With sunlight seeping into the streets of Engloria, they were beginning to come alive. The quiet of the night passed and they were soon populated with all sorts of different people. But as different as they were, they all had one thing in common. They were all extremely loud.

Off to the side, hidden in an alleyway, was the red eldritch, desperately clenching her pointed ears while she tried to get in a few extra minutes of slumber. Unfortunately, no amount of forcing her ears closed was helping, eventually Soot sprang up, letting out a frustrated yell at the crate she'd been sleeping behind. A few heavy breaths were then followed by a sigh as she wiped dirt out of her hair and off of her clothes.

She rubbed her eyes then peeked out onto the streets, giving a less than friendly glare at all of the infuriating people walking around. She wasn't generally the nicest person, but the last few nights had been rough and they were beginning to make her grumpier than usual. It wasn't like she'd never slept on the ground outside before, but she usually did it with a blanket or something. That was gonna change starting today though. She vowed right then and there, that she'd be sleeping in a bed by night fall even if she had to kill somebody for it.

The only issue was that getting a bed for the night costed money, and that was a resource Soot was running low on. As it stood, she was barely going to be able to feed herself the next few days, getting a place to spend the night was out of the question. At least, unless she managed to score big and get the coin to afford both.

She began walking around casually, eyeing up potential targets. Ideally she could find someone wearing expensive jewelry and just snag it real quick. But despite the large number of people out and about, there weren't any immediately obvious targets. She'd just have to keep looking for the time being, eventually some idiot was bound to come along.

calling for blue skies
The elf yawned. Blue eyes struggled to stay alert even amidst the growing dissonance that marked the beginnings of yet another day. The long sleeves of his colorful robes had been deliberately tied back, revealing the smooth pallidity of his arms and skin. For as refreshing as the morning mist could be it would surely become hotter as the day progressed, and the lazy elf had had it in him to think ahead. Enjoy the breeze, he would — even if said breeze only served to lull him further and further.

A hand hovered over his mouth in a haphazard attempt to smother the behavior, but the yawn only grew with each breath until, finally, it was snuffed out. He blinked away a few dry tears, wooden shoes clacking against the polished stone beneath them as he ambled down the picturesque streets. On his back a large chest of wood with carvings only he could understand lay strapped around his slim shoulders with thick, silvery rope. With his golden tresses and vibrant attire, the elf stood out (quite literally, as he’s very tall) a sore thumb among the mounting throng of people.

At his front the most peculiar item rested.

Slender fingers wrapped around it as if to not pique the interest of the of the ever-curious eye. However, in his daze did he fail to notice two men crossing his path with heavy furniture in tow and the elf unintentionally danced around them. The softest of “excuse me’s” was uttered out and lost with the mens’ exclamations of ’Ay, we’re workin’ ‘ere! and ’Outta the way!, and he threw his arms in the air to save the object from harm. It had the build of a teapot, maybe a sort of kettle. It’s spout, which far outmatched its body in length, curved upwards and a thin handle of curious motif complimented its rear. Having been exposed to the early morning rays, the lamp’s golden frame glinted before making its eventual descent back into the elves’ view.

A gentle smile formed as he gazed at his own reflection within said lamp, eyelids opening and closing in languid flutters. “Oh, dearest friend, although I would enjoy having you at my side for long it is clear this bird does not sing with the rising of the sun,” Saeven excused himself, “I hope you find it in your heart of hearts to forgive this sleepy elf—”

“So into my pocket you go!” he chirped, before calmly setting the lamp within his outer pocket. He had stopped afore a glass window then, consumed by the rumbly beginnings of hunger. Behind it, all sorts of delicacies were sorted and placed into elegant metal trays, and he couldn’t help but marvel at all the little pastries displayed within. Though he had never seen such intricate foods, nor did he believe they were native to the land of Vyldermire — Saeven very much found himself wanting to try a bite. Though he did not want to have his go at it alone. Breakfast, he thought, was always better spent with company.

joker's always wild

but I just can't smile without you

Although it was too early to burglarize homes, the early morning was arguably one of the best times to steal from businesses not yet opened to the public; not to mention the best time to pickpocket people, according to the green-haired petite with the orange bandana. It was the time where people were bustling off to work, or they were still waking up, both of which made the perfect victims to steal from, based on her five years of thievery anyways. Engloria happened to be home of so many rich nobles, it kind of made it easy pickings.

