all these little lies

“Merda,” he cursed under his breath, eyes closed and brows furrowed deeply, as the fur-lined coat slumped onto the wooden floor in a damp, bloodied heap. The inn room the group found themselves in sported nothing but a bed, side table, and some dingy chair off to a corner. Not the best room, really, with a few cobwebs here and there and the odd creaky floorboard. Another door that lead to the bathroom was slightly off its hinges, and he had prayed to God that it had a functioning shower that wasn’t too nasty. The trio could’ve afforded something nicer, but far be it from this Savaglio to leave a bloody trail in some fancy shmancy inn. He knew better than that. He also knew visiting a doctor would be the better option as well, but old habits were hard to scrap. So shady old inn it was!

Wes sat on the edge of the bed, black long sleeve shirt sticking to his wounded skin as he slouched. It had been torn at the back, revealing a gash about the length of an axe head that bled and seeped into the surrounding material. He gave no real inclination towards the pain this time, figuring no one needed to know that both his back and leg burned like all hell. He was tough like that.

“So, how’s everyone farin’? Peachy keen, I’m assuming?” he joked, looking from Emi to Kiigan. Though he had the spirit it didn’t quite reach his face. The redhead looked about as done with life as ever. Not because of the uncomfortable sensations, but because next time he’d be sure to bring the whole goddamn organization if he had to. Who the hell thought that many guys would show up just for some stupid logs? Religion be damned. Some people needed to get themselves a life. It also didn’t help that there was the disheartening fact that his hat had sustained damage: a bullet hole perfectly aimed at its center. He shuddered, eyeing the fedora at his lap with a small frown. Another kick to the head and who knows in what other godforsaken world he’d end up in… or he could just stay dead.

That was a possibility, too.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by Kiigan Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:36 am

"Just fine, boss," Kiigan said flatly with an unbothered face, though he was quick enough to head for the rickety chair in the corner and stiffly sit. Traveling so far after he expended so much energy was already exhausting, but doing so with the kind of damage he'd sustained and all the effort it took to pretend it didn't hurt was another level of drained. Hiding a limp was pure torturous exercise in itself. Though the bit of healing offered by the priestess had slowed the bleeding, it certainly wasn't enough to have any of the three out of first aid range.

Humans and their stupid guns. The angel's hatred for the cowards' weapon flared brighter than it had before. It burned way more than a stab wound and the damage seemed more substantial. Were the bullets still in there? A tense breath exhaled from his nose as he shifted and lightly poked around the hole in his leg, deciding that there was still a ball of metal in there. Though he wasn't scowling any more than usual, his eyes were tight and his posture betrayed his discomfort.

Kiigan was left a bit peeved about the whole thing. When he'd said he wouldn't risk his life for a stupid shipment of wood for a church in a place he didn't even think it should be, he'd meant it. And while he wasn't particularly in danger of dying nor had he done what he did in the interest of the shipment or the church, he'd still gotten way more involved in the fight than he'd intended. That's where his emotions always landed him. All the aggravation over whether everyone he knew was a witch or not had him sitting in this craphole hotel, his thigh and shoulder aching and stuck to the blood-soaked fabric around them, all because he'd wanted to let off a bit of steam and leapt into a fight where they were severely outnumbered. In the moment, though, it'd been pretty thrilling. It was also a great big ego stroke that they'd come out victorious... Perhaps he'd feel better about it when the world wasn't spinning around him.

Directing his attention off of himself, he glanced between the two potential witches he was now sharing a room with. Though he was wary, even if they did prove to be Eldritch, he wasn't the type to hope bad things happened to them or wish for them to suffer. He just wished there was a bit more distance. "There might be a first aid kit around here somewhere?" he asked, taking in both of their wounds and bloody clothes with concern. It was doubtful that a place that smelled this...er, interesting would have anything but mites and roaches stocked, but even Kiigan could have moments of unwarranted optimism. He would've gotten up to check for himself instead of asking, but... he wasn't actually sure if he could.

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

The pitiful room of the dingy inn that lacked a compassionate hand and that appeared somber from the endless dusk through the windows had gotten no complaints from the poor thief that considered this a step up from the streets. Instead, the streetrat wore a smile so bright, it reached her eyes with a jovial crease of her dark green orbs as she peeled away with a smiling wince at the three layers of oversized jackets to reveal her sweater tank top, bloodied lower arm, along with her dark pants. This was better than the abandoned place that she lived in! This one came with a real bed and an actual chair! Now if it only had a shower or a bathtub-

A loud creak at the slightly unhinged door with green eyes that peered curiously into the room allowed the scrutinizing jade thief to spot the shower curtain. "Wow!!" A giddy squeak softly escaped from the gasp that fled from Emi's lips as she enthusiastically dashed into the bathroom.  To anyone else, it was a paper thin, flimsy excuse of a shower curtain; but to Emi, it was a shower curtain and it was an actual shower! This was so much more private than what she was used to! Ah, coming home after being spoiled like this was definitely not going to be something she was looking forward to!

After seconds of being alone in the bathroom, Emi tightly gripped onto each side of the porcelain sink that was showing signs of rust by the drain as the petite girl tried to catch her quivering breath by breathing in slowly, lifting her head to stare shakily at her reflection in the mirror that revealed all the fear that she had felt. The clown thief had laughed it all away earlier, but that experience was a lot worse than she had ever imagined, more than the fighting she was used to in the streets. She could have died out there, which was something she had said time and time again, but this time she really could have been left to die by the people that had given her a death wish in the first place - the same two people that were in the room with her now, who also happened to be the ones that had covered her when she was prepping the cannon. A nervous, breathless laugh escaped her lips at the irony as she turned on the faucet and cupped some water to splash onto her face, removing some of the blood splatters on her face that did not belong to her before cleaning the blood from the wound on her arm.

"Mmhm!" Emi responded to Wesley's snarky joke with a soft giggle after she came out of the bathroom in her sweater tank top and applied pressure to her wound in her lower arm with a small towel. "Gotcha covered!" She responded to Kiigan with a wink and in an instant, her hands dove into her pockets to enter her pocket dimension and pulled out bandage tape that seemed endless the more she pulled out of her pocket until she stuffed it back in once she was finished with her demonstration. Before she would take out more first aid, Emi pulled out a wine bottle from her other pocket with a grin.  "I also brought some wine to take our mind off of things..your clothes just need to do the rest," A soft giggle escaped her lips at her teasing joke that attempted to spark a reaction as she set it down on top of the dresser, although she was actually meaning for them to take off their clothes in order to tend to their wounds. "Or I can always tear at it to make some room for cleaning your wounds, if you're into that!" A playful smirk formed on her face before pulling out a small purse from her pocket to pull out a large bucket that she set on the floor and filled with unused bottles of water that she dropped inside, as well as the "free" soap packages with their hotel brands on them, which she placed on the bed.

"Can you both keep your wounded legs elevated right up here on the bed so that you won't bleed out?" Emi asked sweetly with a smile that wore some measure of concern for them, "C'mon Kiigan, bring it in, buddy! Scoot your chair right on over to the bed!" The jade haired tomboy encouraged the blue haired grump with a grin, hoping that he could at least scoot his chair close to the bed to elevate his foot on the bed. Emi then pulled out various towels from the bag, laying them on the floor and on the bed. "That's right. Take off your shoes and step right up!" Emi joked very much like a carnival barker as she sat on the edge of the bed and patted the bed for them to literally step right up by placing their feet onto the bed, "Don't be shy!"

"Looks like it's our time of the month, boys!" Emi remarked with a playful grin as she pulled out several new menstruation pads, waving one in the air at them with a snicker before rolling her eyes reassuringly, "Don't worrrrrry, I'll cover it with bandages! Your secret's safe with me! Heehee!"

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
His face shot up at the mention of wine with a soft “huh…!?” and momentarily looked at the thief like she had just unearthed the key to all his problems. However, his expression softened as she continued to pull item upon item from her pockets, faint images of old cartoons making their way across his mind. A bout of lightheadedness washed over him then. He could never stay awake during those, though at the moment it was probably the blood loss rearing its head.

Right. The blood.

He slouched deeper into the cheap mattress and winced, giving her covered wound a once-over. A light frown tugged at his lips before his attention shifted to the other person in the room. That didn’t help. Kiigan’s shirt might as well had changed colour from the wound he’d sustained. “I’ll take the wine,” he said a little too quickly, leg crying as he impulsed himself off the bed and headed towards the drawer. At least Emi came prepared which was, well, good. More than the redhead would’ve expected out of the woman he’d come to partner with in Engloria. He’d figured she’d be dead by now given everything. But to have seen her man the cannon and those weirdly deep pockets of hers while still being all smiles —his interest was a little more than piqued.

Wes wanted to see what else she could do. So despite every muscle in his body screaming at him to move and be rid of the red stuff, he held back, tightly gripping the bottle in his hand to keep himself occupied. “Well, you heard the lady. C’mon,” he urged the angel to do as told after the humorous impersonation of a carnie, some measure of concern sewn into the crease and lowering of his brow. He never particularly enjoyed being first when others were hurt, much less those that worked for him. Thus he stuck to the drawer with that same uncharacteristic slouch that made his back hurt a little less, not wanting to impose.

Emi’s remark got his attention once more. His eyes widened at the pads, gaze immediately darting over to Kiigan and then back to her, mouth opening as if he couldn’t find the words. He was actually a little taken aback by the boldness. That kind of thing wasn’t something that would be mentioned or joked about in his time. Even when the women of Porto d’Oro brought it up amongst themselves, he’d kinda just… look the other way. And he did, in that moment. “You should take care of yourself first,” he started after awkwardly clearing his throat. “We can wait.”

