor was always funny.
"I really hope that grandpa that mugged me was right,"
"Ahaha!" Emi couldn't help but laugh as she helped secure the boat to a slab of obsidian rock, thinking of that jingly old man that ran away with his money. "Some people would say anything for a good price," The comedic thief added honestly with a shrug. She knew plenty, and she happened to be one of them just by surviving this world. "But, just in case.. catch!" With a smirk tilting one side of her lips, Emi pulled out the coin purse and let it roll over her shoulder before bumping it with her elbow for Theo to catch. While Theo had pressed for more details about the Obsidian Isles, Emi made use of herself and had left his side in that moment to steal his coin purse back. Did she feel bad for stealing from an old man? Heck no. Why did she choose now to give it back to him? Only because he mentioned it again. It made for a funnier reaction. "Don't worry, I know you won't make it easy next time!" The bad influence thief encouraged her shipmate with a wink, knowing that Theo would take all his experiences as lessons to just get better and better. Then again, it was hard to steal from a thief with a pocket dimension like Emi. Still, Emi had full faith that Theo had the makings of a great pirate or a great thief with all these experiences.
"Bountiful booty, huh?" Emi cocked a brow over at him with a curious smirk as they walked into the cave, not really understanding that terminology. That sure sounded like an interesting word for treasure. "I'm ready for anything!" The tough streetrat responded with a fist pump. Bring it on! Of course, Emi wasn't also too concerned, given that they thought ahead of time and chose the perfect time where there they wouldn't face any guards or monsters until tomorrow.
"Yaarrr, it be creepy..."
"Yarr, this place just needs a color wand!" Emi smirked at Theo by elbowing him lightly, helping him to see the creepiness of this cave in another light in efforts to help him feel better about the place. The color wand was in reference to how they first became shipmates, after all. Even Theo had to admit, colorful skulls and colorful rocks would definitely make this place look fun. She wasn't sure how those religious eldritch people really did anything in a bleak place like this. Poking her head curiously by his side when Theo peeked into that sacrifice room caused a wry smile snake crookedly across her lips as she narrowed her eyebrows over her emerald eyes. "Someone left them at the altar, alright.." Emi murmured her morbidly dark-humored joke about the sacrificial altar under her breath. The former circus clown that happened to be an adrenaline junkie ever since she left couldn't help but feel even more pumped at this death-defying prospect.
"Yo ho ho, which path shivers ye timbers, lassie-bucko?"
The thief in the orange bandana paused in step at the three tunnels they stood in front of, whipping her head quickly behind her upon perceiving something shuffle behind them, before she turned her attention back to Theo at his question. "Want some gum?" Emi pulled a piece of gum from her actual pocket to stick in her mouth after offering Theo, then chewed happily as she mulled quickly over the options as her eyes trailed between the three openings. "Hmm.." Within seconds, she pointed to the left tunnel. "I'm thinkin' we take this one.. What do you think?" She asked Theo in midst of chewing, wondering if he had a particular thought process on how he made his choices on forks on the road. "I'm gonna set a signal." The thief decided lowly, spitting out the gum that she had been chewing from her mouth onto the tip of her gloved fingers and sticking the jingly bell to it. She planned on placing it on the ground right behind them, hoping that if anything stepped on it, the jingly bell would signal it's high pitched ringing. At the very least, the tiny vibration of a stranger's footsteps would cause the tiny jingly bell to alert them of someone truly behind them.