Sitting criss-crossed on top of a roof, Emi watched the beautiful city awakening below, her dark green eyes bearing a hint of amber in her irises from the reflection of the early morning rays. There was a determined smile that drew across her lips as she eyed the successful businesses below. Although most would never believe her to be one with plans, everything she did was all part of her plan: One day, she will be rich, she’ll be well-known and successful, and she’ll never have any problems at all.

The adrenaline rush of surviving wasn’t a problem for the streetrat that lived in the streets for so many years, of course, the real problem was not being successful or even being close to it. She’d never impress Pomme at this rate, much less herself.  A sigh escaped her lips as she rested her cheek onto her fist that was propped up and resting on her bent knee, her fist effectively squishing her cheek in a cherubic way. A smile of amusement did spread along her lips though, when she noticed the comical way that a tall man twirled about these gruff people moving the furniture. The golden glimmer of what looked like a lamp suddenly caught the thief’s eyes that blinked with interest, causing her chin to slowly lift up away from its resting position on her fist as her smile across her lips curved impishly upon noticing that this tall man was actually an elf.

Emi knew better than to pickpocket an elf while he was peering out the bakery, given that he wasn't going to stare that long by the time she'd get there. She'd have to distract him somehow. She also wasn’t going to bump into the elf to steal the golden item and risk him immediately check his pocket for the missing item. No, she was going to do something far more satisfying for this elf prick. She was going to steal it right under the elf's snobby nose or at least faster than his snobby nose could turn away in disdain.

After she jumped onto a shorter rooftop then used a parkour flip to bravely free-fall off the roof, she rolled onto the ground before standing up again, patting herself of the dust with a triumphant grin. Then, the thief in the black tank top and striped orange and green shorts casually strolled over to the window. Immaturely sticking out her tongue at him when he wasn't looking,  the petite thief then peered through the window. “Ya know.. If you think the view’s great, just wait ‘til you check them out inside..”  Emi mused to him in a friendly tone of voice before peeking over at him with a jovial smile. The thief may not have stealth like most thieves, but her expertise was treating people like she knew them for the longest time. “The pastries aren’t that bad either..” She whispered jokingly to him before glimpsing back at the bakery window with a soft giggle. She wouldn't be surprised if these bakery boys were what really attracted people to the bakery..

"They have something called... Italian bread," Emi mulled on the name with a curious tone of voice at that word. "It’s pretty popular. People swear by it,” She added with a bright smile. "Pfft! That reminds me of a joke!" A hand reached over her lips to stifle the giggling at the joke that she was already laughing at before she could even begin. With a clearing of her throat, she attempted to tell him the joke:
"Okay. One day, this guy goes up to the baker and says: 'they say that your Italian bread is life-changing. I want three loaves!' Then, the baker says: 'Ey, are you sure you want three? This is fresh Italian bread. By the time you get to the third loaf it'll be hard as a rock!" Emi comically overdramatized her imitation of a particular baker, even using a pinch of her fingers at her thumb and waving it in a dramatic gesture. She stopped her imitation shortly afterwards with a bright smile and then continued her joke story: "Suddenly, the man’s romantic partner speaks up: “Finally! If you won’t pay the baker, then I will!”  Instantly, Emi clutched at her abdomen over her smiley faced corset as she laughed at the innuendo of the Italian bread being life-changing by causing people to get a more satisfying love life by making "it" be hard, “And don’t get me started on cannolis!”

Have Faith (Emi, Sae) Empty Re: Have Faith (Emi, Sae)

Post by Soot Tue Aug 24, 2021 1:39 am

The moment the tea pot was revealed to the light of day, Soot's eyes locked on. She kept sight on the peculiar looking guy with the kettle and made her way closer, hiding behind people as best she could. All the while, her mouth curled into a delighted smirk. The pot looked fancy and expensive on its own, but what really sold it was the way the elf carried it. It was held tight, concealed in his hands and even when he'd ran into the furniture folks he'd kept it safe. It was valuable to him, which likely meant it was valuable in general.

There was just one issue, the expensive tea pot was in the elf's hands and not hers. The elf clearly didn't need it as much as her, that much was obvious from his appearance. Fancy clothes, a nice big backpack, probably filled with twenty more fancy pots, he almost definitely had food and a place to stay. She then glanced down at her own clothes, her black dress was dirty and in desperate need of a wash but maybe not the worst thing she could be wearing. Either way, he had a bed and she didn't, it was time to take from the rich and give to the Soot.