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by Kiigan Sun Oct 03, 2021 6:26 am

Kiigan's bone-tired eyes shifted sluggishly between the shorter pair, taking in all the chatter and activity in stony silence. There she went pulling random things out of her pockets again. At least it wasn't a smoked salmon this time, but rather, helpful things. Nothing innately witchy about that, though he was still suspicious. Sometimes it was hard to tell the difference between people with normal magic abilities and Heknys' brood.

The mention of wine piqued his interest and drew a longing glance, but not really enough to get up or ask for any. A drink would be very nice right about now. Something to take the edge off. Maybe if Wes opened it, he'd get some later, once he didn't feel like he would fall out of his seat, and once he couldn't see the discomfort in the arching of the gingersnap's back. Kiigan eyed Wes with concern, wondering if he looked as uncomfortable while also hiding the pain.

More pressingly, he was being told by both of them to take off his clothes and move his chair to prop up his leg, which he didn't have much energy for, to be honest. "What is it with you two and my clothes?" he asked, his tone flat but the dry humor was there. Initially resistant like his boss, Kii mildly nodded in agreement. "You first," he gruffed at the minty maybe-witch, unfazed by the feminine products he was being threatened with. No one he'd grown up with was particularly fussed with the body's natural processes, unlike Wes. "I hope those are the super absorbent ones with the wings. Put one on your arm."

"Then him," he nodded to Wes, making it clear that he didn't care what his boss's sensibilities were. Kiigan wasn't the type to take help until it was able to be given risk-free. While the thief might not know how head-strong he was about things, the ginger was probably well on his way to learning.

In the meantime, while Emi and hopefully Wes started to get sorted out, Kiigan pulled himself to his feet with a tense exhale. Every movement was slow and deliberate in his attempts to act like he wasn't injured. Fingertips slipped beneath the sticky red shirt and pulled up, every muscle in his torso rippling as white-hot agony screamed from his shoulder. Other than the squinting of his eyes and the hard-set of his jaw, he peeled the shirt off like he normally would and tossed it into the corner with a sigh. The pants were a little easier initially, at least until he had to slowly pry the stiff fabric from the wound in his thigh. A quiet grunt left his lips as damaged flesh tugged and pulled with the jean, but he didn't stop until it was free and the garment was around his ankles. With a very small wobble, he stepped out and stooped to pick them up so he could retrieve the pack of cigarettes from his back pocket. Once he was standing again, unashamed of being in just his black boxer briefs, he placed one of the smoke sticks between his lips and pressed a scorching fingertip to it to light it. Lighting a second one off of his own, he handed it over to Wes, whom he couldn't help but eyeball again with worry.

By the time he dragged his chair closer to the bed and plopped back down into it, he was pale and slicked with shimmery red blood and cold sweat. Still, he seemed more at ease as he puffed on the cigarette, using his hands to help prop his leg up on the mattress near where Emi was seated. Did he want to be so close to her? Not at the moment. They'd certainly been much closer in the past, but that was before. It was a shame that someone with a body like hers had to be...well...her. "If you have any tampons, I could just jam those in the holes..."

With a smirk tilting in amusement at one end of her lips, the jeweled green eyes of the minty-haired thief watched as both of the men practically perked right up at the mention of wine, with Wesley even ambling over to fetch it himself from its place on top of the drawer. Because it spurred such a boyish reaction to the two tough men in the room, it made it even more endearing to watch. Emi wasn't even going to mention that the stolen wine wasn't initially meant to be shared with the two that had threatened her life. That was supposed to be her celebratory wine if she had managed to survive, but they deserved it given what they've been through. For now.

"What is it with you two and my clothes?"

"Heeheeheehee!" Covering her lips with a hand, Emi muffled her giggling at what sounded like Kiigan's dry humor. He does have a sense of humor! Never one to question a joke, the clown princess of crime glimpsed over at Wesley with a raise of an eyebrow and a confused smile, shrugging with a hand palm side up to gesture Kiigan as she silently asked Wesley if he knew what Kiigan was talking about.

"I hope those are the super absorbent ones with the wings. Put one on your arm."

"Aren't they the best!?" Intrigued at Kiigan's knowledge and preference to mensturation pads, the comedic thief leaned forward from her seated position to Kiigan's direction with a gleeful grin, enthusiasm bubbling up in delight. At their unanimous agreement for her to tend to herself first, the minty-haired mage blinked in surprise and her smile began to dissipate as her green orbs darted from Wesley to Kiigan.  These two were barely on the brink of consciousness with far more serious wounds, yet they insisted that she would be first. Emi would've blushed at the unexpected, surprisingly civil gesture that she wasn't used to, but the thief from the streets wasn't born yesterday. Maybe they just wanted to see what she could do first. That's okay.

"Oh..heh..alright..."  Emi smiled softly with a light shrug in agreement while unraveling the towel that she had wound tightly to apply pressure on her graze wound. With a tug of the bottom of her tank top shirt, she pulled out her stolen sewing kit, which she had regarded quietly with a reminiscent smile, particularly with the thimble she had stolen from Pomme. Emi next put all the years of Pomme's lessons into practice after sterilizing the needle and thread with mouthwash, successfully sewing her wound closed. "FFFUCKING peppermint!..AHhh-hah! Ssst..Too bad it wasn't a lance.. I would've used spearmint! Pfft! Hahaha!" Bearing a broad grin that revealed a wince at the pain, Emi burst out laughing at her own dark humor. Whenever she laughed, it always made the pain feel less. "Found this moisturizer in Rivengate one winter.. no idea what it's made of, but it'll keep this from itching!" Dappling onto the wound a bit of petroleum jelly moisturizer that she had pulled out from the top of her tank top shirt, she opened and placed the winged superabsorbent pad atop of her wound and then bandaged on top of it using the bandage strips that were continuously pulled from her pockets.

"Who says I can't do both?" Challenged the minty haired thief as her voice lowered to sultry tone before biting the end of the cut bandage strip to bind her bandaged arm securely, given that she couldn't use her other hand to tie the knot that she added to apply pressure onto the wound.  Lowering her eyelids half-way over her green orbs beneath her narrowing eyebrows, she smirked playfully as her eyes flickered between the two men without explaining as to whether it was an innuendo. "..I have two sponges,"  Emi clarified with a teasing smile as she held up the two indicated sponges, ensuring that she meant that she can wash the wounds of both of the men easily. Her eyes of dark green seemed to focus on Wesley gripping tightly on the bottle before peering down at his calf that was still bleeding because it was not elevated.  The exact opposite of what she had asked him to do. Heaving a frustrated sigh, she grabbed a piece of gum from her actual pocket and jammed it in her mouth to vigorously chew with a little more of a grind of her teeth as seen by the movement of her cheeks. "C'mon, Wesley.. don't be-!"

It was in that moment when Kiigan began stripping himself of all of his clothing, and after taking a double-take to notice the glorious revelation of the bluette's strong build as he lit a cigarette, all of her words she had meant to say to Wesley had been forgotten. All she could do was stupidly chew on the gum, blowing a bubble at her lips as her eyes took in the view of his black boxer briefs, from the bulge down to the wound in his thigh. Then, as if Fleure'vir had heard her silent thoughts, Kiigan turned to give Wesley a cigarette he had lit for him.

That's when she saw it. That butt of divine proportions.

..*Pop!* A sudden, tempting bite of her bubble led to it popping, the only noise that was emitted from Emi. Tucking the gum inside of her cheek to continue softly chewing on it, the thief beamed her broad smile that demonstrated her pearly whites over at that handsome bluett; a smile that reached the crease in her eyes out of admiration while she watched him move his seat to prop his foot up on the bed, just like she had said. For the first time in a while, she actually felt listened to; it felt kinda nice.

"If you have any tampons, I could just jam those in the holes..."

"Yeah! Great idea, Kiigan!" chirped Emi encouragingly, praising the bluette for his idea. "I've got plenty!" She pulled out several tampons from her pocket dimension in her pants, holding them up in between the spaces of her fingers as if they were claws. "I'm more of a tampon girl anyways," The bold minty-haired woman answered truthfully with a shrug. Tampons were better for her to use when possible. After all, the thief had places to go, places to run.

"Ya know, Wesley..If you really want the wine.."  The playful silky tone of the minty haired girl coaxed Wesley as she got up from the bed and sashayed over to Wesley, placing her hands ontop of his hands that held the wine bottle and gently tugging back as she walked backwards, attempting to walk him over to the bed. Using her quick pick-pocket skills, she used her knee to bump up the wine underneath from his hands and swiped the wine on top to hold it hostage. "...Then get on the fucking bed," Smirking teasingly at Wesley with a narrowing of her dark emerald eyes, she hoped Wesley would comply by getting himself elevated on the bed with the reward of wine.

"As for you.." cooed Emi as she walked over and leaned over Kiigan's good shoulder, her chest pressing against his back. "You get first dibs," She smiled at him as she gestured the wine in front of him, silently thanking Kiigan for listening to her about getting his foot elevated on the bed. "But first...Think you can turn up the heat?" She added her request in her playful low voice by his ear as she extended an arm over his shoulder to reach for his hand. "Right.. here.." She added, attempting to guide his hand to the neck of the wine bottle she held with the other hand in front of him, hoping that he would use his finger as a lighter to heat the neck of the wine bottle enough for the cork to rise out of the wine bottle. The clown princess of crime knew that she should be careful around a man that could still technically kill her to fulfill her death threat, but she liked playing with fire.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by wes Thu Nov 04, 2021 1:22 am

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
His nose wrinkled in confusion at the dry-humored comment, eyes studying the air as he pondered over it briefly. Try as he might, though, only one answer seemed to make any logical sense in those few seconds: “He’s trippin’ out,” stated Wes, real insightful, offering Emi a ‘hell if I know’ shrug in response. “It’s probably the blood loss.” He shook in his head in pity. Just how much blood had Kiigan lost? Poor guy was starting to make things up.

