☆ Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!? ☆

In a small general store, sandwiched between a dingy coffee shop and an equally dingy restaurant, an old lady stood chatting away with her only customer of the day; an equally old man who had nothing better to do with his evenings than to hang around the 300 square-foot shop. The conversation didn’t pause for a beat, delightful small talk filling the air among the muffled sounds of cars and pedestrians—the usual. That is, until a piercing cry broke through the peaceful sound barrier.

“Aaaaaaah…! Himi-chaaaaan~!!"

The two elderlies turned, their attention pointed at the store’s display window. Outside stood a ponytailed brunette, hands clutched together lovingly against her pudgy cheek. She swooned and swayed dreamily, before dropping on all fours with near puppy-dog excitement and scuttling a foot across the floor like an insect who’d just found a nice piece of trash. Her grubby little palms clasped against the display’s glass with an audible thunk! “Himi-chan! Himi-chan! I can't believe I finally found you— My sweet duchess, my beautiful lady in secrecy—! Oh, how much I wandered just to be in your presence. Kami-sama be praised!!!”

A fangirl—in her natural state.

For those not paying attention, she seemed to be addressing someone inside. However, those that did decide to give the scene a lookover would notice that she wasn’t actually looking at someone, no, but fawning over one specifically sparkly, diminutive sticker among the dozens of much larger, much more eye-catching ads on the window. It'd been recently and haphazardly slapped onto the corner lowest to the ground. An easy oversight for anyone passing by. But to her— oh, she knew what it meant. Ohoho, she knew.

“Momma’s coming for you. Just you wait a little longer…” Jamie whispered, green eyes narrowing down and tongue running over upper lip in determination. In turn, she was met with the haughty glare of a 2D masked woman. She giggled in anticipation, pulled her pink and white baseball cap lower over her face and dashed inside.

The general store's bell rang obnoxiously loud. "Heya, Lambert! Heya, Marie!" She waved at the old gawking duo by the register with the energy of a child on a sugar high, practically leaving an outline of herself as her legs tore through the aisles and towards the back section. The section. The best section in the whole wide world!

The comics section.

For some weird reason, the tiny shop actually sold a collection of what the rabid weeb called doujins. Weirder still was that the collection held volumes of original content one would have a hard time finding anywhere else. A hidden gem among many others, even if the shop's lights flickered every so often and practically looked decrepit. Still! It was gem nonetheless for her, a real diamond in the rough of sugoi manga goodness! And they always sold snacks at suspiciously low prices, too. That was always a plus!

"Wait a moment..." Her heart pounded to a stop when she neared the rack of books, each cover contained a series of large-eyed characters, bulging colorful letters in different languages, and a series of symbols including hearts and stars and pretty watercolor smudges... but none of them contained it. "No way... Where is it!?" It couldn't be—her sole purpose for even daring to venture out of her apartment on her only day off work was nowhere to be found... They couldn't be out of copies of Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!? so soon!? They'd only announced the newest addition to their comics on their website yesterday!

"No way no way no way no way...!"

A flurry of books were tossed this way and that, the already messy rack growing messier in her panic. Little did Jamie know, however, that the remaining volume of what she sought was just a rack higher, a little out of her own reach, and peeking out of from behind a much raunchier book.

The weeb had completely missed it.

Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!? | Fleur Unknown

The young fairy had passed through the open door, and suddenly she had the store to herself, or so she liked to believe given how empty everything looked. It was the perfect place to enjoy her coffee in silence without the sound of the everlasting chitter-chatter from fellow coffee-lovers next door. The lively music was all kinds of great there, but she wanted total silence to reign over rhythm, just this once, and sought the rare tranquility she craved in such a comic book goldmine.

The only sound that could be heard within the vicinity of the elderly shop owner was the rosy lips of their latest blue-wigged customer pressing gently down on a stiff green straw with the look of pure enjoyment on her face at being able to savor the cinnamon roll flavored frappuccino.

Her big, bug-like eyes were the deepest color of cherry, obscured only by sunglasses so tacky and humorous, as they scanned over books-a-plenty and landed finally on the old couple that ran the store diligently over the years.

If the winged dear squinted hard enough, the lines that blemished the pair’s sagging complexions, the speckles that dusted their ivory features a beautiful brown, the natural signs of aging would vanish from their flesh momentarily. Fleur felt she could reverse the hands of time with her mind’s eye and replenish their dying youth in her memories.

She recognized them as the veils of deja vu were finally lifted by the less than nimble fingers of familiarity, and she couldn’t help but stare as she recalled being much younger and twenty-something when she saw them last, entering this little treasure trove littered with nerd culture and wonder. They were so young back then, so warm and full of life. Her heart skipped a bittersweet beat as she raised her hand to greet them, feeling a little sentimental all of a sudden, not caring if the exchange was awkward for all parties involved, especially since they couldn’t exactly see through her disguise or understand the rather honeyed greeting.