She watched closely as he placed the lamp in his pockets, quietly chuckling to herself. That was going to make things a little easier, she wasn't sure if she'd be able to pry it out of his hands if he kept holding onto it the way he was. She crept around, stalking her prey and getting in closer. She only paused when he stopped in front of the bakery. Her eyes followed his to the pastries, it seemed he was looking to get something to eat. She whispered to herself in an annoyed mocking tone. "Dumb greedy elf, looking to stuff his dumb greedy face."

That's when the lady in the black tank showed up. A friend of the elf's perhaps? It didn't really matter, either way she was giving Soot an opening. She had to devise a plan quick, there was no telling how long this golden opportunity was gonna stay open. Something brilliant, something foolproof, something so perfect that even she couldn't mess it up.

In a sudden moment of pure genius she ran straight at the elf. The plan was a bit complicated but amazing overall. She would run into him and try to knock him down, then in the chaos she'd make off with the lamp. Sometimes she was so smart it shocked even herself.

Another rumble. His hand made its way to his stomach. It took no time at all for the treats to become tantalizing to the elf and he wondered if maybe his dormant friend would enjoy the sugary meal. So he hesitated partly, hand making its way towards his pocket once more. Should he actually wake her? Maybe a surprise would be the better suit the occasion? He was unsure. For all his years it was far, few, and in between when he came upon the chance to share in a meal, and he really wouldn’t want to be a bother—

A voice broke through his thoughts. A playful tune to a welcoming tone. So he turned, curious as to who would approach him with such friendliness, only to blink a few times when confronted an empty space. Then, he blinked down.

Oh!

Why, she was small! …And so colorful, too!

His lips curled slightly and he tilted his head, amusement rising in the tiniest of waves. In his sleepy state, her initial greeting had barely registered, and it took him more than a few seconds before he began to make sense of her and her rambles. A joke, he had registered as much. Yes, that’s correct, Saeven. She was beginning a joke. Better listen!

Though he tried, there was much he couldn’t understand. His head tilted further and further, brows furrowing deeply in thought. The joke train had come and gone, leaving in its tracks a woman whose giggles he attempted to mimic in a polite manner. The last thing he wanted was to offend a human. He truly didn’t understand what was so funny. Was there something he’d missed? An assortment of invisible question marks filled the space around him. Maybe the joke had been too complex for his slower-than-usual self.

“Ex— excuse me, but… why would she want a hardened loaf? His romantic partner, I mean,” he said between nervously polite laughs. Don’t upset the funny human. Don’t upset the funny human. Please, don’t upset her! Blue eyes narrowed, gaze shifting uncomfortably towards the bakery’s window. He fidgeted, “And— what is— a canno—”

Before he could finish, a small frame crashed against his, and the elf —ever the weak one and caught properly off guard— came tumbling down on the poor, petite creature before him. His hands clapped the floor unceremoniously, and he was too distraught to notice that the joking woman had fallen right underneath. Instead, his attention whipped to whatever had tackled him only to find a dark-haired child.

“Oh, are you alright?” he asked the raven-haired girl, concern sewn across his brow and completely oblivious to the colorful figure below.
i'm sorry

"Ex— excuse me, but… why would she want a hardened loaf? His romantic partner, I mean,”

"Pfft! More like his romantic partner wants his loaf hardened, if you know what I mean!" Emi tossed the towering elf a finger gun with her gloved hands and a playful wink, hoping he'd understand with her explanation of the joke about the life changing bread. Most people tend to find that the jokes cease being funny after explaining them. For the comedic mage, the joke continued to carry it's comedic magic, the grin that she wore still holding the same mirth since before her explanation. A soft giggle was even released after her explanation, almost as if the joke replayed in her mind all over again.