Any other thoughts on that were halted when the conversation returned to the pads. “There’s different ones…?” spoken softly, he was a little baffled by this realization; a little embarrassed, too. Growing up how he did no one had ever taught him about these products, so he didn’t quite get what they meant by wings. Didn’t these things usually have a belt? Was Emi gonna whip out an elastic belt next? Something between a scowl and a pout formed at how easily they could talk about this stuff and because for a split second he’d stupidly imagined birds.

“Really,” the scowl-pout deepened when offered up to go next for treatment, shooting Kiigan a look. “You should go first, not me.” He stayed oddly quiet afterwards, perhaps too lightheaded and uncomfortable to want to muster up any more opposition, and opted to watch Emi instead. “Kinda makin’ me wish it’d been a lance.” Unamused didn’t begin to cover his tone at her joke. At least she’d been doing a much better job at patching herself up than making him laugh. She knew what she was she was doing, he could give her that. Now if only he could read into her weirdly teasing behavior.

“Don’t be what?” he said, head tilting with a vaguely curious look when she stopped talking midsentence. So he followed her line of sight straight over to…

…Oh.

Wes felt a tug at the corner of his mouth. He’d seen him like this before, at that alley, but back then something else had caught his undivided attention. Now, though? His eyes flicked—down, then up—as Kiigan finished undressing. Why did he have to look so… so… Fuck. Prying his gaze away momentarily, he covered the growing smirk with a fist. It grew weak, however, as the bluette approached. Kiigan was still a wounded mess, and if he was anything like himself Wes knew that he’d have to be in pain despite hiding it. Even so, he’d still taken the time to offer him a cigarette. The redhead really appreciated that, and returned the worried look with a light bow of his head and a whisper, “Grazie.” It was a small thing, but no one ever did small things for him unless asked.

The slight sparkle in the blood hadn’t been missed either. He briefly wondered if all angel blood shimmered the way his did. It looked pretty, but that didn’t take away that it was blood and blood had to be wiped away ASAP. At least the compulsion to do so could be more or less kept in check through smoking, aside from keeping busy. The bottle worked for that, too, but not for long. His hands would start missing the grip they had around it when the thief stole him from his spot at the dresser. He followed along like a limping dog on a leash only to be disappointed when his treat was taken away. “So you bribe a man to bed and just leave him hanging? Is that how you normally operate?” A chuckle. “Tease.”

“Honestly,” fingers reached for the hem of his shirt, lifting it over his head carefully. His body tensed when it dragged against the wound, a pained, shaky breath escaping him before the longsleeve hit the floor. His wavy red hair had come out lightly tousled, the cigarette hanging loosely off his lips. He looked at the pair next to him momentarily, eyebrow raising questioningly at Emi’s continuous teasing. “I dunno what you’re playing at but can ya move it along?” he continued, nodding over to Kiigan. “He’s lookin’ real pale.” Not that Wes was any better off, but he was glad he wasn’t gonna go first after all. The pants had been a pain to get off as they’d stuck to his calf. “Ah, cazzo di merda, avrei dovuto semplicemente farli a pezzi…” he rambled on more to himself than anyone in the room, stepping out of the last remaining bit of clothes and into his grey boxers with a hiss and a tremble.

Once done he set the towels on the bed as to not let it stain. The skin at his back had been split near the tangled mess that was his tattoo, dark tendrils and red liquid mixing together to form a relatively ugly image. His calf felt hot, the bullet graze having blown open the skin as well. He sat, swinging the leg over the mattress and onto the towel.

“There. Happy now?”

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by Kiigan Sun Nov 07, 2021 11:18 am

He really had lost a lot of blood, to be fair, but it was their memories that failed them in the case of the clothes. The rest of the cases, like how he was having a hard time following his boss's and the thief's conversation, was entirely on him, but he could at least take some solace in Emi having taken care of herself... and the unexpected smoosh of her boobs against his shoulder as she rewarded him with the booze Wes had been cuddling. This was the sexiest way he'd ever been handed a wine bottle. No amount of blood loss and exhaustion could turn off the hormones... okay that wasn't true but he hadn't hit that point yet. "How hot do you want it, Emi?" he asked, turning his dazed eyes on her with a slow blink as he left the innuendo to wallow in the murky void of intentional or not. His signature frown turned up at one corner into something closer to a smirk as he looked away to aim the head of the bottle away from any potential victims. Without waiting for an answer, the inside of his hand started to glow against the bottle, heating it until the cork suddenly popped out on its own and shot across the room.

Oddly enough, the noise actually made him flinch and nearly drop his cigarette, bringing the noises of gunfire and the searing heat of bullets through his flesh back to the front of his mind. With a little shake of his head, potentially bonking into Emi if she was still there, he tucked the smoke stick behind an ear and quickly pulled the bottle to his lips for a deep swig.

A swig he choked on.

First of all, he'd caught himself staring at Wes as he undressed. Always with the suits, he'd honestly hardly thought about what was under it other than nondescript male. A flat washboard or something. But, for lack of a better term and ignoring all the damage for a second, he was just as cute as his face and it was almost annoying. Why he hadn't been expecting that was something he'd never understand, but as his sluggish brain slithered on to the wounds themselves, his impressed brow lift and ogle turned into more intense concern.

"Hhrk, coff, hhhak.. oi, oi, what's all that?" he sputtered like a car getting gassed after idling too long. Kiigan meant multiple things at once, though. The wounds, the tattoo, the eldritch speak. The wounds looked even worse than he thought without the layers of black fabric hiding them. Fleuve'ir's wavy ponytail, that ax wound must hurt like the void! Poor Wes... Then there was the tattoo he wasn't expecting, and it looked... well, it didn't look clean and tribal like the one on his arm and shoulder. Lastly, there was that witch demon tongue again. He'd meant to be more emphatic in insisting Wes be cared for first, despite Emi's claim to be able to do both, but honestly, the angel's brain was overwhelmed. A triple whammy to a man who had lost more blood than one should probably still be conscious through just skipped over that and onto something ballooning panic in his chest.

"That language from earlier today again! Is it a spell? I thought you didn't have any magic. Are you a witch, too, boss?" the bluette blurted, expression pensive and almost betrayed. There were so many questions he'd never gotten the chance to ask, like about his contract and the magic tattoo and how he passed out afterward, about the encantation-sounding words spoken before the attackers struck the lumber shipment. His boss showed literally no other signs of being a witch and generally operated like a human warrior other than the tattoo thing and the weird talk!

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

"Ahahaha!" Emi laughed humorously at Wesley's criticizing joke after hearing the joke she made while stitching her graze wound on her arm. "Ya know, I kinda wish it was!" The former clown easily dismissed criticisms and had no problem laughing at her own expense. "Then I'd tell him: ..It was love at first  lance!" The thief breathed a soft, wistful tone from her lips that curved into an admiring smile so well, it was almost as if she were fawning over the man of her dreams. Emi then turned her attention over to him with his eyebrows narrowing whilst bearing a knowing smirk before placing a hand over her lips to stifle a giggle at her own pun that she made against his joke, but mostly just laughing at the fact that he had to comment about her joke as if she had intended to make him laugh. Yeah right. Didn't he realize that she was just making herself laugh so that she wouldn't feel the pain of her needle? Sometimes you just gotta make yourself laugh, especially given that screaming in pain at an inn in Eldritch territory sounded a little suspicious, at least with blood being involved. Still, she'd be lying if she didn't like that he teased her back.

“So you bribe a man to bed and just leave him hanging? Is that how you normally operate? Tease.”

"Hah! Got ya on the bed, didn't I?" The jade-haired thief in the tank top sweater shrugged her bare shoulders with a playful smirk at Wesley's humorous comment. So what if she was a tease? She got the end result she wanted, so she'd say it was a job fucking well done in her book. The narrowing of her eyes along with that daring smirk on her countenance was practically ready to shove him on the bed if he didn't take off his clothes or sit down in that moment. He can just try it; the chaotic, tough woman would carelessly not take his pain into consideration given that he seemed like he wasn't taking the thought of him bleeding to death into consideration either. Oh well. It's for his own good.

"How hot do you want it, Emi?"

Kiigan's half-lidded scarlet gaze into Emi's emerald eyes as his low voice flirtatiously teased her back caused the beginnings of a light rose color to tint her cheeks against her will, not being able to help that coy giggle and the adoring smile she wore at that smirk that tugged his lips. Unfortunately, the petite thief was far too caught off guard to come up with a reply, or maybe she was far too focused on that attractive smirk of his that she had never seen before.  The jade petite bit her lower lip to maintain a level of self-control and succumbed to the land of speechlessness while the cork popped out of the wine bottle and shot across the room, not daring to tear her green eyes away from that smirk on those tempting lips until she eventually lifted her gaze back on those scarlet orbs. For the trickster mage, Kiigan's flirtatious tease was well-played, and she admired that.

“I dunno what you’re playing at but can ya move it along? He’s lookin’ real pale.”

Before she parted her lips to say anything in response to Kii, if escaping from the land of speechless were to be a possibility, a whip of Emi's head caused her layered pale green hair to flick in the air when she gave Wesley a look with green eyes that flashed annoyance. Her facade slipped and she actually crinkled her nose as she was prepared to instantly retort, but her expression instantly changed to one of awe at Wesley's handsome body that she took a second to take in now that he was uncovered after he took off his shirt. As her eyes trailed over to the wounds though, the expression just as quickly returned to one of concern. "..Well, he wouldn't be if you just let me do you guys first or if you didn't take so damn long to get on the fucking bed!" The petite mage finally retorted in a huff, although her expression softened again with concern when he painfully began to peel off his pants. She was quietly noticing his curious tattoo when he had his back turned before blinking inquisitively upon hearing Wesley speak an intriguing, unfamiliar language that made Kii cough up the wine he was drinking. Emi glimpsed over Kii to ensure that he was okay then returned her attention over to Wesley again while she absent-mindedly rubbed the handsome bluette's bare back gently to help with the coughing. Although she smirked in amusement, she didn't remark on the witch comment. Not this time. "He's an otherworlder..!" She insightfully guessed rather enthusiastically in response to Kiigan while maintaining her fascinated gaze on Wesley, "..Aren't you?" Despite the inquiry, her tone was so full of aplomb that she wasn't really asking. She had given Wesley the benefit of the doubt on his choice of clothes due to many Vyldermireans finding otherworlder clothing interesting, including herself and Pomme; however, she hadn't heard that language in her travels. Still, she asked just in case she was wrong. After all, the comedic mage didn't know much about spells except the basics and her own.