The time for sweetness came to a close as a pretty thing walked past her with a touch of merriment in her voice, bubbly cuteness dressing the slim one from head to toe with the purest blessing of nerdy ambition so suitable for a girl her age; only if the assumption of her being human was in some way accurate and true.

One could never be too sure in this world. She could have been a baby-faced angel with hidden wings and be a good thousand years older than Fleur for all she knew.

The fake bluenette placed her drink on a level surface of who knows what to adjust the cuffs of her lightweight, white lantern-sleeved top and yawned.

The gleam of a colorful book caught her eye, and she laughed deeply, ignoring the naughty opus covering most of the magnificence that was  Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!?

Was this a continuation of one of her old favorites? If so, she couldn’t have been any happier to rekindle old interests. “Yes way.” She whispered under her breath, an ominous shadow playing over her shades and nose, as a gremlin took over her spirit and sized her down to a hand, “You’re so mine, baby!”

Small Fleur sprung her colorful red wings to life, and flew close to the floor and ascended over the silhouette of the youth once she was ready to propel to a more upward curve with a massive downpour of sparkles to alert the other young woman of her presence. She didn’t think about the consequences of her diminutive form, it seemed, as she nearly met a lowly mosquito’s doom. A flurry of books were being messily, frantically tossed about and Fleur, pumped to the max with adrenaline, bounced off the books with all the stumbling grace of a video game character trying desperately to dodge an assortment of pixelated obstacles.  She was so thankful for her choice in high waisted jeans, but not for her taste in footwear. Running off flying book covers in high heels, she could say with extreme certainty, was a pain in the royal rump as she found herself nearly sandwiched between two catapulting sets. She feared for her beautiful wings so badly, she barrel-rolled to the side and crashed squarely into the cheek of the girl.

Screaming the warrior cry of a chipmunk, Fleur forgot that she sounded pretty funny to giants in this particular state, but there was nothing to laugh about being in the presence of a fairy. They were the trolls of the Gaiyans, and perhaps a piece of that shined brightly in Fleur today.

She grabbed the cherub-faced girl by her soft, shiny, wavy brown bangs and scaled her fuzzy scalp with a vengeance. She climbed boldly to the top, extremely fearless and unyielding to the possibilities of being ultimately smacked off by a hand bigger than her entire body. As though about to strike a flag deep into her hair to mark her territory, exuding a funny Mighty Mouse persona that was too jarring, she took off once again and landed on the forbidden racket with all the naughty works for screaming perverts to behold.

What she didn’t count on doing today, was to have posed so perfectly over the form of a naked woman on the cover of a kinky doujin, censored by tentacles. Fleur was about to accuse her rival of being a psycho; that is, until she turned around and met face to face with the same censored protagonist of: Mr. Tentacles & I.

Fleur turned blue with disgust and anger. She used this moment to blow off her steam, having been momentarily frightened into thinking she was going to get a dirty 2D tentacle up the butt: “I get it. We have our kinks, we should be open-minded to the ultimate brand of weird that's out there for the plucking and that’s perfectly fine. Healthy, even. But also, that’s completely wrong. You shouldn’t be a monster-fucker, children.” She continued boldly, pulling the big bad doujin to the left and knocking it over the shelf. “That’s borderline, oh, I don’t know, beastiality? We don’t do our forest friends, you bunch of tools.”

The rambling fairy gasped as she saw her precious Himi, her greatest spirit animal, her soul sister. It almost moved her to tears.

But she was a strong girl. No tears for this lady because this was a moment of victory!

☆ Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!? ☆

So unnerved was she that anything within reach of her periphery had become nonexistent. A blind panic had settled over the brunette, cementing her wild focus on all the shelves except for which contained the hidden treasure she sought. Would her beloved Himitsu be absent the day wouldn’t be one so easily overcome. No. Jamie was pretty sure she would melt into a gazillion tears sadder than the amount of subpar doujins pathetically littering the floor. A puddle of the big sad. The big weeby, weeby sad.

“URGH!” Her hands flew to her eyes in a fit of frustration and slid down with the looks of someone attempting to claw their face out. She sought to the heavens, to the kamis and deities beyond the faulty ceiling lights as the few remaining books descended around her. “Why aren't the racks in alphabetical order!? What kind of monster does this!?" she questioned, a complaint never before expressed, at her current circumstance. The answer: herself and the many times she's visited.

It was then that, like a response from the very gods themselves, a winged silhouette soared across her vision. “…Huh?” For a second she thought that perhaps this was it, she had finally evoked the help of something way beyond her understanding (not that she understood much to begin with) and that maybe, just maybe, her Himi-chan would come home. But while she gawked mesmerized by the pretty display of sparkles did some of the stuff land in her open mouth. "...Hack!...Ack!... What the— Eeeeww..." she coughed and sputtered and coughed some more, the dust drying her tongue and just as quickly disappearing from her taste buds.