In a few seconds, however, the jade thief paused in her giggling with a gloved hand raised up to her lips, letting a soft gasp escape her lips in surprise at a thought that crossed her mind. "Hold on..was that your first perverted joke?!" Emi exclaimed in shock and enthusiasm, a bright grin spreading across her lips that reached her eyes with a jovial squint. She was proud to be his first, if it was! "Because if it was, then I should've actually given you a good one!" Emi mused with a wink and a slight smile, almost regretting that she told the previous joke just for the reaction now. Oh well. Even bad jokes were funny, at least to her. "Wait, you're not..put off by perverted stuff?" The thief asked with an awkward smile, caught off guard by how her plans were not going the way she expected. This was the part where the snobbiness in the elf was supposed to kick in; he was supposed to turn away in disdain, so that she could steal right from under him. Yet he didn't..

As the elf began to ask about cannolis, Emi's dark green orbs scrutinized the elf once more in bewilderment, taking in the colorful assortment of his robes and his purple bandana with some measure of appeasement on her countenance. All this time, she disliked elves. She thought they were pretentious, snobby, ethereal pricks. Yet maybe elves weren't so bad after all..maybe elves could be-

"...Ffkk!!" Emi muttered into her arm that her face pressed onto when she comically face planted against the pavement, mostly registering the pain of her full breasts that hit the pavement more than anything else. The softness of her body may have cushioned the elf as well as prevented her from bruising a rib possibly, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt her breasts any less. The fact that the elf regarded her as nothing more than a lowly cushion was enough to make Emi want to steal from him all the more, although she couldn't help but laugh at the irony. "Ahahah!" Emi burst into laughter as she lifted her head from being pressed onto her lower arm, almost as if laughter made the pain feel less. "Now I remember how much of a pain in the ass elves were! Yeah, they have a real way of making you feel beneath them, but some elves take it to the next level! Just ask this guy! It's okay though! Just be nice to them, let 'em sit on you while they greet all of Fleuve'ir .. yeah, no, I always wanted to be a chair for a Gaiyan, so I can tell 'em: GET OFF YOUR ASS!" With a grunt in the smile that demonstrated her mashed teeth that winced from the pain, Emi used all of her strength to lift herself up in attempts to bump the elf off, moving her hands by his sides in her attempts to shove him off while one quickly filched the lamp from his pocket and surrepticiously shoved it in her hammerspace pocket dimension of her pinstriped shorts. Jokes at people's expense usually happened when Emi was especially annoyed. These jokes in particular were a tad spiced with racism, but Emi was too hurt to give a shit, especially when she was ignored by the elf like she didn't even matter. Like she belonged under there. Hmph. She showed him!

After the thief rose to her feet with a pained smile, she stretched her arm across her chest with a hand that clutched at her ribs, but really it was her breasts that hurt the most. First and last time she was ever going to tell jokes to an elf! Next elf she steals from, it's going to be a grab and go situation as usual. "Yeah, the one that pushed you must've gotten away really fast!" Emi smirked in sardonic humor, deciding to help the petite Eldritch that knocked into the elf by giving her an excuse. Emi knew there was no way that this eldritch girl was pushed though, not unless the girl possessed a power that granted her such strength. With that kinda force, the raven haired girl needed to have had a running start, given Emi's own experience with running into pedestrians. "Welp. Hope ya catch 'em! See ya!" With that, Emi dashed off running with the lamp secure in her pocket dimension.

Have Faith (Emi, Sae) Empty Re: Have Faith (Emi, Sae)

Post by Soot Sun Aug 29, 2021 5:35 pm

According to the plan, once the stupid elf had toppled over and the lamp had fallen out of his pocket, all Soot needed to do was swipe it and run. Unfortunately, her foolproof plan was apparently not quite foolproof enough for a fool of her magnitude. The lamp never fell out of the elf's pocket, and even if it did, the impact to her head had Soot clutching her skull rather than a priceless tea pot. She groaned as she rubbed the top of her head, perhaps she should've aimed herself better and struck him with her horns rather than her skull.

She looked at the elf when he asked if she was alright. At first her expression was puzzled, but it quickly shifted to an upset look. "I am not alright," She pointed at him, as if this simple gesture shot all of the blame his way. "You need to watch where you're going, there's other people in the world than just you!" This was a phrase she'd heard directed at herself more than a few times, nice to see it finally coming in handy.

Her attention shifted when laughter emitted from underneath the elf. It was the lady from earlier, but as she started to speak, it was unclear whether she was annoyed at the elf for so rudely sitting on her or if she was just telling a joke. Either way, Soot saw this as a good chance to locate the lamp and skedaddle. Except when she did find the pocket, she also caught the lady underneath taking it out with her grubby little paws.