“There. Happy now?”

It was truly a wonder how Emi kept a smile on her face despite having every reason to roll her eyes at Wesley's comment given how long it took for him to finally listen and take his clothes off. Of course, she wasn't one to talk given how stubborn she was, but Emi found it easier to ignore that. "Hmm, now that you mention it...!" Emi mused while feigning a thoughtful smile on her lips that she pressed a finger to, pretending to consider if she truly was happy now.  Suddenly, the tough girl demonstrated her true strength and inner annoyance when she aggressively grabbed Wesley's knees and pulled his entire body to have him slide towards the side of the bed where Kii propped his leg up. Emi narrowed her eyebrows down at Wesley, drawing a smirk as if she had taken delight in engaging him with rough play, careless as to whether it hurt him in the process. "Why don't you ask me when I'm done?" Her tone darkened to her true sultry voice behind her facade.  Even if it sounded like an innuendo, it was actually far more innocuous in nature. She truly wouldn't be happy if she failed to help them in the end.

With a tug of her pockets, she pulled out a rope that almost seemed to last for a few feet before it finally ended. It wasn't long by much, but it was certainly long enough to tie one side of her hammock to a tree. Given that she was counting on sleeping in a sleeping bag, she only brought one rope in hopes of tying her tent or her food to a tree. It was with this rope, her only rope, that she tied both of the men's wounded legs together and easily made a tourniquet for both of them at the same time in hopes to stop the bleeding in their legs. That was the reason she had been waiting on Wesley. The pressure was bound to cause discomfort or pain for the both of them, but she'd rather that than allowing their serious wounds to bleed any longer. In a swift, fluid motion, she used the towels and the separate sponges and hotel bars of soap to wash each of their wounds using the water bottles in the buckets. After making a tourniquet with the towel for Kiigan's arm, she wrapped Wesley's torso with another towel and knotted it, expecting that added pressure to stop the bleeding. Kiigan's idea of packing the wounds with tampons was turning out to be a good idea.

"Thanks by the way, for backing me up out there.. I almost thought - " Emi began as she tamponed their bleeding and began to stitch their wounds. She faltered inexplicably for a moment with what almost sounded like a soft, nervous laugh, before shrugging it off without any further explanation, "I don't think I would've made it out there if it weren't for you two.." She looked up into Kiigan's scarlet eyes sincerely, "I didn't expect either of you to do that.." She clarified as she glanced over at Wesley's blue eyes. "...Shit, Kiigan.. I think the bullet is still in there!" The tough thief blurted impulsively when she took a double-take at the shoulder wound and noticed the bullet lodged deep inside. Moment ruined.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by wes Thu Feb 03, 2022 5:15 pm

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
“Yeah yeah, I know…” That shit-eating grin he wore when he knew he was being annoying slowly died, his eyes closing as Emi went off about him not having been in bed sooner. He didn’t sound dismissive, just kinda tired by the way his voice trailed off quietly. Doing so felt a little bit relieving. He was kinda tuckered out, but even that didn’t stop his fingers from anxiously tapping against his bare thigh.

Kiigan choked, and he was startled to attention.

“What’s all what?” spoken quietly, the choking noises practically drowned him out. Were the wounds really that bad it’d earn him a reaction like that? He hadn’t checked them yet. Well, it wasn’t like he could really look at the one on his back, but he did peek at his own leg out of curiosity. But Kiigan continued and, for a second, he seemed visibly confused. From being questioned to his language, to being assumed a witch, he was left with his mouth hanging slightly open as though he was trying to decipher something. It wasn’t until Emi chimed in that he mentally slapped himself.

Otherworlder. Right. Somehow he figured the angel would’ve realized by now. It’s not like Wes tried too hard to conceal it. Really, he’d stopped trying long ago. Maybe Kiigan was too busy to pay attention again? Like with the poker?

“I am,” he nodded, speaking with the confidence of someone who took pride in the title. “Never been anything else.” A lazy smile finally graced his features at how perceptive the cabbage head was. He liked that, he had to admit. Hopefully it would also provide somewhat of answer to Kiigan. “…Is that a problem?” The question was just a little bit curious as he looked between the two for a reaction. Emi didn’t seem all too bothered by the fact to begin with which, in a sense, was a relief. But considering the witch comment and how betrayed the bluette looked he wasn’t too sure what would go on in that big blueberry brain of his. Racist or endearingly naïve? Could be both?

Regardless, some people just didn’t’ like Otherworlders plain and simple. He’d been at the end of that stick one too many times to count. Now, though, things aren’t as violent or depressing as they used to be

He watched as Emi came close, the cigarette its way out of his lips as she spoke and he narrowed his gaze in amusement, completely aware of her mocking thoughtfulness. He blew smoke… only to choke on it a second later. “Hey…! HEY!” Something between a pained hiss and a cough left him, then some more coughing, when he was dragged across the bed like a cat being pulled out of a hiding place. A few tears welled up as the smoke really burned his lungs, and he wasn’t sure whether to reach for his leg or reach for his back. Instead, he just opted to limply sit there, cigarette between his fingers. “You’re… You’re gonna have to remind me,” he said, blinking away the tears and a strained voice.

From then on he remained smoking, every so often a muted grunt or pained breath leaving him while remaining invested in the minty thief’s handiwork. Sure getting stitches hurt like a bitch and having wounds being fumbled with doubly so, but he wasn’t about to show much it really bothered him. Call it his ego or whatever. Either way, Emi knew what she was doing. Even with a lack of proper materials she’d managed to make do and patch the two up. In his eyes it added stock to his impression of her, one that he was particularly enjoying.

His silent musings only doubled when that shaky laugh reached his ear. It was odd, how she stuck around despite everything; not to say she wouldn’t have been scared then and possibly even now. Emi had every right to doubt them and leave. Yet she was grateful and even helped them. There was more to their characters than any of them lead on, of course, and for the mentioning all the facts would possibly make him come off much worse, if not a little hypocritical. But there was interest, and interest at times made his huge mouth a little more tolerable. “No… you didn’t have to do any of this… honestly,” he said with a light shrug, throwing back that same gratefulness with some amount of awkward sincerity.

He stood just as awkwardly, the pain and loss of blood causing his vision to blur a little more and his eyes to go wide in response, before patting Emi’s shoulder in thanks and somewhat limping a few steps behind the sitting giant. Wes eyed the wine, but considering what would be coming next, he figured Kiigan would still need it. “Let’s get this sucker out I guess. The doctor’s been a real heaven-sent but… Can she manage this, too?” He smirked—a compliment, coupled along with a playful tease at her ability. Really, he had the knowledge to do it himself but in light of his blurry vision he’d much rather it be done safely than not.

Clasping Kiigan’s shoulder, he extended a hand besides his head. “Need something to bite down on or would just a hand would do?” he offered in case the pain was too much. While he wasn’t sure if he could feasibly hold down the larger male considering how weak he was feeling, he would at least try in any case. Worse than taking out a bullet would be the job getting botched due to an uncontrolled jerk or movement, especially considering how deep it’d lodged itself.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by Kiigan Tue Feb 08, 2022 6:46 pm

An otherworlder. This flooded his brain, filling every ridge he had left in his smoothing, blood-deprived brain. Hm, how did he feel about that? He liked otherworlder fashion, and that certainly made a lot of things make a lot of sense but... otherworders were... Honestly, they were kinda on the same page as eldritch, and a lot of their stuff had been the stuff of the scary bedtime stories of his childhood. Their technology stuff had been horrific in what he remembered of the war history he was taught. Yet, somehow, this made Wes seem safe by comparison, since Kii could never fall and turn into an otherworlder. The boss wasn't a witch or a demon, just a dude from another world. Interesting. Desirable, if he could be more so. Kiigan was ever the rebellious angel, after all, from his baggy pants to his gaudy embroidered jackets. He'd silently shook his head to Wes's question, going with that it didn't bother him.

Falling predictably silent once more after that, he simply listened to Emi and Wes's back and forth while zoning out until the pain came. Then there was a symphony of restrained sounds of pain from the pair of men, both too macho to let out the internal scream. Kiigan turned his face away from the gingersnap and minthead, staring intensely at the wall in hopes of hiding his grimaces. Getting stitches always sucked, but he'd given himself quite a few. He normally hadn't lost so much blood, though.

The secret angel weakly waved a nonchalant acceptance/ don't worry about it gesture at Emi as she thanked them for having her back, meeting her eyes for a calm moment until she blurted out something about a bullet being in his shoulder. "Huh?" Jerking his head down quick enough for the whole room to tilt on its axis, he struggled to twist his neck in a way that he could get a good look. "Get it out," Kiigan urged as he stared at Emi, his voice suddenly sharp as his wits returned to him along with the adrenaline. Adrenaline probably wasn't the best thing right now, given the uptick in blood pulsing from the wound, but the tampons did their job. He hated guns and wanted no part of that human abomination in his body, and the very real fear flashed across his face as plain as day, even if it was for only a second. Pain or no pain, he wanted that ball of silver out of his flesh as quickly as possible, as if it was corrupting him more than any infection could manage, as if he didn't have to rely on a seductive thief they'd threatened to kill to take care of it. In this moment, he trusted her. As if he had any other choice.