Everything after happened way too quickly.

A bump into her face. "Ow!" A scream so shrill in her ear it rivaled the worst of Nightcore remixes. "Hey!" Then tiny claws grabbed and kicked their way up her bangs like a rat desperately trying to escape a predator. She slapped her cheek in response. Too slow. Grabbed her baseball cap and launched it at the rack with the ferocity of an angry toddler. "Hyah!" Nothing there.

Whatever weirdo summon had been gifted to her sure had a way of helping, she couldn't help but think, one side of her face burning slightly and hair messier than before. She rose to her a feet determined little lady, cheeks puffing adorably in anger as she stood on the tips of her toes and barely managed to peer over the untouched shelf.

Among the dozens of lewd and lewder covers which she was entirely unfazed by, even coming to deem some of them vanilla in nature, stood the smallest little creature. A creature so small she would liken to a weak lv. 1 monster out of pure spite. "The heck! You're just a fairy!" she blurted out angrily, only catching the tail end of the bluenette's ramblings before the fan favorite Mr. Tentacles and I crashed onto her eye. "Agh!"

It'd sent her teetering onto the balls of her feet momentarily, hand clasping her pained eye, before lurching forward on her toes once more and slamming that same hand on the edge of the rule 34 shelving; the other coming to a stand next to the Fae, mimicking a character with legs. "Hey!...Hey!" The hand-person stomped forward, a finger-leg shoving the tiny woman on the shoulder. A fair fight, she figured, a little too naïve for own good, and began poking her in the cheek as she spoke. "You should really watch your mouth, you know. It’s rude to go around kink-shaming people on, I dunno, their tastes! It’s not bestiality if it’s just a drawing on paper, okay? Mr. Tentacles and I is a beautiful and emotional rollercoaster of passion and desire; you'd know that if you even read it. So either respect the art and artist or get out of the store!"

With that said, the hand-person coiled its finger-leg into its arm-thumb and kick-flicked the teeny critic in the shin.

She was about to make her exit then. However, something beyond the day's offender caught her attention. Jamie's formerly furrowed brows shot up in recognition, her green eyes sparkling more than the dust she'd swallowed earlier from behind the shelf's edge. A complete change in temper.

"Y-you're... you're here..."

If angel's could sing an opera and a spotlight could shine down, Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!? might as well been center stage. She grabbed the book, tunnel visioning so hard she'd failed to even address the Fae one final time before whipping around, her ponytail flinging behind her, and bounding off with her sweet, sweet Himi-chan cradled in her arms. She caressed the book, she petted the book, she flipped through the pages in search of damages. "I swear, if any dirty casuals who can't appreciate a good story got their tiny little claws on my Himitsu..." she said, an absent-minded jab at that scarlet-winged monster from before and hugged the literary piece of magnificence to her chest with glee. "Heehee!"

Himitsu! The Villainess Lives a Double Life...!? | Fleur Unknown

The small light in the room now, a thousand times brighter and a warmer red, took to fondling her finger-kicked shin. But different from the sound of her pained hopping came the awed cooing of the big-fingered menace. Her gaze led her to their prized comic series and the immediate downfall of the fairy.

She fell off the shelf for a good bit before remembering she had wings.

Silly Gaiyan.

Startled Fleur had now cast off all disguise of restraint, and was darting at her victim from every direction, pinching her cheeks each time she touched. “I don’t know how to break this to you, but the world got together and decided that from now on, everyone is entitled to every opinion under the sun! Am I suddenly the exception to that now? Think about where I’m coming from, alright? What would their children look like?! They’re going to have faces only a mother could love!”

She grabbed hold of the comic book with her entire body and clung desperately to it, spitting out pieces of her fake blue hair from her mouth.

Oh, what a nasty flavor.

“Dirty casual? Fine, I’ll let that slide. I’ve been called worse, but you’ve gotta let me have this. It’s the only copy available! I don’t know of any other place that has it! I’m lucky I can even go outside today!” she ran her mouth, not letting up the book still in youth’s vice.

She feared a paper cut more than the average being, and tried to adjust her koala’ing so as to not get her little body mercilessly sliced up by giant paper.

Fleur felt just a smidge pathetic for allowing her desperation to bubble to the surface like this; she could almost hear her uncle’s violin singing her tale of woe, and in her effort not to fly off the edge again — the wig she so commonly wore crawled off her head.

Not that she noticed the falling pile of blue. She was starting to notice her shades flopping about her face, and wasn’t sure whether to let go of the book to fix that right up or to sacrifice her ridiculous sunglasses to the shade gods.