Soot's teeth clenched, annoyed by the situation. That slimy little jerk was using the situation she'd created to steal the lamp. Sure, Soot had attempted to use her in a similar manner only a moment prior, but this was different, this was at her own expense.

Soot's eyes were fixed on the lady, squinting at her and trying to figure out what the best course of action would be moving forward. When the lady tried to bail her out by blaming the collision on some unknown figure that had pushed her, the idea that she was trying to help went right over Soot's head. Instead Soot just assumed she saw what happened incorrectly.

As the lady said her goodbyes and was about to head off, Soot was forced to make a decision on her next move, biting her lip and then shouting out at her. "Hold it! Nobody ran into me, also-" She looked to the elf briefly. "Dumb greedy elf, that lady took your tea pot." Calling him dumb and greedy was kind of a mistake, it just sort of slipped out, but hopefully he cared more about that golden lamp than he did his dumbness or greediness.

Have Faith (Emi, Sae) Empty Re: Have Faith (Emi, Sae)

HAVE FAITH
@Emi Kazama

Had he understood the joke maybe it would’ve gotten a rise out of him, possibly a blush or polite laugh. But his sleepy mind didn’t register as much—not to mention that had no idea what an Italian anything was. Possibly an Otherworlder thing. Yet the undertone wouldn't matter as his attention was stolen by the onset of gravity and…was that little girl red? He wiped his eyes.

She had horns, too.

He immediately leaned away in realization, his hand coming to rest gingerly over his chest where his heart would be. The assumption wasn’t something to be proud of, sure. But her uncanny skin and eyes painted her a certain way as much as his ears pointed towards elf. Eldritch, he couldn’t help but think as alarm rose in his person. It rising doubly so when a second bout of realization descended over the first and caused the already wide-eyed elf to go wider-eyed than before: the soft patch of ground he’d been seated on was not cement.

“Oh… Wait… Hold on…” Perhaps too much was happening at once that he struggled to find the correct words to mend the situation, nor was he given the time to scramble his lanky self off the colorful woman. The attempt to do so only serving as more leverage for her shove and sending him toppling to one side. He’d clearly hurt her by the way she grabbed painfully at her sides, but her words had been harsh and he wasn’t quite sure what to say. It didn’t do him any better when the demon-like creature spoke. “Not all elves are…” he tried for the woman first, then the girl. “…I suppose I should be more observant next time…?”

Half accepting the accusation of this all being his fault, his mind practically reeled with excuses, explanations, and the inherent need to ask for forgiveness. It wasn’t until after the shorter one of the two spewed at him some less than friendly titles that his reeling mind came to a sudden halt.

This was not just any accident.

This was a theft.

“That is not a teapot. That is a LAMP!” he practically shouted lamp, that tiny bit of frustration and a whole lot of distress fluctuating escaping his body. He stood in mere seconds. “And that lamp is my FRIEND. EXCUSE ME!” Poorly worded, he would have possibly shouted other things—like denying his greediness and trying to clear his name—but precedence over the safety of one magical being came first.

“Karimah!” Saeven cried out, moving as fast as he could. Despite his long legs and strides, his body was not the most physically fit and he ran slower than most. His shoes did nothing to help as well. So it was only a matter of time until he began to hop on one foot attempting to remove his wooden sandal, then the other. He almost tripped over himself in doing so, but managed well enough to hold his balance to continue his now shoeless run after the thief. “Stop! Please! You have no idea what it is you’ve taken!”

It was clear to any of those watching that he was falling behind at an alarming pace, even he could see as much. So he acted without much thought. An uncharacteristic gust of wind almost seemed to be kicking up within the humid air of that summer day, blowing away hats and papers from the few early birds who had chanced upon the situation. From beneath the soles of his feet would be a building pressure and, in one infinitesimal second, the tall blonde was launched a few feet in the air into a forward dash. “So I would ask that you—"

Had it not been for the worry that his friend could be hurt then maybe his magic could have possibly been kept in check. But he had used too much wind in his attempt to gain ground and overdid the action, whizzing by the colorful woman all the while holding his shoes in one arm and attempting to keep the purple bandana firmly on his head. He came to a hopping stop a few yards before his target and quickly swiveled on his heel to run directly at her looking like the scared madman he probably was.

Having cut himself off, he repeated: “So I would ask you to give it back!”