It was probably good that Wes was behind him and holding him down like he was, the poor gingersnap. He should be resting himself, yet here he was assisting. The ensuing pain as the wad of metal was dug out of his muscles was one of the worse things he'd ever felt, worse than getting shot in the first place. Though he'd tried not to jerk and acted like he hadn't needed his boss's offered hand, soon enough he took it and held it tightly. It was like he forgot how to breathe. At one point he grabbed Emi's wrist to stop her and stared tensely at her for a long, conflicted moment before slowly releasing her to continue. Kiigan fought his ego relentlessly to appear calm and keep himself in check, but maybe he should have agreed to have something to bite, because between biting his lower lip until it bled to stifle the groans and gritting his teeth, he thought his jaw might shatter. There was nothing he could do about his body shaking, though. After raising the bottle of wine to his lips for a trembling, iron-laced gulp, the injured angel leaned his head back into Wes's middle and turned to press his face into the arm extended beside it, somehow turning a paler shade than he already was.

By the time it was over, it was a struggle for him to stay in the chair and conscious. Still, he offered the wine out to Emi in silent gratitude, though he seemed keen to keep it in his grasp and have her sip from it so he could then offer it to Wes once she was finished.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

“Let’s get this sucker out I guess. The doctor’s been a real heaven-sent but… Can she manage this, too?”

If Emi took a moment to insecurely consider the consequences of Kiigan dying in her hands, particularly with his barely conscious otherworlder coworker present to witness it, then it immediately washed away upon hearing Wesley's complimentary tease. She didn't miss the fact that she actually felt genuine trust by someone that wasn't family for the first time, particularly when Kiigan asked her to take the bullet out. She also didn't miss the fact that Wesley complimented her ability by calling her a doctor; as if she'd ever be on par with someone as professional as that, but it was still nice anyway.

Unfortunately, his comment ignited a flame inside that begged her to retort in the playful banter instead, crinkling her nose with a competitive glisten of her emerald eyes. "Hmph. Just watch me! You're about to see a real death-defying trick! Ahah-!" Emi grinned confidently, obviously including her own inappropriate joke about Kiigan being close to death. "Ahem.." Surprisingly, her laugh was cut short with a reticent smile, her countenance apologetic about her joke, for once. Sometimes she just needed to make light of something if only to make herself feel less stressed. Fortunately, this was a good kind of stress. This was the kind of stress Emi lived for, the adrenaline rush of death-defying tricks was what this circus clown was all about. Emi narrowed her eyebrows over her eyes as she eyed the wound with a smirk. She knew just what to do! In an instant, Emi pulled out a giant magnet from underneath her shirt and expertly held it right over the wound, aiming to attract the bullet to the magnet.

Yet nothing happened.

Of course, the bullet had to be lead. "..Heheh.."  The circus clown chuckled sheepishly with a broadening grin, yet not at all embarrassed by her idea not working.  "..Welp. It was worth a try! Guess we'll have to do this the hard way!" She shrugged as she tossed the magnet behind her and then proceeded to get out all the materials she needed for her surgical procedure. Using her orange bandana, she tied it around Kiigan's shoulder with a large knot to serve as a tourniquet. Along with tampons to tame the bleeding, the petite greenette used a combination of tweezers and a metal spoon after initially sanitizing them with the mouthwash to work on her removal of the bullet. Her plan was to use the tweezers to push the bullet onto the spoon in an effort to guide it out without nicking any important vessels or tissue. This worked when she had rock bullets lodged inside of her, but at least it was easier done on someone else.

Emi tried to ignore the sound of Kiigan's writhing, her countenance fully concentrated on pulling out the bullet as carefully as possible. If she were in his position, she wouldn't want to have someone's attention on her pained expressions, trying to toughen it out as much as she could. There was a moment when Kiigan grabbed her wrist during her procedure though, which caused her focused green eyes to flicker onto Kiigan with a parting of her lips. Her eyebrows tilted upwards with concern, feeling as though she was actually doing something wrong. Yet the expression he wore made her realize that it just hurt too much. "Hang in there. It's almost out," Emi reassured Kiigan, narrowing her eyebrows solemnly with a nod, hoping that he would continue to trust her. When he let go, it felt as though he continued to trust her, which energized her within. That was a good thing, because she was totally lying. It wasn't even close to coming out. If anything, it was nearly halfway there. Emi wasn't about to say as much though.  Sometimes the truth hurts. Pfft.

A wry smile formed on her lips at her dumb joke in her mind, which increased all the more when it truly did get past the half way point. Finally, when it came out and landed on the towel on the floor, Emi sighed in relief and immediately went to work to ensure that the tampons did their job in absorbing the blood before sewing up the wound. Removing her bandana from around Kiigan's shoulder, Emi used it to dab away the sweat that formed on her forehead when Kiigan passed on the wine to her. She looked at Kiigan and the wine then glanced over at Weley, wondering if he meant to pass it to him. "Oh.. thanks!" Emi chirped, half in shock, offering a small smile in thanks after taking a sip of the wine. She didn't take much, knowing that Wesley had been eyeing it for a while, and gave him the bottle. He deserved it.

Once Emi finished moistening the sewn wound with vaseline and wrapping the bandage tape around his shoulder, she left to wash the blood off her hands in the sink. Blood was nothing new to her. It might as well have been red paint on her hands with the amount of ease in which she washed them. Upon returning, the greenette took the time to put away the items on the bed so that the two men could rest on the bed. At last, Emi smiled reminiscently at the thimble she held in her hands in the middle of putting away the sewing kit. It was the one she had stolen from Pomme just before he left, thinking that he was just going to come back and ask for it. Only he never did. Still, Emi inwardly thanked her brother for helping her through this. If it weren't for him actually taking the time to teach her how to sew, she wouldn't have been able to do any of this. If she should ever see him again, she hoped to tell him that.

"Well, you guys look like you're in a pretty rough shape, so why don't you two just rest for a while? I'm just gonna grab some more food!" Emi snapped out of her pensive thoughts and waved a hand to let them rest on the bed she cleaned up. She didn’t bother to ask what they wanted; she wasn't taking requests. Although the word 'grab' would easily sound like she was casually getting food, the thief meant it quite literally, whether they knew that or not. "I'll be back!" She grinned broadly with a small wave, turning towards the door to head out of the inn room.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

xX Blood on the Inn Floor Xx

He sighed in relief when the procedure ended, not only because the bullet had been safely removed but also because his hand was getting crushed. Christ. The guy had a grip. He wasn’t sure if the blood loss made this any easier for either of them, but… He looked down at Kiigan, his hold slackening on the larger man’s hand and tension releasing from his shoulders. Kiigan didn’t look any better than when they first arrived, that was for sure. “You’re too much of a tough guy, y’know,” Wes chuckled under his breath, having noticed the chewed-up lips, and placed a comforting hand over the bluette’s forehead. It was a more lighthearted statement. Kiigan had done good, but even so he couldn’t help but frown at the sight.

The more worrying part, however, came from the burning sensation at his back. Not the wound, but the curse. An initial warning, all things considered. As though he wasn’t aware of the situation enough.

"Thanks.” With a nod of acknowledgment, he took a swig from the wine once it’d been handed over, blue eyes trailing after their unprecedented doctor with interest as she sauntered off the bathroom. Another sigh, slightly defeated this time, and pushed the bottle back to Kiigan before moving to talk into his ear. “Keep it,” he said softly, “If you can’t get yourself to bed just gimmie a moment, alright?”

While he would’ve been all for moving the big guy back to bed, while he would’ve also liked to drag himself (preferably semi-drunk) to it as well, another matter was still pressing on him entirely: the thief.

Wes moved away with about as much ease as he had before, limping over to his pants to rustle up the room key before heading to lock the door. He wasn’t quite done with their captive yet. Hell, he hadn’t expected anything to get this far when it came to the mint-haired woman, but here he was looking over his shoulder while she picked up after herself. The cigarette remained lit between his fingers.

She started making her way out, saying she'd be back.

He locked the door behind him silently.

"Somehow I doubt that,” Wes interjected not soon after, turning from the door to face her with arms crossed. He was practically blocking the way out, not that he’d be too hard to get past him at the moment. Still, he wasn’t about to just let her skip out of the place like it was nothing. Though, he had to admit, it would’ve made for an easier time. Damn him and his stupid plans.

"Listen,” Wes started, not commanding nor threatening. He sounded calm, level; though by the way his brow tightened and he rubbed the bridge of his nose it was quite clear he was tired, perhaps a little annoyed by having decided what he’d decided. But nothing was ever set it in stone, was it? “Hows about we have a talk instead? I promised you something, didn’t I? I’d see about you once everything was well and done, and now’s a good, err,” he shrugged, changing the words to make light of the situation, “bad time as any.”

By all accounts and purposes Emi had the advantage at the moment, even if she was locked in a room with two guys who’d threatened her. Both Wes and Kiigan were weak at the moment, that much was obvious. He leveled his gaze to challenge hers—business; he meant it—and gestured for her to sit. “So, whaddaya say?”

"Somehow I doubt that,”

How quickly the bright grin on the thief's countenance receded to a wry smile as her eyelids lowered half-mast with an eyebrow raised in such a sardonic manner. She eyed the door with a narrowing of her eyebrows like it was an unspoken challenge before her green eyes flickered back onto Wesley's tired gaze. "Hmph," While she'd never admit that Wesley had guessed her plans of escaping from being potentially killed now that they were equal again after saving each other, Emi did huff as if she was insulted that he'd doubt her anyways. With her fists planted on her hips, she cocked her head with a reluctantly attentive expression that decided to hear him out, her large emerald orbs following his weak trudge towards the edge of the bed as he spoke.

"And I thought you had conveniently forgotten," Emi remarked as soon as he finished with her tone of voice lowered to its sultry timbre. The smirk that tilted the end of her lips indicated that she was mildly impressed that he was still interested in having her work for her. She was all pumped for the job initially, but she figured he'd conveniently forgotten about it when it wasn't mentioned since they entered the mission. Ever since she left the circus,  Betrayal became a familiar constant in her life; she was used to men like him that often go back on their word. It was interesting to see that it was not the case... so far, anyway. Still, this was the best opportunity to leave while she still had a chance.

The comedic mage remained standing there, mulling on his words for a minute. With Wesley on the bed, she could still take this opportunity to leave now that they were both incapable of keeping up with her running. She wouldn't have to pay back a loan if they couldn't find her, right? Sure, she'd have to spend her life always looking over her shoulder, but how was that much different than how her life had already been as a thief? The prospect of a life on the run always thrilled the adrenaline-loving thief. Then again, it might be hard having her dream job and her dream home after this. They'd easily find her, and if they did happen to catch her, they would most likely finish the job next time; that death threat would no longer be just a threat.

The petite greenette wordlessly ambled over to the edge of the bed, her green eyes fixed onto Wesley's blue ones as she sat at the edge of the bed and let the tips of her fingers glide across the top his hand. However, just as she lowered her hand to nestle it on top of his, the thief used her two fingers to pull the cigarette away from his fingers before bringing her hand up to let the lit cigarette enter her lips. After she inhaled, she felt the smoke billow and curl against the small opening of her lips with a soft exhale. When she had nothing to eat to calm herself down, a cigarette tended to be the only remaining thing that could calm her. The streetrat tended to pick and choose, however; cigarettes were hard to come by and food tended to be a lot more filling than cigarettes. She wasn't completely lying after all; part of her escape plan did include food. She needed something to relax her after that surgery that she had never done on someone else before, particularly with people that had threatened to kill her and probably would have if she had botched up the surgery that lead to Kiigan's death. Emi inhaled once more, closing her eyes as she mentally transported to a place where that familiar smell came from. The circus, most likely..

"...Fine, I'm listening.." Emi spoke after a relenting sigh allowed the smoke to escape the small parting of her lips. Maybe this job wouldn't be so bad. It wouldn't hurt to at least hear what the job offer had to entail, right? "But I have questions.."  She added softly, then opened up with the flutter of her long lashes as her large green orbs met his blue-eyed gaze once more. "Aside from paying you back, what do you want from me?" Emi initiated the first question cooly with a raise of an eyebrow. What was in it for him? "What exactly will you have me do?" She asked curiously, drawing from previous knowledge of her past. Let's just say she was learning from her mistakes. Along with her low, velveted voice, her demeanor appeared serious, with a small smirk of gratification at the corner of her lips as she held the cigarette out for him to take back if he wanted. She needed that more than she let on, more than he'd know.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
He’d been straining himself just ambling around wounded. Now that he could finally relax or, at least, relax as much as he could when he had her on his list of priorities. It made for deeper pains and more discomfort, more so when the curse continued to itch and burn and he wanted rip off his skin. Certainly, it wasn’t the first time he’d taken care of something in less than appropriate circumstances, as semi-humorous as the present predicament was.

Perhaps that’s why, when that sensuality he’d gotten acquainted himself with returned to the scene, his sight only flicked between the touch and her, following her actions with calm collection. However, his seemingly unbothered expression fell a little flat when his cigarette was swiped away, his mouth twisting in mild annoyance. Sexy— annoyingly so. He hadn’t pegged her as the smoking type, either. Surprise surprise.

Still, Emi was complacent enough at the moment. And he’d barely opened his mouth before she’d started with the questions. “Fair enough,” he muttered, his face unchanging if not for the fleeing annoyance. Questions were expected and he figured the initiative added to her sense of self-preservation. Emi wasn’t stupid, that much was clear despite her deplorable escape plan… not that much was holding her back; the consequences had been laid from the start.

“Things a little more different than today—” he said, gently pushing the offer to return the cigarette away with his knuckles even if addiction prodded him to take it. “Keep it.” He could play nice regardless of his own needs. From the look she gave him, and everything she’d been forcibly placed under, he could logically conjure up her sentiment even when bits of a distinct lack of sympathy started rearing its ugly head.

She was nothing of his… yet. So he felt very little, and what little he did feel came when he looked into her emerald hues and caught a familiar image that made his head ache; though he largely contributed it to keeping himself attentive when his body pleaded for rest. The frown wasn’t leaving any time soon, apparently.

“For starters, most of the things you’ll be doin’ are gonna be assigned by me. They’ll vary, of course; you’re not gonna be stuck with the same job over and over. However…” All the while Wes spoke, he leaned and placed his elbow on his thigh, propping his head on his hand and eyed her in thought. Of course, the slight explanation came somewhat vague as was usual with him. Maybe she’d ask, maybe she wouldn’t. By now it was obvious he wasn’t exactly in the most morally correct side of things anyways.

“For you— you’d make a good runner,” he stated plainly. “That magic of yours, or whatever it is that you’re doing, looks to me you can carry a hefty amount without being noticed. Makes for a unique thief, doesn’t it? Can carry things under radar easily, you can even defend yourself in a pinch if need be.” Not to mention however it was that she managed to break into the bakery without jimmying any locks. How she managed to worm her way in there was beyond him, and that also poked at him quite a bit. Well, a lot less now that before. “Imagine if we actually set you up— gave you the right tools to carry.” Wes stopped for a moment, gauging her reactions with sharp eyes and a tired posture.

“Essentially, you’d be indispensable,” he admitted, and continued speaking frankly. “So much so that I’m more surprised that someone with your skills hasn’t been snatched up yet. It doesn’t call for petty thievery…” He could be wrong, but it didn’t seem like she was doing all too good out there considering her clothes, makeshift arsenal, and the need to steal food.

Aside from an amused smirk, a shrug of the thief’s shoulders was the only response to Wesley allowing her to keep the stolen cigarette. The nice gesture meant nothing to Emi either way. It was almost like a free sample she was willing to take; it wasn’t going to soften her up, if that’s what he was thinking this gesture of goodwill would do. She wasn’t really interested nor addicted to smoking like Wesley and Kiigan seemed to be at least; the former circus clown was more addicted to adrenaline than anything else.

Emi’s emerald gaze turned to the dark silhouettes of buildings outside the window in the city covered by an eternal shroud of nightfall. The wisps of smoke she blew from the cigarette tilted on her lips reminded her of clouds in the sky, which only made the adrenaline fiend think of flying through the night sky. She may be more interested in food than cigarettes, but even Emi had to admit that these thoughts were a nice way to end a stressful day. Her large green orbs shifted their gaze over to Kiigan recovering on the chair as she listened to Wesley talk about how useful she was. It was nice to see that someone else saw her potential, even more so that she was actually taken seriously. Not even her last boss took her seriously. For a dangerous ginger, he sure had a way with words.

“What makes you think I wanna be snatched up?” Emi quipped playfully, a smirk forming on her lips as she tilted her head at him, bearing a defiant glint in her eyes. As much as she wanted a job, she wasn’t exactly keen on painting herself like some desperate girl wanting to be ‘snatched up’ by just anyone. She wasn’t that girl, fresh from the circus, anymore. In fact, she was doing all that Wesley had said all on her own, recently with the help of Theo. Given the circumstance, Emi knew she’d have to work around this hole in her plans.

"So, is this gonna be an everyday commitment or is there some kinda work schedule?" The clown thief proceeded to ask, the raised eyebrows upon her expression gave away her interest in the answer. Did she get days off to do whatever she wanted? Whatever she’d tell Theo would depend on this answer for sure. “And how long do you want me to work for you anyway?” She then leaned forward with her elbow on her thigh, thin green eyebrows narrowing as her low, velveted voice continued, “Because I've got my own shit I wanna accomplish, and I prefer to see the light at the end of the tunnel.” As crazy as it sounded, the streetrat was too ambitious to allow her dreams to be put on hold for someone else. The sooner she had the means to start her own business, the sooner she'd hopefully be gone.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by wes Tue May 31, 2022 6:28 pm

all these little lies
and most of them are mine
my words are coated in honey and wine
He sunk at little more into his palm at the quip, his cheek squishing up somewhat and eyes blinking slowly. There was something about defiance that was contradictory in his system. It bothered him, stood in his way of getting what he wanted most times. But it was also something he could appreciate in others (although begrudgingly at times). So, now, while he slumped into his hand unamused, Wes wasn’t frowning as deeply. “You never know— hearts can change at a drop of a hat…” he mused.

She mentioned accomplishments, wanting to achieve something. Don’t we all, he thought to himself, biting back the thought from manifesting audibly or visibly on his face. Yet the mention did spark a small flame of curiosity in him. “It’s passive, in a sense. You don’t really need to be around unless you’re called for. Whatever we need,” —whatever he needed, really— “goes and you’ll get paid per job. Not much different than your average merc, you could say. Though a little more exclusive; a little more…” he brought the tips of his fingers together, pinching and pulling at invisible string as though to convey a fine line, “personally tailored.”

“As to how long you work for me,” a light grin formed, “depends on you.” Codeword for indefinite. Normally he wasn’t one for dispatching members off on merit, not that many of them hadn’t shown to be reliable. He just wasn’t about letting people go that easy and he wasn’t above holding things over someone’s head for his own benefit, either. “You’re ambitious, aren’t you? You got your own shit you want. So, like all things, you gotta work for ‘em. And no doubt you’ve managed well enough on your own. Well… this whole mess aside,” he nodded over to Kiigan’s general direction, though he meant to imply the stolen drugs and the whole situation at Mackemm, before straightening himself out with a short-lived sigh and crossing his arms over his chest; tilted his head down at her with expectation on his brow before finishing— “Isn’t that right?”

You’d have to be blind not to infer how she might be living, but she seemed healthy enough; had even managed enough so far to not look like she was another starving nobody. Wes might’ve been trying to tap into—possibly a shot in the dark, really—what could be some pride at her own experiences. It’s not like he hadn’t been there himself.

And he kept going, bringing forth his own curiosity at her statement: “…Though I gotta question: what do you want, ladra? What’s what you want to accomplish?”

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by Emi Kazama Wed Jun 01, 2022 8:07 am

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

He probably didn't realize, but Wesley looked like a little kid the way he squished his cheek with his palm like that, even with the small frown he wore. Emi couldn't help the small smile that twitched at the end of her lips at how cute he looked, but she figured that whatever he was thinking was probably less than cute. The vindictive greenette still didn't forget that Wesley gave the order to knock her out after talking with him about the drug situation. It became apparent to Emi soon after that she needed to watch her back from getting too comfortable around him.

Wesley's explanation of how the scheduling and the jobs worked regarding pay seemed reasonable enough. It wasn't specific, but it was workable, she supposed. If she wasn't called on to do merc work or smuggling for Wesley, she could always do her smuggling business on those days. She was flexible enough. The idea that her job was personally tailored to her schedule and needs made her feel like an important future employee. Funny, that was the same thing her last boss said.

“As to how long you work for me,”

The thief's thin, pale green eyebrows rose with interest, although she should have known better in retrospect with the devilish ginger's grin that suddenly grew on his face.

“..depends on you.”

The pale eyebrows set lowly over her dark green orbs that stared at him with half-lidded, flat expression while her lips thinned in annoyance. His vague response was not at all what she was hoping for, feeling as though she was never going to see that light at the end of the tunnel. "Hmph," Emi turned her head away with a huff to stare at the tear in the wallpaper on the walls of the inn room, treating it as if it were the most interesting fucking thing she had ever seen. Before she spat the word 'asshole', her lips even curling in churlish preparation for it, Wesley caught her off guard with his next words. His next words resounded with her with such surprising understanding, even though she had hardly mentioned anything to him. Intrigued, Emi slowly veered her head back to face him again, her eyebrows tilting upwards with an expression that found herself strangely validated. "..Yeah," She responded begrudgingly with a wry smile, although there was a crinkle in her nose that was slightly scornful to admit it, dark green orbs eyeing him with bewilderment and scrutiny as to where he was going with this.

Wesley's question about what she wanted to accomplish softened her expression though, causing her countenance to be one of surprise that he actually was interested in asking what her goals were. Not even her last boss cared about that. Not only did his words make her feel validated, now he cared enough to ask about her goals? The lowly streetrat suddenly felt like she was noticed; she felt like she mattered.

Admittedly, a small part of the mischievous Emi wanted to say the usual lies out of rebellion, out of the thief's desire to keep herself guarded. Yet Wesley's words managed to break through somehow. Perhaps because she felt that maybe being vague with her own answers wouldn't hurt either. "I wanna own a business someday," She finally replied in a low tone of voice dipped in the rare form of genuity rather than mischief. She rolled her eyes, thinking of her smuggling business and not wanting to call that an actual business. "A real one," She clarified, meaning for one day attaining a legitimate business of her own. "And my own-" Suddenly, her words faltered from her lips, pride preventing her from saying more. She didn't want to seem as bad as she actually was. The last thing Wesley needed to hear was that she was homeless, saving money for a home of her own. Not rented. Hers. Emi didn't want to seem desperate, especially not to Wesley.

The clown thief narrowed her eyebrows and decided to be direct, wanting to speak her mind. "Look, I'll agree to your terms, but only if you agree to mine." She blew from the cigarette from her lips that curved to a smirk, then let it rest in between her fingers while resting her chin on a hand that was propped up by an elbow on her knee.  Without waiting for an answer, Emi began stating her conditions:

"I want a job working at your bakery or whatever actual business you have," Emi began with her low tone of voice smooth, casual. She wasn't sure at this point if Wesley only owned a bakery, but she just wanted a stable side job. "A customer service kinda job," She specified with a knowing smile, not wanting to be stuck with janitorial work. It was obvious that she knew better to be specific this time around. The circus clown didn't pretend to have a vast amount of skills in the working world, she knew she couldn't offer much with the exception of customer service at least. "If I prove myself to you.. and I know I will," She added confidently, "I want in on business meetings to learn more about how to run a business.." Emi wasn't sure what really went on in business meetings, but she knew that this would be the best way to gain the skills she needed to achieve her goal for owning a business. It would at the very least give her some benefit, given that she wouldn't know when she'd leave at this point. "And when that happens," Emi continued with a narrowing of her eyebrows, eyeing him sharply as an emboldened smirk tilted one side of her lips, "I want my own fucking business card."

"Those are my conditions," The stubborn Emi concluded her conditions as a matter of factly as she lowered her hand from her chin to plant it on her knee, then extended a free hand out for him to shake, "Deal?"

all these little lies

Satisfaction curled at the end at the end of his lips, the grin drawing a little broader than before. Yet it didn’t twist as it would. Instead, at her agreement, his expectant expression softened into something a bit more benevolent, lending itself to an understanding nod. His shot in the dark had hit its mark or, at least, close enough to it that it’d resonated with Emi on some level… or so he thought. Wes was perceptive, sure, a bit manipulative at the moment, too; but that didn’t mean everything was as it appeared, did it? There was always room for error.

Still, she seemed surprised. And from that surprise came a certain honesty about her goals. He pitched a soft whistle as though saying— well, would ya look at that. “A whole business, huh?” The smile he’d been holding back drew itself naturally as he cast his eyes to the ratty ceiling with a reminiscent look. A contemplative “hmph” following soon after. Yeah. He’d been there, alright. Landing in Vyl had left him with zip to work with—hard times for anyone. And although he could laugh about it now, back then… well… “A business’s a business no matter what your doin’,” he stated without much thought, having missed the eyeroll entirely, while a certain fondness tinged his voice. Did she already own one? One she considered fake, at that?

His musings on the greenette were cut short, and his attention redirected to her shortly after. A soft, but sharp, “what…?” being exhaled in disbelief. She had conditions now?

He hadn’t expected this.

She listed them off with a kinda annoying smirk plastered on her face, every single one drawing his brows higher on his forehead to the point where he looked both incredibly questioning and incredibly amused. By the time she’d finished though, he threw his head back with a laugh. “Ha!” The audacity of this woman, to ask things of him even after being placed under a death threat. He was practically giving her an out on her little robbery. “Kinda sounds like ya might run me outta my own business,” he joked, looking all the more entertained at her proposal and leaned towards her with narrowed eyes. A charming smirk formed as he stared into her pretty greens, while his voice lowered into an interested whisper. “You always like this?”

In that instance, despite the considerably flirtatious tone, Wes actually was thinking it over. He was a selfish one when it came to his own devices, preferring to mostly to keep to himself and not let anyone in. There’d only been one other person he’d ever taught, but she was easy to control and had delegated her to somewhere other than Vyldermire. Emi, on the other hand… Well—

It begged to question just how serious about it she was. A good carrot and stick.

“Gotta say…” he continued, smirk widening all the more… and the plucked the cigarette from her grasp. Wes leaned back again, body throbbing painfully from all the movement but trying his best to ignore it. “You got the right attitude, alright. Though you gotta watch that language of yours.” Not that he actually minded it, much less cared. “It’s a deal, Miss Kazama. You’ll get your fuckin’ business card.” It wasn’t really a promise, but as long as she could hold out long enough then maybe she’d get there; see how much that zeal could last.

Placing the smoke on his mouth, he shook her hand with a satisfied nod and a smile as sharp as a knife.

He then snapped his fingers before her, and in a trail of dark smoke a card blinked into existence. He turned it, held it out for her to see; though he doubted she would take it without question. “Your contract.”

Depicted on the card was an otherworldy deity bearing two faces—one Wes could recognize slightly, causing a visibly curious stir in him—sitting comfortably on a wooden stool while contemplating a golden key in his right hand. At his feet, an intricately designed banner with the title Janus named him.

“Didn’t think it was all a handshake and done?” he quipped, smoke billowing from the corner of his lip. “All you have to do is take it— and it's official.”

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

For a moment, it was hard to tell whether that "ha!" from Wesley was supposed to be a good thing or bad thing. Either way, the greenette thief kept that smile on her face. She wasn't afraid of rejections, she usually laughed at them. Her bold smirk even dared him to make a counteroffer if he didn't like it. There was a small squint in her eyes as she scrutinized him with some measure of amusement, but it flashed ambitiously all the same. She knew that he was getting most of the benefits and she wasn't backing down without something that would benefit her. Her smile further curved along her face upon hearing his quip about running him out of his business. "I'd rather run my own," She reassured lowly with a shrug, then leaned forward as well. Although she didn't think a joke needed reassuring, it was probably worth mentioning so that he wouldn't have any doubts about her ruining his business at least, enough to hopefully trust her with business ideas maybe. Although it was nice that Wesley counted her smuggling business as a business earlier, she still had to disagree; it wasn't a business she could show off to Pomme or her family anyway.

“You always like this?”

“Hm!" A soft, high pitched giggle was emitted from the thoughtful smile of her lips before she covered it with a hand, glimpsing over at Kiigan to make sure that she wasn't disturbing him. "I like being unpredictable,” she added in a low whisper once she lowered her hand and returned her attention back to Wesley's alluring blues, tilting her jade head with vague, flirtatious interest in the playful smile that danced on her lips. She refused to give Wesley the promise that she would always be like this. Maybe it wasn't what he wanted to hear, but she preferred not to confine herself to someone else's expectations. Lately, she seemed to be disappointing many people for not meeting their expectations, including her brother.

Dark green orbs flickered down Wesley's athletic, bandaged body to the cigarette that he had plucked from her grasp, before returning her steady gaze back to Wesley's blues. Hearing him say that she had the right attitude caused her to sit a little straighter, her smile growing with amazement that someone actually believed in her dream goals. It then formed a playfully wry smirk that tilted one side of her lips with a small crinkle of her nose upon hearing his comment about her bad language. She shrugged, perhaps taking it to consideration, or perhaps to show that she didn't care - although if it was a serious business tip, then maybe she did secretly care a little.

“It’s a deal, Miss Kazama. You’ll get your fuckin’ business card.”

"Really?!" Her large eyes batted her long eyelashes twice with a parting of her lips in surprise before she beamed brightly. "FUCK Yeah!" She exclaimed with a fist pump, then winced in pain upon realizing that she lifted the bandaged arm. "Ow..sst.." She smiled sheepishly in her wince, then her voice returned to its soft, smooth tone as she formally shook Wesley's hand, "Ahem..Glad we have a deal!"

Up until now, Emi was unaware that Wesley possessed magic of his own until she was presented with a card in his hand with a snap of his fingers. The circus girl wasn't necessarily impressed with the card trick, but she did raise an eyebrow when it seemed as though the way to seal the agreement was by taking the card from him. “A magic contract?” Emi guessed with widened eyes, realizing that there was nothing else for her to sign to seal the deal. "What's with the two-face anyway?" The thief remarked jokingly with a cocked brow and a distracted smile, making light of something that made her secretly nervous. Magic contracts made her nervous. Sealing the deal with them meant that something was likely to happen, and she didn't like that she couldn't tell what would happen. The best thing to do was playfully stall for a bit in an attempt to calm her nerves."Well, I don't see any fine print. Is there anything else I'm supposed to know? Aren't you going to tell me any rules or conditions?" She inquired with a cross of her arms underneath her chest, raising an eyebrow over the dark greens that glinted in keen interest for what Wesley hadn't yet told her. It would be nice to know the rules to this thing; finding a loophole to any of them would be even nicer.

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

Post by wes Fri Jul 15, 2022 12:01 am

Even through the headache and lightheadedness it was kinda hard not to laugh. She was incredibly animated, bouncing back quickly after all they’d been through. Wes had no doubt she’d leaving again, and he wasn’t sure how fickle the woman could be, not that it mattered after this; but he had to admit: seeing someone this excited over joining was uncommon. Two for two on the on the odd ducks, he thought. Kiigan had been another rarity. No wonder the don’s smile held just as sharp.

It did soften, however, when after shaking hands, she questioned the card. “This? Hmm…” Wes flipped the rectangular slip over and scanned the peculiar face she’d been assigned. He never gave the deities produced much thought, usually only reading over the name and taking a brief glance and not much else. This one, well, he knew it. “Janus,” he repeated; a singular, soft laugh as he remembered. Andrea hated studying gods, at least the local ones. Found them boring, or so he’d said when Janus had been assigned to him for a presentation… though the complaints could’ve been because he wanted Venus instead.

“Kinda funny lookin’, ain’t he? Back in my world they said he had to do something with… beginnings… and…” he thought about it momentarily— third grade social studies had been a long time ago, after all. “…doors,” he stated with finality, shrugged carelessly, and left it at that. Talking about gods was a little weird now. He never thought they really existed. At least, aside from the one he prayed to. But now that he was somewhere other than home, well… who knew?

Anyways, Wes had figured she wouldn’t take the card just like that although hastier things have happened in the past. Maybe he’d held out a little hope that it could just go quickly. He just wanted to grab the big guy and lie down. All three could use the rest, if he was honest. He sighed, smile leaving momentarily only to return a little weaker, a little tired. How many times had he explained this before?

“You’re smart to ask.” Taking the time to hold the card in both hands, he turned it around over and over, toying with it with little care. “Yeah, there’s rules. The contract, of course, bein’ magical and all, makes it so that they’re not so easily broken. Not that there’s that many, just two very, very simple ones…” Wes’s eyes flicked up at hers, away from the god that appeared and disappeared every time the paper got turned over. “First,” he began, “I don’t take to people talking about business that doesn’t concern others. Everything we do, outside of what we give face to, stays on the downlow, alright?” It was the more obvious rule of the two he’d mention today, the least surprising for his kind and those who worked under similar situations. Most got behind it quick.

“Second,” he continued, the smile growing a bit in strength. Some had problems with this one. The lone wolf types always complained. “Your partner’s pains are your pains, too.”

“But!” His hand came up suddenly, as if to cut off any incoming questions. “I know you’re thinkin’: but, Wes, what does that mean? That sounds kinda shit. Oh, I work better alone— Yeah, heard it all before. It’s not as bad as you think— It’s kind of a safety net between you and your partners, so you watch out for each other; don’t leave one another for dead.” While it did promote that his members get along, it almost made it so that his more valuable pawns were kept in check, kept safe, in a sense. “One of youse gets hurt bad? The other’s gonna start feelin’ it, really feelin’ it down the line. Call the pain your conscience… or maybe your better conscience. Nine outta ten have told me it can get… unbearable,” Wes said, sporting the same tired face. He wasn’t sure what kind of person Emi really was, but he’d just have to see, now, wouldn’t he?

“Plus it stops people from offin’ each other, too,” he added in nonchalantly. “An eye for an eye— that sorta thing. Ya either learn to play nice or get the hell out.” Or get out, the implication made it sound as if it were possible. The card was held out to her to take once more. There was no getting out as far as he was concerned, no mention of the contract’s—the curse’s—more invasive particularities.

“Keepin’ it simple, y’know. Preferable.”

Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan Empty Re: Blood on the Inn Floor | Emi & Kiigan

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

It wasn't often that Emi really heard details of an otherworlder's homeworld. Wesley's strange otherworlder language did leave her intrigued, but the two-faced man named Janus that Wesley identified sounded pretty topsy-turvy even for the former circus clown.  She cocked a brow at him as he spoke about this Janus guy having something to do with beginnings and doors.  "Huh.. is he an on-call midwife or something?" Emi asked half-jokingly, referring to the whole beginnings and doors symbolism. "I guess it's better than the other meaning of being two-faced," She concluded softly with a half shrug. The former circus freak would rather take a literal two-faced person than someone that acted like two different people. Unfortunately, Emi was pretty convinced most people were two-faced, based on experience. It was part of the reason why magical contracts without documents made her nervous.

Wesley's comment about her being smart to ask only confirmed her uneasiness, causing a firm line to form on the smile she wore while her eyebrows transitioned from a faint raise to instantly narrowing over her green eyes in seconds. If her facial expression could reveal her thoughts to Wesley, it was this: Asshole. Just as Emi parted her lips to curse call him out for keeping this from her unless she asked, Wesley continued with the two important rules. Deciding it was best to hear these rules, she let the words falter away as she closed her mouth. With her smile tilting wryly at the ends of her lips while listening to Wesley speak, the thief sighed through her nose as she rested her chin on a hand, propped up by the elbow at her bent knee.

The first rule Wesley said made sense. Not talking about the shady business sounded pretty standard, and nothing she wasn't already used to doing - namely, to Pomme and the rest of her family and friends. They just wouldn't understand the shadier side of her smuggling business, and she didn't want to deal with the shame if they should learn about her thievery. Emi simply nodded with a small understanding smile.  She was fine with not mentioning it.

“Your partner’s pains are your pains, too.”

Wesley's casual explanation did make her smirk in amusement as she leaned with one hand behind her propping her up on the bed. Contrary to Wesley's talk of some people preferring to work alone, Emi actually didn't mind working with others. In fact, she worked pretty well with others. That didn’t mean she trusted them though. “Sounds like a family,” Emi smiled a little, recalling how her circus family would treat someone being harmed or injured like it was one of them. In this case, it was literal, but she always found the light side of things more fun. Of course, this really meant nothing to Emi. She had her own family at the circus that she planned to see as soon as she was successful. Still, it guaranteed that Wesley wouldn't hurt her either. For once, it didn't seem like she would be screwed over this time.. right?

Now, it was decision time. Sitting a little straighter, Emi neared her hand to reach for the card, but her fingers bent with her hand pulling an inch away in hesitation.  Her large green eyes stared pensively at the card once more, before her eyes flickered over to Kiigan on the chair searchingly, hoping for some kind of sign of anything she could be missing. Wesley suddenly spilling things only when she asked made her more reluctant compared to how she felt before. Was that really all she needed to know?  Did he really share everything? And yet, Emi thought about the promise of finally getting a legitimate job in the working world, finally getting closer to buying her own home and eventually her own business; finally getting a business card.

In an instant, Emi took the card from Wesley's hand.

The thief stiffened as soon as she held the card in her hand, bracing herself for anything that might happen; anything could happen when it came to magic contracts. Yet nothing did. Just as her body began to relax, the card disappeared from her hand within a second, then splatters of stained color began to travel from her wrist and up her arm and shoulders. "What the Fuck?!" Alarmed, Emi's large eyes widened as she noted the splatters of colors spreading all across her body, from her legs to her neck. "Fuck!" The thief hissed at the jolt of pain at her chest, her hands clutching her chest just below her breasts. "Argh!" Emi bent a little forward, feeling the agonizing pain that felt like a knife that struck her and kept twisting. Suddenly, the street-rat promptly sprung off the bed as soon as her fight or flight clicked in, fearing for her survival.

"You--!" Emi yelled at Wesley accusatorily at his lies and betrayal when she tried to straighten herself up to on her feet. "Argh! Sst...Ahahaha!" In an instant, the laughing thief burst into high-pitched giggling, unleashing her aura of laughing magic in an attempt to incapacitate them from laughing as she ran for the door. Realizing that it was locked, she turned her head to Wesley once more as she quickly knocked on the door with her knock-knock spell. Knock... Knock. Knock. Knock... Knock. Knock.   "Remember when you joked about me making you laugh yourself to death?" She bore a pained smile that spread into a wide, dangerous grin as soon as the door unlocked. "Hope ya have the time of your life, ASSHOLE!" With that dark joke, Emi threw open the door and bolted down the hall, staggering to the walls from the shooting pain and clutching her chest with a wince. She had to find a way to hide and get out of here.
